My husband & I just returned from a one week cruise on Celebrity Summit to Bermuda from Port Liberty in Bayonne, NJ. After 2 fabulous days at sea, we docked at Kings Wharf in Bermuda for 3 days before the return sail home. As we have been to Bermuda numerous times over the years, we decided to forego any shopping or sightseeing and opted to take a taxi each day to Horseshoe Bay Beach. You do NOT need to do an excursion there. Just hop in a cab (we asked another couple to share which made the ride very cheap -- $15 per couple each way) and 15-20 minutes later we arrived at the beach. A short walk to the chair/umbrella concession where we rented one umbrella (there is no natural shade on this beach) and 2 adjustable beach chairs for $11 each. Cash only and they charge an extra $5 per item up front and then refund the amount when you return the items and present your receipt. The beach -- while very busy -- was absolutely heavenly. Gorgeous fine sand -- spectacularly clear/clean water. No need for beach shoes as there are no rocks as you walk in. There is even wi-fi available all over the beach for a modest fee (I paid $3 for one hour of connectivity just to check emails and send a few pics home!) They have CLEAN bathrooms, changing rooms and showers (no soap or shampoo so bring your own if you need to) as well as full food and drink concessions (including yummy frozen lemonade) right at the beach. For anyone who enjoys a full service beach experience it doesn't get much better than this!!!!! Perfect for families with young children particularly because there is not much wave action because this beach is a lovely cove with huge boulders just off shore where alot of people swam to and climbed on. If you want a private, quiet beach, this may not be for you. We loved it! Super clean and fantastic full facilities! I must also say that if you leave the beach any time before 5, there are many cabs (mini-vans) waiting to take you back to the ship or wherever.... Also, I must commend Celebrity Summit -- the ship was 100% full over the 4th of July week with lots of large family groups, but the food, service, etc was absolutely fantastic and we never felt that the ship was overcrowded. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Celebrity experience and cruising to Bermuda is the absolute best way to see the island and by far the most economical not to mention that 3 days at sea were sublime -- so incredibly relaxing yet so much to do onboard if you want! And for anyone within a few hours drive -- avoiding flying is a huge plus!

Very close to Fairmont private beach. Great opportunities for picture taking in coves and caves and on rocks.

We ran off our cruise ship and hopped on the local bus to be one of the first to arrive that morning. From the bus stop, it's a downhill walk of a few blocks and suddenly, when you emerge from the tree line, it's the most beautiful beach you will ever see.

Perfect sand and clear blue water. The water was relatively calm and shallow. On the one end of the beach, there is a large rocky cliff that you can climb and overlook the ocean. Below the cliff is a small shallow cove with plenty of fish; great snorkeling spot.

Within an hour, though, the beach was jam packed. Get there early!

On the way back to the bus, there is a man who will drive you to the top of the hill in a van for $2. After a long day of swimming, it might be worth it on a hot, humid day!

Horseshoe is a very nice beach but it seems very seedy once it becomes mobbed with people. when they leave (to get back to ship for chow time) it becomes the pristine beauty intended.
