My fiancé and I had dinner here while visiting Barbados. I loved the ambiance and the food was great. I did think it was overpriced for what was offered but we enjoyed the meal. It also took quite a long time for the meal to be served and considering the restaurant was empty that was unexplainable.

Just got back from barbados on vacation with friends. We decided to go to brown sugar to have a nice local bajan meal. The restaurant is very nice and the staff are very friendly but the food is way overpriced and totally not worth the money. The desserts were awful! Tasted like last weeks left over cake and some awful jello...reminded me of nursing home dessert! If you are going to charge the amount you charge at least have some nice desserts. The food was.good but how much of the rich food can you eat? It wasnt like they had shrimp or anything like that. Our waitress asked us what we would like to drink we all had coconut water. When the bill came we were charged 8 bucks each for the coconut water! It was not included in the buffet price!!!!! Ridiculous! Not like we had cocktails or anything like that! And she kept refilling our drinks not knowing there was no free refills! So our bill was adding up! If you go pay attention to your bill!

We visited during the last week of August, made reservations by phone a month ahead of time, and was really looking forward to it after all the reviews! Unfortunately service was so poor that we had a miserable time.
We had made reservations since there was 15 of us, and our table was ready when we got there. But that's where it started going downhill. It took 15 minutes for us to get our drink orders in. Another 25 minutes before we got them! We didn't get our appetizers for more then two hours from the time we sat down! No apologies made or anybody coming to let us know that the food was coming. Any time we inquired about it, they said there was another large party before us and they were holding up everybody's meal, no apologies given and they were unprofessional about it. They seemed annoyed that we were even asking! I understand "island time" and we accounted for that when making reservations, but that was ridiculous! We had 8 cranky kids to deal with by the time the food was served. One child even took a nap, woke up, and the food still wasn't served. The funny thing is this, we learned the other large group (of 21) also stayed at our hotel, and coincidentally ate at the same restaurant as us 2 other nights and we never had the same problem as we did at Brown Sugar.
If they're going to take that many reservations, then they should be prepared for it!
The food was good, not spectacular, but the unfortunately the experience ruined it for us.

In November, 2013 we ( a party of 4) visited the restaurant. Lovely garden setting. It was a hot night, and they seated us near the fan/air coolers (which we recommend). Service was great and very friendly. Food was excellent- large portions, and very tasty. We would highly recommend this restaurant ( and would certainly return on our next visit).
