This was our second visit to Lancaster Great House. It is such a unique and incredible experience, I really recommend it.

We went to their spectacular Sunday lunch. The venue is stunning. It’s an old plantation house with the most amazing gardens (with parrots) and house is sumptuously decorated.

The lunch is 5 courses: soup, fish, salads, mains and dessert and typically Bajan, so it’s a great opportunity to try a whole bunch of things all at once. All the dishes are really well made and flavoursome.

The staff are excellent, friendly and attentive.

It isn’t cheap, but it is absolutely worth it. A feast for the eyes and the stomach.

We first met John and Rain Chandler on a previous holiday when they were hosts of a Sunday lunch at Fisherpond House Plantation House in St. Thomas Parish.
The old House had been filled with many of John’s antiques collection, there was a relaxed atmosphere and excellent wideranging buffet.
We visited a few times and then heard that they had moved to Lancaster Great House in St. James Parish and opened it to the public in December 2014.
The historic Plantation House sits in 2 acres of land featuring mahogany trees, fruit trees and beautiful gardens.
On climbing the front steps we were greeted warmly by a John and firstly escorted into the dining room to view a magnificent floral display that he had designed.
He certainly would be a welcome addition to the Barbados Team who compete yearly at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show!
We were led through the House, filled with a John and Rain’s paintings and antiques, to the garden. where we were served cocktails and experienced the colonial charm of the property.
John was, as always, the perfect host ensuring that everyone benefitted from his extensive knowledge of Barbadian history and Raine supervised her cheerful, attentive team and ensured that the Planters Lunch Buffet was enjoyed by everyone.
Whilst we were absorbing the atmosphere we were entertained by a pianist whose repertoire was extensive and he complimented the experience beautifully.
We shall certainly return and perhaps be able to experience one of John’s dining experiences.
We can also recommend John’s Antiques and Cafe in Limegrove Lifestyle Centre in Holetown. Somewhere to visit and enjoy a superb lunch.

We were welcomed back as old friends and the eclectic mix of guests was as fascinating this time as last. Mr. Chandler is the consummate host and raconteur, adding that touch of whimsy to the lively conversations. By the end of the beautifully served and delicious meal, twenty strangers feel as if they have known each other for years. Having a fine meal in the midst of one of the finest preserved plantation houses on the island doesn't hurt at all. We look forward to trying the Planter's Buffet on Sunday next year.

We met the owner John Chandler in Holetown and after reading his entertaining book "Hotel Barbados" based on his previous hotel business, decided to dine at Lancaster Great House. This was a worthwhile experience with 18 guests around a grand Victorian table hosted by Mr Chandler. Superb food and service and thoroughly recommended.

We dined at Lancaster Great House after a recommendation from friends. It all looked so promising, fantastic house with oodles of history and an old fashioned charm about it. The food was plentiful with lots of choice and being a buffet meant you weren't restricted by choice or quantity.
Nothing was rushed, your table was yours for the afternoon.
So why the average review, maybe it was just me. My wife loved it but for me it just didn't equate to value for the money we paid, 165B$ plus drinks
