We just came back from Fairmont SouthHampton. Stayed there for three nights. We didn't experience problems with the service - on the contrary, we experienced good service. We booked our tour with Liberty Travel and we were supposed to get a moderate room, but when inquired at the hotel itself about potential upgrade, we were given a deluxe room with a magnificant view of the harbor. That view from the balcony was priceless!
Hotel's best part is its private beach. It is right next door to Horse shoe beach - a public beach we usually visit when on a cruise. Fairmont's beach is much better kept and there are plenty of lawn chairs and umbrellas supplied by the hotel. Nice little restaurant to pick up lunch from or a sandwich to go. There is a trolley that takes you to the beach every 10 minutes, but it is a an easy scienic walk to the beach (5min) if don't feel like waiting.
The property of the hotel is gorgeous and the views are excellent. You will love it there. It can be a place for romance (nice beach, romantic harborfront views and a balcony in your room with candle/matches provided) or a place to take your kids to. We saw many families with young kids as young as 1,5 year old.
And there is a day camp for kids that we heard is terrific. Only $15 per child per day. And they offer day trips for additional fee. We heard kids really enjoyed it. Kids also loved indoor and outdoor pools.
Also golf course looked great. (now, i am not a golfer so I can't provide any more insights there).
Hotel has at least 5 restauarants, we tried the ocean club - it is overlooking the harbor (make a reservation there for not earlier that 7pm if you want to sit outside otherwise it is too hot). The view from it is great, the food is expensive. We had an appetizers bento plate ($38) and were not very impressed.
Jasmine restaraunt inside the hotel - the casual one, turned out to be better. We had vegetarian pizza (yammy) and a trio of dips - very nice also. The bill came to about $38. And it was enough for dinner. In general, food is very expensive there.
Another thing that you can't walk anywhere interesting from Fairmont SouthHampton. Take a cab here and take a cab there.
Also, nothing to do at night - no pay per view service even.
But If you want to spent a few days at the gorgeous beach and to treat yourself to nice accomodations and good service - it is a place for you. We haven't tried scuba and snorkeling - but guessing that would be fun to do there as we saw a couple of colorful fishes.

My Fiance and I booked this 16 night holiday after reading reviews of the hotel through this site and we knew not to expect a typically romantic hotel. What we wanted was a fun holiday with lots to see and do and WE GOT IT!!! When we arrived we were shown to the 6th floor (fairmont gold floor) and met a lovely person at our own concierge desk. Our room was lovely with a view over the golf couse and the harbour. We chose the Fairmont gold floor as you get your own concierge, own place to have your continental breakfast, afternoon tea, etc and drinks in the evening which you help yourself to and write down what you have had .... very relaxing.

Yes the pool area got very busy but that was to be expected as the hotel was full and the children were on school holidays. We never had any trouble finding a bed chair though. The service by the pool was occasionally slow but that was only when it got very busy.

We hired a moped for the entire holiday and we would definitely recommend this as we managed to explore the whole of the island easily and didnt have to use the crowded shuttle buses.

The hotel beach was lovely and clean and the service was great. Only tip is to get there early if you want an umbrella, we tended to go there in the afternoon and managed to find bed chairs easily but umbrellas were sparse.

As we were celebrating our engagement we booked the Newport Room (top restaurant in the Hotel) WOW it was the most amazing restaurant I have ever been too, yes it was expensive, BUT you get the food and the service that you pay for. Highly recommended.

We also tried the Waterlot Inn and I am amazed it has good reviews....We had booked a table yet when arriving we were shown to a 'holding' area to have a drink and waited for nearly an hour to sit down...along with other couples too. When we complained we were shown immediately to a table. The service was ok but we found that it was an overpriced steakhouse basically.....!

The Cellar bar was a lot of fun and we had some good nights in the Jasmine bar too....

Overall, a wicked holiday !!

Went with my wife for 4 nights to the Southhampton.
Stayed in the Fairmount room, which was very nice. Great comfy beds, nice size, very nice bathroom, aircon great too.
It was on the 2nd floor but not noisy at all.
The hotel is very nice. The beach is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
Great clear and very warm ocean. Nice soft sand and very safe to swima nd snorkel in the cove. Has large rocks to snorkel around.
Beach gear can be rented, we brought our own snorkel and flippers with. Can go diving too from the beach on organized tours.
Ate out every night at superb restaurants. 2 in Hamilton called Bistro J and Barracudas, both excellent. Ate at Micky's on the beach at sunset, excellent. Also ate at Aqua, superb meals at all the restaurants.
The free shuttle ferry was nice too, went on it twice. took cabs elsewhere which can add up.
Overall, loved the hotel and beach and would definately return.

The staff was rude and uninformed and it ruined our stay at an otherwise lovely hotel. I will not return to this hotel.

