The Cliff is a truly superb experience but it is not about the food, which btw is truly top quality but matched by The Tides. The Cliff is all about the ambiance of a truly remarkable setting and for entertaining the lady in your life in the best possible way. This is our experience (and hopefully helpful tips)....

We visited in early June and booked (by telephone only) from the UK in late April. The Cliff operates a first come first served booking system so the earlier you book the better your table is (i.e. the closer to the ocean you are). As the restaurant is predominantly (reverse) 'L' shaped then the bottom of the 'L' is where you want to be (a strip overlooking the sea) with the top of the 'L' being less desirable (still lovely but overlooking a small sandy beach). Twenty four hours before our reservation we received a confirmation email advising we were pick 3 and guaranteed the third best seat in the house (i.e. oceanside seating), which was a nice touch. Would definitely recommend an early booking to get a key position in the restaurant.

On the night we were collected by Shawn (our driver for the week) - superb chauffering service in an S Class Mercedes on shawnnurse1@yahoo.com - and dropped at the entrance to The Cliff where we were greeted and taken into the restaurant lobby. We arrived 45 minutes before our reservation slot to make sure we could have cocktails before dinner and this is another key tip. We were immediately shown to deep leather armchairs overlooking the ocean from the highest point of the restaurant and for anyone visiting for the first time such views will simply blow you away.

Following an excellent cocktail (when we truly relaxed at the sheer beauty of the experience) we were shown to an amazing table tight to the sea. This truly is oceanside dining overlooking the rays swimming in the bottom lit section of the water below.

The food was excellent but again, please, this is not about the best food you will ever eat because the standards are so high in Barbados anyway. The service was impeccable throughout and only surpassed by such a memorable setting, the latter being why it is one of the most sought after venues in the world.

While others have commented on the cost we spent around £250 all in ($375US, $750BDS) and with the menu being fixed price allow around this sum for food plus cocktails before and during dinner and you will know exactly what your budget needs to be. A nice touch to be noted is The Cliff DO NOT add a service charge, leaving gratuities to the discretion of the diner. We didn't find this in any of the other six or so restaurants visited on the West Coast.

If you have someone truly special in your life then you CANNOT miss a visit to The Cliff, as this night out is all about memories.

Book it and enjoy. You won't regret it......

We went to the Cliff twice when were in Barbados. The food was great both times. It's expensive but the service is excellent and the view is lovely. We both had a dessert called Melting Mercury which was sublime.

We have been coming to Barbados for the past 4 odd years but The Cliff had always been closed as we normally come in September . We came on a Saturday night and the restaurant was pretty full . The food was very good but no different to what we have experienced elsewhere on the island , Cin Cin Have a far better ambience with their customers & the food presentation & taste better then THE CLIFF.The actual restaurant is spectacular but I feel that the staff need to stop being so aloof & interact more with their clients . We spent nearly £ 400 On an evening for 2 people & were not even escorted to our cab or was there a member of staff to wish us a Good Evening on the way out. A let down on staff hospitality ..:: otherwise could have been a fantastic evening , need to step up .

My wife and I last ate here 11 yrs ago so it was interesting to return with our children to show them what we considered the premier eaterie on Barbados.
The place has been refurbished recently, maybe as a need through increased competition but it is looking good. Clearly a restaurant that looks better at night with the dramatic setting, flaming torches, lit up bay etc. we had a lovely table and the place was full. The menu? Probably similar in style to a few of the other restaurants around the West coast but executed superbly, with a few individual touches. Our most expensive meal of the week by a good few hundred BDS, the litmus test, would we return? Absolutely and hopefully not in 11yrs time but sooner!

The first time I went to The Cliff I was disappointed. The staff were unfriendly, we were supposed to have a waterside table but didn't and the food was too fussy. This time was the complete opposite. Genuinely some of the best food I have EVER tasted, everything was cooked to perfection. We had a waterside table (and did so on the second time we visited during our 10 night stay in Barbados) and the staff were friendly, fun and had personality!

I think Cin Cin has given The Cliff some competition which they needed as nowhere else in the area really challenged them, and in my opinion it really has made a dramatic difference to the restaurant.

My only advice: GO!!!
