“"value for money"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

We have just returned from our SECOND visit to the BBC in two years. We had a lovely holiday, and found the staff to be generally polite and friendly. The food was better this year than last, and the location is beautiful, placed on a lovely beach. The entertainment was adequate, and in fact was basically the same as last year. There are parts of the hotel which are looking a bit tired, but there have been improvements in this area also.
We have been to much 'grander' hotels than this in the caribbean... but what people have to remember is the cost involved in going to Barbados. Its not a cheap getaway! There are other hotels,4/5 star, which people could stay at. However, they would be spending twice as much for their holiday!!! This hotel is a decent place to stay...and we would definately return in a few years time, and would also recommend friends & family to stay there.
The hotel has a very 'Bajan' feel, with character... but unfortunately places like this are few and far between now, as it seems that many smaller hotels are closing down and being replaced by over-priced luxury hotels, who charge rediculous prices and are generally over-rated.... because they think people will pay to go to this beautiful island. There are many beautiful places in the world, which are cheaper to visit than Barbados... thank goodness for the BBC and other cheaper hotels, that us normal hard working people can afford !!!!!
Thankyou for another luvely stay.... BBC.

Room Tip: we had room 509... lovely view ... no probs.

Just returned from 2 week stay and can say this wasn't the best hotel we have stayed in with it being more exhausted than tired. Decor and furniture is in desperate need of updating although kept very clean. Staff were lovely and friendly providing you take the time to talk to them and treat them with the respect they deserve. Sandra in the restaurant and concierge Juliet were lovely. Juliet was so helpful in arranging car hire and trips and made my birthday memorable. Sandra was always busy but cheerful. If you take the time to speak to the staff as people rather than just servants they respond in kind and are lovely. Bar staff were good too. Drinks were rather weak (unless you asked for extra spirit to be added), other than the rum punch which knocks your socks off!

Bedroom was cleaned every day and although the decor wasn't brilliant it was comfortable and more than adequate, but make sure you take your own kettle and tea/coffee making things as none are provided which is a small touch that would have compensated for lack of other amenities. We always had plenty of hot water but others told us they didn't. Clean towels were provided every day and the beds were changed frequently. Fridge had seen better days but was adequate.

Food was dire to say the least. Breakfast was about the only meal you could guarantee to be good, although having the same choice for 2 weeks did get very boring. Lunch was so-so, but the quality and choice was poor. Some of the evening meals were OK but on occasion was disgusting. By the second week when we knew what to expect, we avoided the nights when they served ox tail, chicken wings with more bone than meat, etc. Seems that they have one good night, one bad. Certainly not to the standard you would expect from a 3 star. Some nights we opted for our own cheese and biscuits or ate out.

Entertainment wasn't bad on occasion, but some nights had just a DJ playing rubbish music. Thankfully it always finished at 11.00 p.m. which was just as well as our room overlooked the pool area where the entertainment was held. Some nights it was so load we couldn't sleep until it was all over. Be warned if you have a room overlooking the pool that unless you are a night owl you won't sleep until after 11.00. and even then if folk were still at the bar drinking until late you could be disturbed by their antics. 2 cricket teams in residence whilst we were there and although they were boisterous on occasion, they were pretty much well behaved.

Beach was small but adequate but because the sea was so rough, it made swimming virtually impossible. I got bowled over by the waves as did many others so not safe for children but understand this was unusual weather conditions. Plenty of sun beds available in the garden area but unless you bagged the shade of a palm tree there was no other way of avoiding the hot sun as no umbrellas available except on the beach.

On the whole we had a good holiday, but this hotel has to come at the bottom of our list of previous all inclusive resorts we have stayed at. Food choices was poor, amenities not bad, locality was a bit off the beaten track but taxis plentiful if you wanted to go out. Bus stop a short walk away which for 2 dollars would allow you to travel the length of the island. Journeys anywhere is standard price one way regardless of whether you want to go on a long or short journey. For us though Barbados has got to be the worst island we have visited. Don't know what the celebs find so good about it. Dirty, poor (apart from the west coast rich havens) and infrastructure totally unbelievably bad. It has no charm, charisma or feel of a holiday island. Totally over rated and definitely we won't be returning. Only thing it has going for it is the hot weather and a few good beaches which although supposedly open to the public everywhere are difficult to access keeping them exclusive for the rich and famous.

