Visited Sandy Lane from 3/3-3/11- stayed at villa. Initially was upset because there was construction adjacent to villa- building a huge 26 room hoouse for one of the owners of Sandy Lane- and construction noise from 9am-6pm Monday thru Saturday. When I booked the private villa last August, management assured me that there would not be any disturbing noise but that was not the case. After 2 days, I met with the GM and the Resident Manager to express my displeasure with the noise and tell them that they should have been more forth coming about the noise when I booked initilly and that they need to confirm with people staying at the villa (or at the northern most rooms in the Dolphin wing that is also adjacent to the construction) that noise from 9-6 will not bother them.
The GM and Resident Manager apoligized profusely, stated that the construction was out of their control and offered to move us to Penthouse suites.
Since i was there with my 3 kids, their significant others plus 2 grandkids we wanted the villa experience and said we will deal with the noise. The management asked what could they do and i said i did not want discount or anything but just do a special dinner our last night.
The villa is extraordinary for families- 5 bedrooms, private pool and hot tub, beautiful dining room, living room, outdoor covered porch for breakfast, outdooor covered gazebo for dinners, and comes with private butler, chef for breakfast, chef for dinner if you want to have dinners at villa- which we did 3 times (dinner is extra cost) with terrific food.
The beach is 100 feet from the villa and, since the construction was going on, we left the villa about 9:30 am to head to the beach- chairs were set up for the 9 of us each morning in a U shape, service on the beach was extraordinary! We also used the spa- one of the best in the world; well appointed gym, and the 2 golf courses were on property- great views. The one course- Country Club- fees were included in villa rental, the other Green Monkey is extra- both excellent courses. My daughter's boyfriend played tennis 3 times with the pro and enjoyed a terrific workout.
The last night ( despite the construction we actually added an extra night because of the beauty of SL plus the great service) management set up a unique experience- we dined under a private tent on the beach- secluded from the other restaurants, they included a 2 piece duo for soft music, and cooked a private BBQ dinner for the family, and for the miscommunication on the noise the hotel paid for the dinner!
My wife and I travel extensively- we had just returned from 21 days in India and stayed at some of the finest hotels- the Oberoi hotels in India are among the world's best for comfort, service and beauty- and I can say that SL equals the BEST. The prior year we had also stayed in the villa on SL ( before adjacent construction)and wanted to return with the family to the villa. Since we knew the possibility of construction, that is why we asked on booking, booked when told it would not be an issue, and was upset when their was noise. I have to commend the management for addressing it with us and offering alternative accomodations and then providing the last night's dinner.
I would recommend the villa as long as you do not plan on sleeping past 9 am and plan to spend most of the day at either the pool or the beach. You will not beat the service or the comfort you receive at SL whether you are in the villa or in one of the rooms (we had previously been to SL and stayed in regular rooms). And one of the best features is that you never have to fight for beach chairs- when you arrive they show you your chairs on the beach the first morning and they are yours and set up each morning by 9 am.
Regarding restaurants on Barbados, Cin-Cin is new and outstanding- make sure you sit outside by the water. The Cliff is always good - book a table outside by the railing- great views. And both Dauphnes and the Tides are good and on the water/beach. All are within 5 min drive from SL and SL can generally get you reservations- book the reservations as soon as you book the rooms.
Our family had a terrific family vacation and plan on returning to SL!
