well organised tour with tastings of several rums of varying ages, excellent film of Mt Gay and its history. You can pay a fee which includes a glass of very nice rum punch and ends with a meal, well worth it and very relaxing.

“I'm a hug Mount Gay fan...”

The tour is well worth the hour or so, and its just North of Bridgetown on the main road. There is a decent gift shop and a tasting event at the end. Don't bother trying to buy a Mount Gay cap, the aren't sold anywhere. The only way to get one is to sail in a Mount Gay race.

You really shouldn't leave the island without learning a bit about Barbados' pride and joy. The distillery is easy enough to get to and fairly inexpensive (maybe around $10 Bajan dollars, I can't quite remember). The actual tour of the refinery is fairly short, but there is a great taste test session afterwards where you sample two or three different kinds of rum. You can also purchase full cocktails made from Mount Gay. The souvenir shop is nice and has a lot of good items for purchase, rather than a wide range of useless stuff. I would recommend this attraction as it really is something you have to do if you visit this beautiful island.

“Definitely a "must visit" for rum lovers!”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

As owners of a liquor and wine store, we felt we had to visit Mount Gay Rum Refinery on our first trip to Barbados. We loved the gift shop and brought shirts home to wear in our store, where we sell Mount Gay (one of my husbands favorites). The tour was informative, but it's very small and we expected a much larger scale production. We had our kids with us and they liked smelling the oak barrels and walking through the tour. They show a little movie in a small theater and that part most of us could have done without. You can also sample some types of rum. There is also a small bar where you can have drinks before your tour, while you wait. Everyone was very friendly and we actually ended up meeting people from our small town in upstate New York!!! All in all, a good time, not very pricey and definitely worth stopping. (We actually visited in Jan '11, but TA doesn't have that as a selection.
