We had lunch at the 39 steps. Good choice of food on the menu. We both had the blackened shrimp with salad and rice. The shrimp was very well cooked and we really enjoyed it. Whilst it does not have the dramatic views of some of the other Barbados restaurants we went to it provides high quality food at reasonable prices. Locals also ate here so that must be a good sign.

The food was good and the portions are huge. I had the meat lasagna that could have easily fed two people. The staff was friendly and it is located near several hotels and beaches (we stayed at the Radisson Aquatica and it was about a 10 minute walk there).

39 steps was a good spot. Service and food was typical and average. We didn't get the sense for anything memorable during the dinner.

This is an institution and there's a reason why its been around for so long, the service is excellent and the food outstanding. Its frequented by locals and regular visitors to the island.
Its secret is its unpretentiousness and simple food done consistently well. From the local blackened fish, crab backs to their signature steak and kidney pie, lasagne and pastas, pizza for the kids, there is something for all tastes.
Not forgetting its its a wine bar with a decent selection by glass and you hear beans grinding for that espresso for the road.

We ate here on our first night so we hate slight jet lag BUT I do remember the food was amazing and staff friendly and attentive! I had the sea food pasta and it was really tasty ($58BD). Quite pricy but a nice setting on the terrace for a romantic meal.