We were impressed with almost every aspect of our trip to Bermuda and our stay at Fairmont Southampton. It is expensive, but we have found on our recent vacations that you get what you pay for. Our room (the basic room) was spacious, comfortable and luxurious with a balcony and a view of the lighthouse and ocean. The beach is fabulous and just a 2 minute trolley ride down the hill. There are plenty of chairs and umbrellas even if you don't get there first thing in the morning. The same can't be said for the (heated) pool though, but why go to the pool when there's such a beautiful beach so close? Bacci and the Ocean Club are both excellent for dinner. 2 of the other restaurants require/suggest jackets for men, so we didn't try those. You pay extra to use the gym ($15 a day or $40 for your entire stay), but it's a good facility as far as hotel gyms go, so we felt like it was worth it. We're not spa people, so we didn't do the spa. Jasmine and the Cellar are onsite bars, and both had bands every night. Service was excellent everywhere, from the restaurants to the concierge and maid service. All restaurants add a 15.75% gratuity to your bill, which is very convenient. A 30-minute ferry takes you over to Hamilton, which we enjoyed, but we were glad to be staying in the idyllic spot we were at in Southampton instead of right in town at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. We have been disappointed on some of our recent trips so we were delighted to be so impressed with the Fairmont Southampton. The only complaints we had were: we wondered why there isn't a shuttle to the airport from the hotel, and vice versa, since there are so many guests coming and going, and the taxi ride each way is $40. The Cabana lunch spot by the beach is just OK, sort of typical beach lunch burgers etc., but we thought the drinks were good. The breakfast and lunch options on site are very expensive, and although the food is decent, for the prices, it could be better. Often it took a while to get through to the concierge desk to make restaurant reservations. But that's about all we could complain about. We had never been to Bermuda before and we can't wait to go back. With less than a 2-hour flight each way for New Yorkers to such an idyllic spot , we're sort of wondering why we would ever go anywhere else.

I was concerned after reading a few negative reviews on this website, but thought that the location of the resort was unparalleled. Upon arriving, I didn't know why anyone would complain about anything at Fairmont Southampton. After all, there are over 500 rooms at this hotel and 1 person with unreasonable expectations (or a small budget) could find something to complain about anywhere they went.

This resort is truly all-inclusive. I spent 7 days and 6 nights and was able to try the variety of restaurants both on and off the property. All of the meals I had off, I wish I just stayed on. Ocean Club, Waterlott Inn, and Newport Room offer top-notch cuisine. I'm from New York City and thought that the food at these restaurants could rival some of the marquee names in NYC. Windows on the Sound and Wickets offer more casual options for breakfast and lunch. Believe it or not, the lobby bar Jasmine had some nice casual offerings as well.

The hotel is pricey, but at the same time Bermuda is an expensive island. You get what you pay for at the Fairmont Southampton. Yes, there is a trolley to take you to the beach. But that's so you don't have to walk down the hill (which you can, if you choose). Guests at Elbow Beach wish they had a trolley to get them to their beach (which isn't as private and clean as the Southampton's). They also have the complimentary ferry (which is more like a boat) that brings you right into Hamilton and their sister property. This saves you $40 round-trip via taxi and lands you smack dab in the middle of downtown (if you even need to go there) and takes about the same time as a cab. It's a nice addition that some reviews wrote negatively about, but keep in mind NO OTHER hotel/resort on the island does this (and you're not forced to take the ferry).

Overall, Fairmont Southampton has wonderful large rooms with balconies, service significantly above average for Bermuda, enough great food options to keep you tethered to the resort, a wonderful private beach that is also a 5-minute walk from Travel Channel's #1-ranked public beach in the world, and many conveniences that will have me stay again the next time I visit the island.

An immaculately-grromed hotel in acres of maincured grounds nestled next to one of the most famous beaches in the world. What could be better?

Well, a few things, actually. This is a wonderful hotel for that long weekend break, where you don't get to stress the hotel's systems too much. But we were there almost two weeks and that's when you start to realise all isn't quite as smooth as it should be.

The hotel is large - and that means that it isn't personal. The staff - some at Reception excluded - are unfailingly friendly, but they work in silos and it's often hard to have someone take ownership of a problem.

The hotel room rate is high but it's arguably the best on the island (and you pay for that). It's certainly not 5* but expect a good 4* hotel and you won't be disappointed.

When you're booking a room, steer clear of the basic rooms as they're not refurbished and are pretty poor; clean, but very tired. And at the rate you'll be paying, you'll expect a lot more. The Fairmont (and better) rooms are very good and - first floor aside - will have lovely view of the island and ocean.

The hotel has a great concierge desk, so use it to avoid paying crazy hotel prices for their restaurants (and have the added bonus of seeing something of the island at the same time). Restaurants outside the hotel are usually good, sometimes very good, and you'll save 30% on the bill compared to eating in. The exception is the hotel's Waterlot Inn, which is an experience worth paying for. But remember, Bermuda isn't cheap, even though its currency is linked to the US Dollar, so be prepared for some steep prices.

The hotel's beach club gets busy in peal season and you need to be there by 10.30am to get a sun umbrella easily. But walk next door to Horseshoe Bay, enjoy a way better beach (one of the best in the world) and, at low tide, walk the coastline westwards on pale pink, talcum-powder soft beach. Fabulous!

The weather can be variable; always warm but often rainy, and there's not enough bad-weather activities on the island to keep a famiily going for more than three or four days, so bear this in mind. But when the sun's out, there are few places more beautiful and relaxed.
