“Beautiful Small Beach”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

Small quiet beach good for swimming with hardly anyone else around. If you stay at Beach View apartments they provide you with all the beach furniture you need for free!

“Great Beach!!”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

We were here for one day....from a cruise ship. We walked to the Bus Terminal...a 5 minute walk from the cruise port. Runs every 10 minutes passing by Paynes Bay....and only $1.00 U.S. each!! We arrived at Paynes Bay in about 15 minutes. Immediately we are solicited for chairs and umbrellas ($10.00 for 2 chairs, 1 umbrella) and advised where the bar is. No problem...this is how they make their living. A simple No Thanks will do for what you do not want to purchase. We were going to swim out to see the turtles but there was a bit of a current and the swim back would have been to far....at least on this day. It is a wonderful safe beach with a small bar on site...made me a great drink and reasonable priced beer. We also walked down the street for a bit....very lovely and clean. We hailed down a private bus on the way back....runs in the same manner as the public bus..same price...but a wilder ride and also goes back to the bus terminal close to the cruise ship. Great way to see the island less formally.

If I go back to Barbados again I would go here again....it was beautiful!!

“Best west coast beach for snorkeling”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

Paynes bay has the best reefs for snorkeling on the island. You'll a TON of different fish and if your lucky and patient you'll even come across some turtles. Start at the The House and swim north. When I come here I am usually underwater the whole time. You won't get pestered by locals to pay them to see the turtles or jet ski etc.

“Sea Turtles Rock!”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

Paynes Bay Beach is a good place to see the sea turtles. Instead of taking an expensive snorkeling trip on a catamaran, we took a cab from the cruise ship pier to the beach. We paid $10 USD for two chairs and umbrella. The spot to see the turtles is marked by a flag. The swim is easy and is only about 100 yards off of the shore. When we got out to the flag there was a guy on a jet ski feeding the turtles. We and 3 other people swam with two turtles for about 45 minutes. We returned to shore, just in time to see three catamarans pull up and approximately 75 people pile out and surround those two poor turtles. The beach quit rocky. I would recommend wearing water shoes to get in and out of the water. If you go: go on your own and go early to avoid the catamarans.

“This is the place for purchasing fresh fish”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

AND a short swim off shore to see the turtles. The fish lady does a beautiful job cleaning and preparing fish. The prices are fair and you can get many varieties to take home (shhh - dont tell customs *s*)
