Caribbean Cruise Feb 11th-25 2012 aboard P & O Ventura

19 deck, Ventura Cruise Ship is like a fantastic floating five star village.
The standard of service they provide comes with a typical British; “service with smile” The staffs are courteous, and ever ready to help.
The food quality is high, so is the choice of dishes, there are so many to choose from.
They extend their courtesy by serving breakfast in room, to those who want, all you have to do, just fill in the breakfast form, by ticking boxes of items you want, you can also write the name of stuff you want to have in breakfast; that is not mentioned on the form.

Catalina Beach in Dominican Republic
Awesome place to be, we were taken there by tender boat, 3 cheers for Ventura crews, who entertained nearly 2000 passengers, by providing them deck chairs, towels, and what more, a delicious Barbeque. It was a mammoth task that was executed so professionally. Kudos to Ventura crews

Curacao
Lovely Island, lovely people. After a sight seeing trip in a funky bus, we were dropped off to a beautiful resort by the beach, by some special arrangement between Ventura and this local resort, where you can use their deckchairs free of charge.
The guide told us Curacao is going to be the first place in the whole world, for Holiday In Space” by the Virgin company belonged to Mr Branson of Britain he is setting up a hub for a journey in to the space.
A holiday in to space!! Wow, that must be very exciting, yet shockingly expensive.

Aruba,
It’s a semi desert island, nothing grows here. We went on a day trip, going around the island visiting Baby Bridge that is 100% formed by corals, dead corals, and a church in the middle of no where, I liked the rock formation at Kasibari.
I personally would give this day trip a miss, and rather go to DePalm beach, rated as one of the best beaches in the world.
One thing to remember, while in Aruba, please buy, sun caps, hats holdall bags, etc here in Aruba as you will find the prices lower, compared to other islands as the journey progresses.

Tortola, pronounced Taartola by the locals.
Beautiful Island with lovely beach, I will say this one is an underdeveloped beach, with slightly less professional approach by the people who run their businesses.
But I loved it as it is. I would say please keep it as it is.

Grenada
What a lovely island, a heaven for herbs and spice lovers like me, they grow the most Nutmegs here in Grenada, not to mention, the aromatic bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves, cocoa for chocolate, fresh turmeric.
A quick visit to herbs and spice shop is a must.

St Marten.
A 5 star Island, with a 7 star beach, very posh place to be. We enjoyed the time on the beach, duty free / tax free shopping heaven but every thing is pricy.

St Kits
Lovely Island, gifted by the nature with beautiful flora fauna, a visit to botanical garden is a must, was it a dull day or volcanic dark sands on the beach that put me off? ,

St Lucia
Another wonderful Caribbean island, so lush green, with full of banana, and sugarcane plantations. The beach is nice.

Barbados
The best out of all above, my myth about Barbados was shattered, as I believed, this place may turn out to be like Jamaica, where people are scared to wonder around freely. My word, how wrong I was, Barbados is the place where locals wear smart dresses, well groomed, very low abiding and do care about the environment, the beach here is the most fabulous, safe and clean, my only regret, I did not have enough time, as we spent most of our time in the morning on a sight seeing trip, that was awesome too. We returned with a self promise to come back to Barbados with plenty of time at hand and enjoy it fully.

Useful Tips,
1, Booking excursions on board cruise liner can be twice as expensive, where as fares on the taxi stands, at the cruise terminal are lot cheaper.
Taxis service operators here on almost all islands have set fares, for example, certain package with $20 while others $25, or even $40 per person depending on how far you want to go and what you want to see.
The fares hardly change. One good thing about this service is that you can mix and match it to suite you, like you can do 2-3 hours sight seeing trip and then get dropped off by the beach, the driver will come back to pick you up on an agreed time.

2, Avoid getting caught in a duty free/ tax free shopping trap, they are not cheap, you will find perfumes, watches and spirits are lot cheaper on board Ventura.

3, Buy sun caps, hats, holdalls, and other stuff while in Aruba, because its lot cheaper.

4, Wait for the last 3-4 days towards the end of the journey, when the sales take place on board cruise ship.

5, You can save dosh by using “do it your self laundry” there are laundries on almost every deck, take your own soap, pressing irons are there too.
Opening time is 0800 in morning but I found them open @ 07:30, you can beat the rush by being there at either this early, or late in evening @ 1800pm

6, Choose deck 11-12 and above if you are a fussy sleeper who hates noise. / Engine noise, It is lot quieter as you go higher up.

7, Watch out when using internet service, it starts with 50p a minute, but the worse thing with this, it says “there was a technical hitch” after sending email every time, you end up resending it. Sending message twice means you going to pay twice. I found it totally fishy.

Thank you all.
