“Just the best -- going back next February and can't wait”
Reviewed July 30, 2011

I just wanted to write a short post in response to the gentleman who talked about his friends not being welcome at Sandy Lane.
I think that the exclusivity of the resort is alot of the charm. Indeed, if each of us we able to invite our friends onto the beach-loungers and the beach-bar, then the whole place would be chaotic!
People who don't stay at the hotel are curious, and I totally agree with the staff and management that the facilities at the hotel are for the guests only -- we do pay alot to stay there and if it were full of peoples friends then it really would not be Sandy Lane.
I think it is reasonable to say that are you aware it is going to be expensive before you go, and you should go knowing that.
Sandy Lane please stay as you are!
See you in February

I join with the entire team here at Sandy Lane to thank you for your kind review and for taking the time to post your comments.

We are especially pleased that you were impressed with our ‘beautiful’ hotel and highlighted the ‘amazing’ rooms and ‘spectacular’ views.

We are therefore disappointed that after such glowing remarks the food was not to your satisfaction. We have shared your comments with our culinary team and will continue in our efforts to achieve a consistently quality product. Lead by Executive Chef Jonathan Wright, our culinary team is planning many exciting additions to the cuisine here at Sandy Lane and we hope to welcome you back to experience this first hand.

First trip to Barbados to play golf and chill out and we were not (totally) disappointed. The whole Sandy Lane experience was amazing from the pick up to the drop off. The welcome, service, and food that we had were excellent, and it seemed that they had got all the little touches right from the courtesy of the shuttle bus team to our caddie (Jack) advising me on my backswing, his knowledge of the golf course, to the small pots of tasters on the beach bought round on hot afternoons. Swimming with the turtles provides a fabuloius memory as did watching the sun go down with a rum punch at the beachside bar.

However, at that price (and it was low season), you might expect some of those things, and although many of its guests are, we are not multi millionaires, so we found the prices of the bars and restaurants somewhat prohibitive, which meant that we were forced to eat out every night (no bad thing as some of the local restaurants are excellent).

What did peeve me though was that Sandy Lane would not allow any friends of ours (its customers) to use its facilities (beach chairs in our case), despite our offering to pay. This request got passed up through the ranks to the manager to make a decision and got rejected, which left me witth something of a sour taste. Similarly, this 'exclusivity' extended to lack of any reciprocal agreement with neighbouring golf courses, so that nice though the Country club was to play, it would have been nice for our friends to play there also, as well as us at their course (Westmoreland), but costs made this prohibitive also.

However (again) did we enjoy it? - Most certainly, and we'll be back in this lovely island and its extremely welcoming people (and I include all of the Sandy Lane staff) again before long.

Thank you on behalf of the entire Sandy Lane team for taking the time to post your comments and for your kind review.

It is to our great pleasure you stayed with us on your first visit to Barbados. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciate you highlighting our welcome, service and food, all of which you rated ‘excellent’. In particular, we are pleased the ‘little touches’ such as our friendly, knowledgeable caddies, the tasters on the beach and swimming with the turtles on our platinum coast, made your vacation a memorable one.

We are saddened that you reiterated your displeasure with our policy regarding non-resident use of our facilities. When you raised these issues whilst still at the resort, we felt assured that you were satisfied with our explanation of our policy, which is designed for the comfort of all our guests. We are pleased however that this did not hamper your overall experience.

We often refer to the warmth of Barbadian hospitality and we're delighted you were able to experience this first hand. The island of Barbados has much to offer and we you return to stay with us again soon.

If you have any photographs or videos from your stay that you think capture the essence of the resort, please do upload onto Tripadvisor and visit us on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube where you can share your Sandy Lane memories with other guests.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to post your comments.

