“A Perfect Vacation!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2014

We stayed at the Reefs for 10 days and didn't want to leave. The propery is amazing and the rooms (we stayed in the Cliffside Rooms) had a great view. The only sound at night was the ocean. The food in the restaurants was also very good. Of special note was the staff. They were outstanding. They went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel special. I am now Facebook friends with one of the chefs and one of the waitresses. We can't wait to go back. Side note is that the bus to Hamilton or DockYards is right outside the property so you should buy a bus/ferry pass and save on cab fare.

Room Tip: I recommend the cliffside rooms as they have a great view and are very quiet.

The Reefs in Bermuda is amazing! From the rum swizzle punch upon arrival to the kind goodbyes from the Bellman, this is a place that makes you feel at home. It is quaint, charming and private. You don't feel overwhelmed with such a massive property that you can't get to the main part of the hotel without asking for a ride! The private beach and sand-side service means all you have to worry about is keeping on your sunscreen. Kayaks, snorkeling equipment and paddle-boards are all available at no additional cost. Coconuts offers dining beach side and you can even dine on the beach during the evening (if you request ahead of time). One thing to be aware of is that if you want to travel around the island, the distance to Hamilton or to the Dockyard (for example) is quite far and cab rides are costly.

The Reefs is really a special place. Perched on a cliff above the beautiful blue ocean with friendly and efficient staff, and a really nice beach. The Cliffside Rooms are not large, but a very nice, with a terrific view, lanai, two sink bathroom and walk-in shower. We liked our second floor unit toward the end of the cliff away from the main building. Ocean Echo breakfasts were excellent with an omelet maker and nice selection of fruit (the creamy bananas were terrific!) as well as smoked salmon, etc. Dinner at Ocean Echo was more informal than expected, with a solid, but routine menu. Nice shrimp tempura. Great view though. Nice bar, and really nice bartenders, like Mike. A couple of "event" themed nights with Calypso music one night, and a Mojito night on the terrace. Coconuts on the beach is an excellent place for lunch. A real on the ocean venue with good food. Loved the chicken wings, and their Bermuda chowder was one of the best we had. Excellent snorkeling among the rock outcrops. Very swimmable beach; crystal clear water. Good beach services. The one caveat to those who have some disability concerns is that there are no elevators between levels. The main building is at the top; there are some units close by that would be more amenable to those who cannot walk grades and steps. We loved the place, and will definitely return! Great place for a small board meeting.

Room Tip: see above tips on those who cannot handle grades and steps. Liked the rooms on the cliff away from...

We were at the Reefs for a weekend getaway in late March. It felt like we had been away for a week! Our room was perfect, especially waking up to the sound of the waves and seeing the beach from our bed. The meals and afternoon tea were all great and we left on Sunday thinking about when we could come back. Our only complaint was the front desk. In addition to arriving home and our bill being incorrect, we were counting on Sunday brunch but we were not told to make reservations upon arrival. reservations were not available on Saturday, leaving us with no dining option in our hotel on the day of our departure. A simple recommendation when we checked in would have helped. Otherwise a fabulous getaway!

The Reefs has amazing views. The property is clean and the staff friendly. We stayed in room 338 cliffside suite. The bathroom was new with great toiletries but the room itself could use an updating. Furniture is dated and not very comfortable. Our room had a breathtaking view high on the cliff right above the water. The room offered 2 patios , one with 2 chairs and small table, chaise lounge and the other side patio had a hot tub. The location is great and easy to get to other places on the island with bus service right across the street. Breakfast, that was included was wonderful-fresh fruit, omletes and waffles made to order-toast, cereal, hot items (bacon, potatoes, sausage ) tea and coffee and juices. The service in the main restaurant was excellent. The beach is beautiful clean and has towel/umbrella service . We enjoyed our stay.

