If you love rum...you MUST include this on your trip. After all, Mt. Gay is the "rum that invented rum." The tour is nice (but you will not see the actual distillation; that is at another facility). Buffet lunch and rum tasting are both enjoyable.

Even though I rarely drink rum and then, only Malibu rum, my husband and friends really enjoyed the factory tour. It was interesting to see how the rum is made and all the flavours available at the store.
The best part is the beach. You have to pay for the chairs, which is common throughout the islands but the water is calm, sandy and close to the factory...very warm. It is the spot that the wintering race horses are exercised in the water. That was very cool to see.
We have been back a few times just to take in the beach and have lunch there. We plan on returning in 2014.

We went on our own and did the factory tour. On the tour you don't get to see much into the production since most of the actually rum production is done elsewhere on the island but you can see them bottling the rum, watch a video on the haute it which was interesting then sample some rum. There is a gift store there And they sell the rum for cheaper than duty free it was a fun hour.

We had fun, learned a lot and of course the rum tasting was great. So glad we had the buffet lunch as it was needed after the rum punch when we arrived which were followed by the rum tasting.

The Mount Gay Rum tour is a great way to find out about the history of Rum and how it was first produced in Barbardos - hence the slogan "The Rum that Invented Rum". The tour gives an overview of the 300 year heritage of this Rum. Our Tour Guide Rumal was excellent - he was very informative and gave you the information you needed. After the tour there is a tasting where you get to taste three of the rums - to be honest - you would not want to taste any more as you would need to be carried out of there if you did! We were then shown the bottling of the rum - Mount Gay is only bottled in Barbardos and by machine they bottle 10,000 bottles a day.

After the tour you are then led the bar where the barman makes you all a delicious shot of a rum drink - I won't say what is in it - it tasted gorgeous! There are also samples of rum cake to taste as well, which is also delicious. You can the stay in the bar or have a look round the shop which obviously has the best prices for Mount Gay Rum should you decide to buy any.

If you have the Island Inclusive Vouchers - you can spend these in the visitor centre which is great.

I expect most people would get a taxi here or it would be part of a tour. We drove here which was fine as I was happy not to take part in the main tasting, although the only thing is unfortunately there are no signposts and it is very easy to miss where this is. We drove past it four times before we found it!