We stayed at the Sandy Lane from the 14th to the 21st of May 2011 and what a fantastic time we had. This was our fourth trip to Barbados but this time we planned to get married while we were there so we treated ourselves to a stay at the Sandy Lane that we had always wanted to do but never had the occasion to really push the boat out. The wedding organiser, Cecily, was first class from the first moment that we contacted the hotel to arrange our wedding. We were put totally at ease regarding our special day and every assurance was given that it would be beautiful in every aspect, and it totally was!! The wedding was such an easy process stress free, very private and in the beautiful surroundings of the spa.
The food in the hotel was amazing, breakfast was buffet style everyday with everything that you could possibly want, the choice was almost unlimited. The quality was apparent in every meal and snack that we had. I do recommend the meal plan while you stay there, which enables you to pay a fixed price for one of your meals each day, it meant that dining in one of the fantastic restaurants at the hotel each night became very affordable.
The room that we stayed in was on of the Orchid rooms, it was very plush, well appointed and didn't have any of the tired elements that you usually get in any hotel. The TV was one of the biggest I've ever seen in a hotel room and the entertainment system and in room internet was very convenient for passing time whilst getting ready to go out. The balcony was very nice, large and private with comfortable furniture and a lovely view. As soon as we were shown to our room it was noted by Michelle, the receptionist, that we should have had a safety lattice along the balcony to stop our son being able to climb or get into any sticky situations, this was fitted almost immediately, very commendable!! I must also make special mention of the bathroom which was absolutely fantastic!!
The hotel is in a great location on the platinum coast. Holetown is within walking distance if you wanted to stroll along to the shops, though I wouldn't recommend it with a baby buggy as there aren't a lot of pavements. The shopping is good in Holetown there's a supermarket, chemist, a Cave Shepherd (department store) for souvenirs and various jewellers. Once the new mall is completed it will be even better with a lot of top end retailers already opening boutiques Cartier, Louis Vuitton etc. There are also a lot of excellent restaurants and bars near the hotel if you do fancy a change of scenery.
Overall our whole stay was fantastic from the first to last minute, the service at this hotel is second to none and you are made to feel perfectly at home for the duration of your stay. Our son, being a typical 18 month old toddler, was full of energy and explored the hotel as much as he could. At every turn he was welcomed by name by one of the many fantastic staff. The fact that he was expected and accepted as being a toddler full of fun and frolics made our stay even better as we were able to enjoy the whole experience rather than spend our time trying to get him to behave, we were constantly reminded that the Sandy Lane is a hotel for families and therefore enjoyed it as a family.

It is to our great pleasure you chose Sandy Lane as your wedding location and we are thrilled your special day was “beautiful in every aspect”. We are equally delighted you enjoyed your stay as a family and appreciate your praises of our restaurants and accommodations.

A mere five minutes away, the city of Holetown has much offer both by day and by night and we are always pleased when our guests seek to enjoy some of the shopping and culture Barbados has to offer.

Thank you for identifying the members of our team who paid particular attention to making your stay with us both enjoyable and memorable. We often refer to the warmth of Barbadian hospitality and we’re delighted you were able to experience this first hand.

Congratulations once again! We wish you much happiness together and hope to welcome you again soon.

This hotel lived up to its amazing reputation. Fantastic bedrooms, we had two adjoining as we have 3 small children. All the facilities, including the spa, kids club, gym, restaurants etc are just first class! The only complaint we had is that the food can be very very slow particularly at lunchtime. And on a Sunday the hotel is famous for its Sunday lunch, which actually means you get lots of visitors to the hotel from outside - making the service incredibly slow. It is however, overall complete and utter paradise!

The entire Sandy Lane team and I thank you for your kind review and for taking the time to post your comments.

We are delighted our elegantly appointed rooms were to your pleasure and we are pleased you took full advance of the many “first class” services available at our resort, including The Spa, Treehouse Club, fitness centre and restaurants.

Thank you for highlighting our Sunday Brunch which is indeed very popular in Barbados with guests, non-resident visitors and locals alike. We are therefore disappointed to learn our service was not to your satisfaction and we will continue in our efforts to achieve consistent excellence.

We hope to welcome you back to our “paradise” again soon.

Having been to the SL every year for the last 10 its clear we like the place,no., we love the place. The friendly beaming staff for whom nothing is too much trouble the sheer splendour of the surroundings the beach the warm sea - what a pleasure it is to swim lazily out to the platform and look back at the Sandy Lane scene, contemplating as I do every year how lucky we are to be here. Then there is the pool area by the spa-its beautiful- the perfect little lunches taken outside -the grilled fish , the gazpacho
with a little fresh crab served by the smiley staff.
Then of course there is the country club by the golf course where I always have the tempura prawns with dip and salad whilst gazing over the greens
and the toiling golfers with the sea in the distance-the country club is simply a magnificent concept and provided a wonderful lunch setting for non golfers like us-we never miss it .
Staff who change around always fit the place.
Then there is the acajou bar and restaurant a divine night time place with
its cosy bar , excellent staff and pretty good food - Dean in our opinion was the best cook but the current one is a close second or how about the bajan blue with its fantastical buffets from around the world - we dont like the buffet concept in principle- but the buffets here could make us change our minds - the oriental one was out of this world in terms of taste and choice.
It reverted to a la carte during our stay the food was very good but once again the portions were rather large - but of course many like this.
So nice to dine outside here on those warm sensual evenings.
Finally there are the rooms , the dolphin suite is almost the last word-we did once have the penthouse for a few days maybe that was the best-but after a day of" barbadossing" as a famed ex habitiuee calls it its good to come back to with its separate sitting room and 2 balconies.
Did I mention breakfast?Fit for oligarchs and kings-one wants for nothing.
Finally a word for the Monkey Bar where in the evening one can become tired and emotional as private eye might say.
Of course all this is spun together by the fine staff and management who I know work unrelentingly to keep up the standards we take for granted -it dont come easy-Robert , Alpha , Paul to name but a few and their staff dont let them down so many of whom have been there since we started coming ..
