“an amazing view”
Reviewed March 28, 2014

Stayed for 5 days. It's a beautifully located place. Excellent views. Arrang9e for a CEO collective transfer from airport through the Pompano Beach club website, at $15 it's probably the only island bargain. The hotel staff are very helpful, eager to please. As you've read , they will drive you to the bus stop, pick you up from a closeby ferry. There are several jaccuzis , some of them hot. The food onsite at the restaurants is expensive, not a 5 necessarily warranting the price, but your choice is limited. There is a coffee machine and a small fridge in your room. If the weather is agreeable your stay will be amazing !!

From March 11-19, 2014 we relaxed at Pompano. This is close to the end of the off season so the prices were great & every 4th night was free (not including taxes & such). Bermuda was not crowded, transportation was easy, & the temperatures were very comfortable. Ocean water was cold, but with wet suits you can stay out a long time.
Pros:
-The staff is amazing from the time we booked, to the front desk, to restaurant workers, to housekeeping & management, every one was friendly & helpful & very patient with our questions.
We felt welcome & at home the whole time.

-The location is beautiful. Restaurants with lovely views of the ocean & their beach. The ocean view from our room (#83) was tranquil. We watched long tail birds fly over the water.

-The manager, Tim, gave us another room after being shown a room with an adjoining door to the next door room. He moved our bags & put us in the room up a floor with out the adjoining door. Much nicer & quieter, so would recommend requesting this when booking if you like.

-All the tipping was included in our price, so we never tipped at the hotel all week. So nice.

-Lots of wood hangers & a good size closet in room 83.

-the balcony feels private with high walls on either side. Two loungers & two chairs & a little table furnished the space outside.

-All of the restaurants were clean, nicely decorated & had wonderful food brought by a good wait staff. We chose a breakfast & dinner inclusive plan & were not disappointed. They have a lot of silverware on the table which was fun, so brush up on your skills. :)

-There was always someone at the hotel available to drive you (no fee or tip) to the end of the long hotel entrance, the laundry room, the mini mart & the closest bus stop. We never had to wait long.

-A large bathroom with a big tub, a dimmer light, ceiling fan, good water pressure, bathrobes

-Their beach was great with a long shallow walk out area with soft sand. There's a large sandy area without rocks or sticks or planted sea weed. There was however a lot of loose sea weed the washed up on shore. They did run their tractor to clear it daily, but it was a bad season for sea weed. We had the beach to ourselves many times. There are plenty of chairs & loungers.

-There are many nooks & crannies to sit with an ocean view with floor to ceiling windows & have tea, or play a game. There are computers to use also.

-Tap water was good. Our bathroom had double sinks, and a bendable magnifying mirror.

Cons:
-The room we were moved to (#83) smelled of old cigarette smoke. There was a wall fragrance unit that helped. Since we'd asked to move, we just opened the door at every opportunity & used the ceiling fan a lot. The extra blanket smelled as did carpet & curtains, but it wasn't overwhelming & we managed fine. Just had to wash everything when we got home.

-Guests are allowed to smoke outside on the balconies. We were next to a smoker who did this, so some times we didn't sit outside. I believe they set off the smoke alarm in their room at night a few times smoking, but it didn't beep too long. Thankfully they weren't there the whole time we were there.

-Carpet & curtains were stained & felt grungy. They could just use a good deep cleaning. We wore flip flops in the room, so not a big problem.

-The front door is loose in the latch, so when the wind blows it will raddle. You'll hear other doors raddling too. We put saran wrap in the hole where the latch protrudes & this helped keep it tight. Not a big problem, just might take some getting used to at night when trying to sleep.

-Countertops in the bathroom are short. You must bend over to use the sink unless your less than average height. The countertops are soap stone (I believe) & stay wet a long time. We had plastic containers to keep things in that helped.

-There a many sets of stairs. Our room was on the top floor, so a dozen steps there. To get to the beach there are multiple sets of stairs. It is a hilly terrain & it's part of what makes the views so pretty. It helped us walk off all the good food. :) The staff helped with luggage.

Tips:
-Bring a rain coat. Rain popped up on a whim. We used a book bag to carry them around in when not in use.

-Cabs will not take credit cards. Cash only plus tip, so figure out what you might need before you go. To take money out of the ATM machine for us costs $5.00 & then 3% of the total taken out. Check with your bank.

-The Dockyard museum with the Commissioner's House was cash only also. I think it was $12.00 per adult to get in. The views from the ramparts & House porch were well worth it.

-Some day's it was very windy. I bought a scarf & used it on those days.

-If you can take a ferry, it's the best way to commute. Busses were clean & drivers would let you know if you asked them to tell you of your stop coming up. Taxi's were a bit pricy, but their gas is expensive & you can chat with the driver about Bermuda. We used a taxi for the long ride to St. George town & from the Botanical Garden to the Zoo, Elbow Beach (pinkest sand) then back to the hotel. Average taxi cost was around $50.00 with tip to go & get back to Pompano.
Taxi cost from airport to Pompano with 20% tip was $60.00. Rates may go up in April.

-Would recommend tea at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. It's a long bus ride from Pompano.

-Remember your manors. People are so friendly & will help with directions, but greet them with a "Good Morning" first & end with a "Thank you & have a good day".

Bermuda was beautiful, clean, amazing ocean water & beached, & the people are happy & friendly. We had such a relaxing time. Would highly recommend a trip off season.

Room Tip: Of course the top level room had a great view without dealing with traffic overhead. Ask for a room...