Room Tip: Avoid overlooking the pool. Super deluxe only means you have a balcony and a window. Not worth the...

Why oh why after a fabulous cruise are Thomson sending their high paying customers to this hotel? What a let down, the whole place needs to be knocked down and rebuilt from scratch. The receptionist answered her phone 4 times whilst dealing with us, with no apology and was bemused by our confusion of the currency-very condescending. Some of the other staff were downright hostile, they are obviously unhappy to be there. The lukewarm food and entertainment were poor, the room was basic and shabby,no way is this a 3 star hotel. We stuck it for 3 nights and then after having to pay for an upgrade were transferred to another hotel which was absolute heaven by comparison. It made you realise just how awful the BBC is.Do not go to this hotel.

My husband and I spent 3days at this resort from March 11th to March 14th 2013. It was our first time at this resort as recommended by our daughter who had spent a few days there in 2010. The stay at this resort was indeed a memorable one and I must say the staff was extremely lovely and very helpful. As I am a vegetarian, they catered for all my needs and was always willing to go the extra mile. Our stay here was a good one and we will definitely be back soon.

We stayed for 11 nights from 26 Feb.

Everything was fine, not a luxury hotel, but very comfortable.

The room was large airy and clean. There was always something tasty to eat, even though not every dish would be to everyone's liking, however plenty of choice.

The a la carte restaurant was a little disappointing - OK food, but, not really worth the supplement.

All the staff were pleasant.

We have been to Barbados many times before and are already planning a return trip to the Barbados Beach Club.

Room Tip: I think the rooms on higher floors have the best views.

On arriving on the 3rd march 2013 we were shocked to see black mould all the way down the outside wall of the hotel . On entering we found the hotel reception nothing like the pictures on the thomson website. The receptionist sorted us out with room , safe and beach towel reciept after finishing her private phone conversation on her mobile . This hotel is not to thomson 3 star standards and i would not rate it more than 2 star . None of the pictures of the hotel and grounds match on the the thomson website . Its right that you do get what you pay for but for £3600 i thought we should of got more like good entertainment on the night not some self proclaimed DJ you could,nt even understand when he talked . The food was of 2 star rating awful at times. These comments are not directed at any of the dining or bar staff i found the breakfast supervisor very polite and helpful and was sure to give her a big tip on leaving. Basically the hotel was filthy and in need of a repaint etc . I would not go back if the holiday was for free , maybe if they put the true pictures of the hotel on the website i would not of gone in the first place.

Room Tip: if your thinking of going to this hotel ask thomson to update there pictures on there website first

This was a different experience for us as we usually go self catering and like to mix with the locals where possible. However the staff at the hotel were very accomodating and freindly and tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Our room was large and comfortable without being luxurious but then again as long as you have a comfortable bed to lay your weary head after a hard days relaxing what else do you really use the room for.
We found the food good especially the different types of fish but I was a litle dissapointed with the lobster tail when I indulged and had the surf and turf, however the steak was excellent. I think that the lobster tail was frozen hence the drop in quality. Sometimes the staff were a little slow in refilling the wine glasses or tea cups during meals but then again you are in a laid back country where rush isn't in the dictionary. The facilities at the water sports centre were excellent and we did indulge in the snorkeling although an hour isn't really long enough to get to the best bits. They do have 1 and a half hour fishing trips every day. weather permitting but I didn't see a lot caught most guests seemed very happy just having a boat trip along the coast viewing the celebrities mansions.
All in all we enjoyed the stay but there are placed just as nice nearer to home that we have yet to visit.
