Told it is the oldest continuous congregation in all of the Americas. Actually the adjacent museum is the living history of the Synagogue and its congregation. Barbados should be congratulated for holding onto this piece of Jewish history given the small number of Jewish citizens over the years. Don't miss the Mikvah-still is fed by the original spring.

called ahead and made sure museum was open....we were the only visitors during our stay...the museum is loaded with interesting historical information about the diaspora and how Jews first came to the Caribbean and specifically Barbados...excellent timeline information provided and some interesting artifacts....then the guide took us to the synagogue (separate building) and showed us around...the current building is from the 1800's as the original 1600's building burnt down...then he took us to see the mikvah (old bath) which was recently excavated - you see all the original stonework from the 1600's and there's still an active spring feeding water- amazing sight...we were really glad we stopped by...just a couple of blocks from Broad St with all the main shopping....

Beautiful piece of history. Make sure you also go in to the museum, which is in the same lot (if it's open). Take a walk through the grave yard and look at the head stones which date back to the 1700s.

a very small building, no tour guide, only a cleaning lady present. The museum was closed, an expensive taxi ride to get there. We were highly disappointed