We spent 9 days at Pompano and had a great time. The location and rooms are good and the service is friendly and unfailingly helpful. We took American Plan (half board for us Brits) which I strongly recommend. The food in both restaurants is plentiful, varied and excellent (5 courses each day). Also Port Royal, the golf course adjoining is first rate. Will definitely return.

In April of 2011 my husband and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the Pompano Beach Club. We hosted our children, their spouses and our 9 grandchildren to 5 unforgettable days there. Our party of 18 was a challenge I am sure, but we never experienced anything less than exceptional service. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The setting was outstanding with views of the ocean from everywhere on the property. The guest cottages were comfortable and convenient to the beach, pool and dining. We enjoyed exceptionally good food in both dining rooms. The wait staff was attentive and most helpful to our grandchilldren who loved having meals at their own table. Even though it's almost 3 years since we visited, there is never a family gathering without some discussion about the marvelous time we all had at the Pompano Beach Club. It was perfect!

We chose this hotel after reviewing many on Trip Adviser. We were a little nervous about the location because of previous comments. We arrived last Thursday on a wonderful flight and nice weather greeted us. We took a cab to the hotel and found it to be a beautiful 40 minute drive that went by in 10 min, we were so busy looking at the scenery and getting a history lesson from our driver. We arrived at the hotel and were immediately greeted by the friendliest people I have ever encountered on any trip and that is quite a few as my husband and i have been pretty much to every Caribbean island, Europe and the States. I wasn't expecting a 5 star plus like we are used too as I traded that off to be on the water. What a great trade off as we had 5 Star service which is far important then nick picky little things. Our room was lovely with a beautiful view of the ocean (rm 97) , everything was extremely clean which I also noticed about Bermuda was how clean it was all over the island. The front desk at the hotel are worth their weight in gold. Super friendly, very knowledgeable and never forgot to do a thing. Management was right on top of everything including the restaurants. Food as very very good with many choices and beautiful views. Chef Paul even went out of his way to make me one of my favorite dishes I was craving. After 3 days it felt like home. we loved the location and used the bus service extensively which is not normal practice for us. Wonderful service with good recommendations from front desk. We just left yesterday but we are already wishing to go back. Thank you to all for a wonderful trip!!!

What's not to like about the Pompano Beach Club? Not much, but on the whole, we had a pretty good 5 day stay there in February.
The weather could have been a bit better. It was the wettest February they have had in Bermuda in many years, but it didn't stop us from getting out and touring the island.
Our deluxe room was on the second floor of the Angel Fish complex and faced the ocean. We could not see the shoreline as there were a number of bushes in the way, but we did manage to get a few very nice sunsets from our large balcony

The room was very clean and the king size bed was comfortable. The bathroom was huge and the 2 sinks gave my wife and I plenty of elbow room. The shower stall was quite large. However, the water pressure from the shower head was not that great. The tap water was safe to drink, however we did buy a couple of bottles. The bedding and pillows were first rate, and the nightly turn down was a nice touch.

Our room was the last one in the row, so there was a couple of times we got a bit wet while walking outside in the rain to the club house. There are umbrella's in the room, but being close to the shoreline, it was a bit windy, so it was hard to stay completely dry.

The food in the 2 main restaurants was delicious. The quality and presentation were exceptional. The Cedar Room and the Ocean Grill were opened on alternate nights and dinner started at 6:30PM, by which time the sun had already set, so there was no view from either restaurant. I'm sure it would be spectacular in the summertime. The menus were posted on the bulletin board outside the Cedar Room each morning, so it gave us a chance to see what epicurean delights that would be tempting our pallets that night. The selections on the menu were extensive and I tried a different dish each night. I should point out at this time that one of the things that helped us in selecting the PBC, was their food. However, we could not eat a 5 course meal each night we were there. In fact, we rarely got past 3 courses. So when deciding your meal plan, keep this in mind. They have a reasonable wine list, but a bit pricy. We ordered a couple of bottles, and what we did not drink the first night, they corked and brought it back the next night. The service, at the tables was efficient and the staff were very friendly and took the time to get to know us

Breakfast was served in the Cedar room each morning. The first morning it was a buffet, which I did not enjoy. The home fried potatoes were not that good and the bacon was way over cooked to the point that when you picked it up, it just crumbled. The next 4 mornings we could choose from the breakfast menu, and this was much better. I was a bit disappointed in the French toast. I would have preferred the bread to be much thicker. All the other dishes that we tried on the menu were really tasty.

The Pool area was clean and tidy and the water was warm enough to swim in. There there was less that a dozen couples booked into the hotel and we were the only ones beside the pool for a while. We had the nachos for lunch beside the pool and they were delicious and reasonable priced, as was the draft Samuel Adams on tap.

The beach area was a disaster. There were humongous amounts of seaweed on the beach and it was impossible to sit down there without being bothered by the flying insects that were attracted by the drying seaweed. It would have been nice if the management had attempted to remove the stuff!

The staff were great. Archer was the first person to greet us on arrival and showed us around the complex while our bags were taken to our room. He is a character and seemed to be right there when you needed some help on deciding where to go. He was also the one who gave us a lift to the local grocery store and hung around to bring us back to the complex./he would come to ur table during dinner to ask if we were Ok and was there anything he could get for us.

The managers swizzle party on Monday night was a great hit. we got to meet the other guests and from then on, we would chat to them about their days outings. the party was a great way to break the ice. The hors d'oeuvres they served were fantastic

All in all, we had a good time and enjoyed our stay at the PBC. The small things I mentioned are small, but the good things are really good!

Room Tip: Select a room close to the club house in case it rains.
