Fairmont Southampton
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 3, 2013

My husband and I spent a week at the Fairmont Southampton, at the end of April. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. There is a Keurig single cup machine in the room, with ample K cups provided, which is nicer than most hotel room coffee machines. The staff (reception, concierge, dining, cleaning, etc) were helpful and attentive. There are several restaurants on site and the food is good, but quite expensive. All restaurants at the hotel automatically add a 17% gratuity, but this appears to be standard for the island. It is a large resort, so the hotel provides frequent trolley service to both the bay and the oceanfront. Also provided is a ferry that connects the Fairmont Southampton to its sister hotel in Hamilton, the Fairmont Princess; the ferry operates three times each day. The hotel has a nice private beach next to Horseshoe Bay. But be sure to visit the public beach at Horseshoe Bay, as the views are far more spectacular.
This is a lovely hotel and we enjoyed our stay immensely.

Thank you for sharing about stay - it sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed Bermuda and I'm so happy to hear that. You are right - the 17% gratuities is fairly standard across Bermuda. I'm also glad to hear that our staff were friendly & accommodating, and I hope that you consider returning back to beautiful Bermuda again soon!

The Southampton Fairmont is a lovely property with panoramic views. each room has a balcony overlooking either lovely gardens or the sea. The staff is friendly and helpful and exhibit a can do attitude to every request. As I was attending a conference, I can also state that their banquet staff is terrific and I would recommend it highly for either conference locale or vacation.

Room Tip: The additional cost of the ocean front rooms may not be worth it as the views are all fine!

My husband and myself stayed at this hotel for four nights at the end of April. This was the beginning of their summer season and when things start to get busy and weather much better.

The hotel itself is very nice. We got this hotel through Hotwire, so we got a great rate. The regular prices are a little steep, but most things are in Bermuda. We had a nice room with a king bed, large closet, nice bathroom with two sinks, and a small sitting area. Our balcony overlooked the harbour, which was fine by us. It was a nice view. My only complaint would be that we could hear the people above us very early in the morning, and also out in the hallway.

The restaurants at the Fairmont are pricey, but very good. Waterlot was excellent and the caesar salad was worth the price. They had some entertainment (which was excellent) on the "Dock at Waterlot", which is a really nice dock outside the restaurant, with nice patio seating and bar service. They also served light food. Bacci was very good, but my husband was not thrilled with the spaghetti and meatballs. His salad was good and my whole meal was excellent. I had the chicken parmasan. I had a half bottle of wine, which was $35, which while a little expensive, isn't all that unrealistic. Jasmine's in the lobby had amazing food. We had dinner there one night, and appetizers and dessert another. Everything we had was fantastic. My husband had the "chocolate bombe" twice it was so good.

The trolley is very handy and comes every few minutes. We never had to wait too long. It will take you to all the restaurants and the beach.

The beach is beautiful and the colour of the water is simply amazing when the sun is out. The famous "Horseshoe Bay" is right next to the Fairmont beach. There is a seafood restaurant overlooking the ocean that looked really nice, but we never did try. There is also a beach bar/grill that served drinks and lunch type food. There were servers on the beach that would take your order from your lounger.

All in all, this is a very nice resort and as long as you can get a decent price, you will be very happy.

While the main areas of the hotel are a bit dated; the location, people and private beach is worth it the price!

Pros: The cab drivers, personnel, the food was above average and the we loved the owner of the Dive Shop, who was very kind to our children! We have to say a special thanks to Rolly, on the Gold Lounge Level, who spoiled us.

Cons: It is one of the more expensive Islands; the additional staff on the Gold Level was more attentive in the beginning of the trip then when we were leaving and did I say it is expensive?

Room Tip: The breakfast, water/soda, snacks and cookies on the Gold Level alone make it worth the price. Keep...

First trip to Bermuda for a meeting and this was the headquarters hotel and it met my expectations. The room was lovely; I reserved a harbor view but, upon seeing that view, asked and was moved to an ocean view. Large room, nice balcony, two sinks in vanity room, oversize closet, comfortable bed. No issues with housekeeping. Everyone on property was nice and friendly and, except for some housekeepers, everyone went out of their way to say hello. Only ate at the Walterlot but those in the group who ate at Ocean Club and Bacci were happy. Frequent shuttles to beach/ferry so although its just a short walk this wasn't really an issue. Nice beach but I see how it could become crowded. Nice gym but never used the spa. A bit of a distance from things but most places are. Overall, would stay here again without reservation.

Room Tip: Absolutely choose the ocean side, the harbor view has a view of the spa roof, and if you can stay on...

2013 is a big year for us. Not only did we celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in January, but my wife and I are both turning 50 later this year. We spent our honeymoon and 10 year anniversary in Saint Barts and wanted to do something just as special this year to commemorate these extraordinary milestones of life. I always wanted to go to Bermuda and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. The kids are off school for spring break in late April, Bermuda ocean temps are just starting to warm up, and we have good reason to celebrate.

We booked a 3 night stay in one of the Fairmont Gold level rooms to enjoy all the perks that come with it. We even convinced another family from town to join us at the resort.

Well we just returned last night and wanted to take a moment to thank the entire staff for our fabulous stay at The Fairmont Southampton. Everything was just perfect, including the weather. Thursday afternoon – our arrival day – was not the greatest weather (overcast and drizzle), but it gave us the opportunity to explore the hotel and spend some time at the heated pool and Jacuzzi. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were absolute beautiful beach days and we took full advantage. The Fairmont private beach was just breathtaking along with Horseshoe Bay beach and the water temp was just fine (71 deg F). The kids utilized the dive shop’s very inexpensive rentals (water trampoline, snorkeling, and paddle-boarding) and had a blast. Rolly at the Gold Lounge took excellent care of us and our friends the whole trip.

We took the complementary ferry over to the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Friday night and enjoyed the Gold Level tapas and beverages as part of their reciprocal agreement with the Fairmont Southampton. The Fairmont Hamilton Princess is more city center and while lovely, not very convenient if your main attraction is the beach. But I'm happy we checked it out and had an opportunity to walk through town and have dinner there.

In summary, I would highly recommend making this trip in late April. Temperature was very comfortable, beaches were not crowded at all, and the service was impeccable. Do your self a favor and go Gold.

Many thanks to Carlita (Marketing & Communications Manager) the Hotel Manager Rita for ensuring it was a trip we will never forget.

We had a wonderful stay at the Fairmont Southampton. Everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating. We would not hesitate to stay here again. The property was beautiful and our room was wonderful. The gym in the hotel is actually quite nice...it over looks the pool and the ocean...not many hotels actually have such a nice gym. Not that this should make your decision, but its a plus. The breakfast in Windows each day was so great and the service there was also wonderful.

We had a small hiccup with the concierge giving us the wrong ferry schedule (to fairmont hamilton), but management rectified the situation right away and they were very sorry for the mistake. The professionalism of the staff is what makes this place in my opinion an "excellent" stay. We will certainly return.
