Race day at the Garrison was a great laugh with lots of fun. It's a casual affair which involves local foods and beverages on sale.

Barbados Garrison Tour run by James and Peter from the Barbados Garrison Historical Consortium was an excellent tour of Barbados' old bulldings you would otherwise miss and its early military past and how it formed George Washington for the independence of the US. Not just for army buffs but for anyone looking to get some new insights into Barbados past. Starts with a short film about his time here then followed by a short tour of where he stayed then on to the remains of Charles Fort and then uniquely to the St Ann's Fort which is currently in use by the Barbados Army. A drink in the officers mess was a nice touch followed by a visit to the Armoury and the changing of the sentries. Excellent insights to how Bridgetown used to be one of the busiest harbours in the world and Bridgetown a vastly wealthy and cosmopolitan city. Well worth the trip. Cruise passengers were brought from the terminal but you could join independently or be picked up from your hotel. They are doing it to try and restore more of Bridgetown's lovely old buildings which they showed us and which you might have otherwise driven by not knowing they were over 200 years old. Not for profit so worth supporting! Cost was about B$89 each. Rather reasonable.

I confess I did nothing related to seeing horse racing here. The highlight for me is that this is an excellent place to go for a walk in the early morning. Do the full distance, a few times and pass by and hear the discussion about the most critical matters of the day in Barbados. If you stay at the Hilton, the Savannah, or Marriot Courtyard, you can walk to the Garrison and do the walk.

Outside of the exercise go there in the day and look at some of the most beautiful bits of historic buildings. Barbados in general has done a good job of preserving their historic buildings.
