We were on a day excursion from our cruise ship and also asked a Taxi Driver for a ride to a beautiful, calm beach. This Taxi Driver was very friendly but she was in cahoots with the beach chair dude at Payne's Bay. So, we paid $20 US for a ride to the beach (2 of us), $20 US for two beach chairs and an umbrella, and $20 US for the taxi back to our port.
Here's the kicker! Where we were situated there was a huge coral/rock reef that we weren't aware of. Waves were crashing and we got drug over this rocky ledge before getting out to a small sandy area. One of the tourists got her leg cut pretty badly and my husband got slammed by some loose, large rocks.
Payne's Bay is very beautiful but you MUST beware of the gouging Taxi Driver's and the large rocks/coral.