I recently took my family on vacation to Bermuda for the first time. We chose The Reefs based off of all the reviews we had read. The location is excellent, the views amazing and the room was nice. We really enjoyed the beach at the property as well. One really nice touch is the afternoon tea at 4pm each day. The location has all US TV channels, WiFi, a Spa and tennis courts.

There are a few things that were disappointing. First, the front desk team is not as knowledgeable and helpful as one would expect. At check-in the details of the property and what we paid for wasn't fully explained by Rachel (trainee?) and we had questions throughout the week that could have been answered ahead of time. I expected them to offer suggestions for attractions, transportation, etc. They were not aware of a local attraction being closed for repairs (Gibbs Lighthouse)-we found out after walking to the attraction only to be disappointed. They messed up a dinner reservation for us by booking us for two instead of three as well. Finally, at check-out my wife spent 45 minutes going through the bill because of inaccuracies. The biggest disappointment was that my daughter could not do the horseback riding due to her age even though when we made the reservations we were told that she definitely could. Needless to say she was very disappointed and the front desk didn't seem concerned at all.

We purchased the meal plan for breakfast and dinner as well. This got very old after four days. The breakfast was ok but the two restaurants on the property for dinner had the same menu every night. I don't expect it to change nightly but would think at a resort that it would change every couple of days. Also, the preparation of the food and the service each night was very inconsistent which made for some disappointment.

A couple of other things of note, the hot tub was only a warm tub. The property does not have a location to buy snacks and offers no room service options.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay but it could have been so much better. We will definitely return to Bermuda as the island and it's people are awesome but will probably look for another property to stay at.

Room Tip: All rooms have a great view of the ocean. I would suggest getting a suite as we got a king with a p...

Dear Anthony M,

Thank you very much for your recent review of The Reefs and we really appreciate you staying with us. I am very glad to hear that overall that you had a good time with us but am sorry that a few things detracted from your stay.

I have passed along your observations of our front desk to our respective supervisors. We do have a few new staff on the desk and some of them are still getting up to speed on some of the specifics of the property and the neighboring attractions. But we will ensure that we are communicating more information up front upon arrival to avoid any confusion during your stay so I do apologize for this inconvenience.

I also have passed along your commments of of our restaurant options and menu choices to our culinary team. We have a new head chef who just started a week or so ago and further enhancing the menu and standards of the restaurants is a primary focus of his at the moment. We have already seen some great changes and they will continue to improve in the days ahead as he gets his feet more wet, so I appreciate your feedback and observation.

Once again, I am very sorry that we did not fully meet all of your expectations and greatly appreciate the feedback to ensure we continue to improve our guest experience at The Reefs. We sincerely hope to have the opportunity down the road to welcome you back to The Reefs and am confident we will meet and exceed all your vacation expectations.

I would be happy to discuss your feedback personally if you would like to reach out to me at the resort.

Sincerely,
David Dodwell Jr

We just returned from a 6 night stay at the Reefs where we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. There are so many things to like about this resort.
First and foremost we felt the staff was extremely friendly and very helpful any time we needed anything.
The resort's location is stunning- on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic clear blue/green water. The resort has beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel equipment, kayaks, stand up paddle boards and bar/food service.
We treated ourselves to probably the most expensive room on the property. We had the cliffside room 340 with private hot tub and balcony. (The only negatives about the room: the area carpet in front of the couch was tired looking and the one balcony door from the bathroom would not open due to salt air corrosion-we just used the door from the living area.)
Breakfast and afternoon tea were included in our plan. The service was great and the food very good. Omelettes, eggs any style, and waffles were made to order. There was plenty of fresh fruit and buffet options. We had dinner one night (Easter night) at the Ocean Echo and it was good.
The next thing that is outstanding about the Reefs is the spa. Very relaxing and again the service was excellent.
My husband and I would definitely stay here again. We walked every morning to nearby beaches, used the bus and taxis to go to other areas of the island. The bus stop is right at the resort along with scooter rentals.
Very convenient resort with everything you need in a peaceful location.
