“Old School Ambience-good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2012

I had read about this property for eons, so we gave it a try for dinner.
The hotel is lovely and the bar area, very pretty.
When you order a drink, we provide a plate of home-made cheese shortbread, chips and nuts-very nice.
Their menu is solid, but needs a revamp.
Although my filet mignon was delicious, the setting was odd.
This is a 5*, very expensive hotel, and yet some young female diners were in short shorts at 9 p.m. Come on Dad, get those daughters to learn some social skills.
I was excited to see the small band and singer, but 1960's elevator music did not excite us.Come on, this is Barbados!
Coral Reef is a known for its excellence, but has anyone been there recently?
It is important to provide
quality, in a current and vibrant atmosphere.
Can an enthusiastic member of the O'Hara team give this place back its sparkle?

“You will enjoy this restaurant if you are over 60”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

We decided to eat here because the advertising was good. The menu was a throwback to the 70s although it was perfectly cooked.the setting is beachside but a wall prevents you from seeing the sea. The entertainment was an excellent piano player but then the main act started to play in a mini bandstand. I think they were called Cyril and the cyclones. Waistcoats, high held guitars and marimba rhythms. some people were dancing. This hotel caters well to it's mature clientele.

“Thursdays BBQ evening a sure winner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2012

We visited the Coral Reef Club restaurant recently for their Thursday evening BBQ. Huge selection and variety of starters, mains and deserts are available. The food was cooked to perfection (you even get to see them cooked the meats/ fish you choose on the BBQ). Couldn't fault the high level of service- offered us a recommendation for wine. A guy was playing the steel drums during our meal which set a lovely relaxing ambience. Around 9.30pm a fire eater and dancers gave us a performance which rounded off the evening. I understand why people may think this is expensive (this was roughly £50 per head) but then you have to remember the copious amounts of beautiful delectable food on offer, the alcohol, the entertainers, the seafront setting and that you're in Barbados! So yes this is not the ideal if you're looking for a cheap meal out but if you're looking for a good value meal out then you should definitely consider it.

“Delightful evening in pretty setting.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2012

We had a delicious dinner at The Coral Reef Club, with friends, who were actually staying there. Very attractive dining room, with a great deal of ambience. The menu was interesting and varied and the service was excellent. We enjoyed our meal very much and were quite envious of our friends who were on half-board with exactly the same a la carte menu! The only criticism was the "singing", to use the word in it's loosest sense, of a female cabaret-type artist. We all could have done without that! We would definitely return.

“Food mediocre - Service condescending”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2012

Meal for two during recent holiday in Barbados where the initial impressions were very favourable. The welcome in the lounge for pre dinner drinks was warm and the drinks served very promptly but we were not offered a menu until requested twice.

The menu itself was ordinary, and the food when it arrived proved the point. Three requests were made for a Wine List, and the level and attitude of the Restaurant Staff appeared to indicate that it was all too much trouble.

This may appear to be harsh criticism, but while settling the final bill it came to light that the CRC catered for a large number of Half Board guests with Dinner Bed and Breakfast. This is obviously not the way to a fine dining experience, which is what should have been provided for the charges levied. I complained at the Reception Desk on the way out and waited 5 minutes for an explanation from the Reception Manager, with no result or even a return to Reception.

Not wishing to further compromise what was already a less than pleasant evening, we left, never to return.

Such a shame, as my Wife had that afternoon experienced a superb facial and relaxation treatment at the Spa.
