Description: The stunning open-air beachfront setting of our chic fine dining restaurant is magical. The romantic L'Acajou specialises in light cuisine paired with an impressive range of Old and New World wines. Dining in Barbados under a canopy of mahogany trees with the gentle sounds of the ocean is a very special experience.

Over the last 10 years I have eaten in this restaurant many times, and always found it to be good rather than great. However on this trip the food was excellent, so much so that I ate there twice. The staff remain excellent as they always were anyway. I hope that this standard keeps up for years to come! Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Getting into the Sandy Lane seems to be half the battle - over the top security at the gate and beach side bar seem excessive for a half empty hotel ... They seem to be living on their reputation which will not last without change.

Whilst it is obviously some people's cup of tea (the over 50's) then you are welcome to it. However, the whole ambience was very dated and rather stuffy. The hotel feels slightly stuck in a timewarp somewhere around 1985 ... and could do with a refresh.

The dining room was fine but not close the wow of the Cliffe/Lonestar. We were told that they were fully booked at 8pm so needed to come at 7pm and we then proceeded to sit in a restaurant with over 10 empty tables until we left at 9pm.

To be fair the food was good and the service was excellent but the food and setting simply just does not match up to The Cliffe and furthermore it is more expensive.

I think a world class hotel like the Sandy Lane should be offering more in terms of a dining experience to its customers, resident or otherwise.

From the moment we arrived the staff and service were excellent. The food was fantastic and the numerous waiters/waitresses could not have been more friendly.
We had the tasting menu which was fantastic. We then decided to have coffee downstairs on the main hotel terrace which had a live band. Very easy, not fussy and seamless transfer with drinks, which some hotels/restaurants would do with difficulty.
Expensive evening but well worth every penny - fantastic.

We decided to include our then 10 yearold daughter in our plans to dine at L'Acajou, when we first arrived we thought we might have made a mistake but the staff quickly made her feel very special. The table was beautifully set up for 3 and it made the experience with our daughter all that more special. The menu was divided into 2, a set menu and a la carte, the kitchen went out of there way to accomodate our daughters needs. Both my wife and I have decided we'll do the exact same thing next time, but we'll also escape another night for a dinner for 2.
