This was our first trip to Bermuda but not our last, and when we return, Elbow beach is where we will stay! I read some reviews and am amazed at what some people complain about. The main building being closed was a good thing! The beautiful sprawling grounds were quieter and there was NEVER a wait for a table at any of the restaurants or for chairs by the beach. All three restaurants were excellent and all had incredible views of the ocean. The staff at the entire resort was not only friendly and helpful, but genuine. You always had the feeling that they enjoyed working there. The room was wonderful. The Spa was wonderful. We dined at two other nearby "top" resorts and although nice, they didn't compare to Elbow. The beach was amazing. So much so that when we ventured one day to Horseshoe Bay to see what all the hype was about, we quickly returned to the serenity of Elbow beach ( a MUCH nicer beach). To be fair, Horseshoe Bay was beautiful. But on days when Cruise ships were in it is just too crowded. Plus the fact we payed $33.00 to rent two rickety chairs and a cheesy umbrella (which we used for about 15 minutes!). We very much look forward to our next visit to Bermuda and Elbow Beach!!

We chose Bermuda for a long weekend trip because it was a short flight from NYC. We did a lot of research on hotels prior to booking and Elbow Beach was our top choice. We had a wonderful stay and are already talking about returning next year.

THE BEACH
The beach is breathtaking. The sand is so soft and the ocean is a gorgeous turquoise. It's right up there with the beaches in Hawaii and Thailand.

THE STAFF
When we checked in to our room, there was a handwritten note from the manager welcoming us and congratulating us on our anniversary and a bottle of wine. Throughout our stay, we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. They quickly brought towels over to our chairs on the beach and it was easy to order food/drinks from the beach.

THE ROOMS
We stayed in one of the villa rooms close to the ocean. The hotel has a shuttle that will take you up to the main building for check-in/check-out or down to the ocean if you don't want to walk. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable. We enjoyed keeping the sliding door open for the sea breeze and eating breakfast on the patio.

FOOD
We used room service once for dinner and twice for breakfast and enjoyed the food each time. We ate at Mickey's Bistro twice for lunch (and loved the avocado/tomato/tortilla appetizer). For dinner, we ate at Lido and Sea Breeze restaurants. We really liked the tapas at Sea Breeze (esp the spring rolls).

THE RESORT
Yes, there is a resort fee, but many places in the Caribbean and Hawaii do that, so it's not unusual. In return for the fee, you get incredibly good WiFi. We had an excellent connection, even on the beach.

Yes, the food is expensive, but we also thought the food was very good quality and we liked the convenience of staying at the resort to eat.

The pool is large, but somewhat of a disappointment since it looks older and isn't particularly attractive. But the beach was so nice that it didn't matter.

We rented a scooter from the resort and rode around the island. We had a great time and it was fun to see the town and nearby beaches.

In summary, we had a memorable stay and highly recommend both Bermuda and the Elbow Beach hotel.

I had dreamed of going to Elbow Beach for many years and when it finally came time to plan our first trip to Bermuda it was my first choice. I read all the reviews for other resorts on TripAdvisor and came down to my top 3 Reefs, Elbow and Pompano Beach resort. What won it for me was the size of Elbow's beach and location close to town plus it had always been my dream. First let me agree with other reviewers the main hotel is a little strange with no rooms being open in it but all you do there is check in and out. The check in process was a little frustrating but once we got past that all was perfect. The level of service was amazing everyone saying hello stopping to ask if you need a ride anywhere and service at all of our meals out of this world. The beach is definitely one of the most beautiful on the island and you really don't need to leave it but we did venture out to Hamilton, snorkeling cruise and Horseshoe Bay Beach. The sand is like talcum powder soooo soft, never hot and the color of the water amazing with no seaweed. We have done a lot of traveling Caribbean, Hawaii and it was one of my top vacations due to the amazing beaches and hospitality of the people. We took taxi's everywhere and didn't find it over the top expensive and they are always available at Elbow. The island is expensive but if you know that coming in just enjoy. After traveling around the island and going to the Reefs for an amazing dinner one night at Coconuts, we were so glad we picked Elbow Beach there was always something going on at night, food at Sea Breeze, Mickey's and Lido was amazing as well as the location of our room right across from the beach and restaurants. We traveled with another couple who had never been to the island as well and they were blown away by the beauty, cleanliness and hospitality as well.

Room Tip: Ask to be down near the beach.

We chose to stay at The Elbow Beach Resort, now a Mandarin Oriental property, because we thought it might be better suited to my niece and nephew, ages 12 & 14, than The Reefs, which has always been our first choice when staying in Bermuda. Also traveling with my husband and myself were my brother and sister-in-law and our adult son and his girlfriend. Here are the positives: beautiful beach with plenty of lounge chairs, towels set out for you and prompt, friendly drink/food service. All staff members were welcoming, very efficient and courteous. There are 3 restaurants. The food was quite good and the service was excellent. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and well-tended by housekeeping. Here are the negatives: if you aren't in one of the cottages at the bottom of the hill, close to the beach and restaurants, then you'll have a hike. Conversely, if you have a room in a cottage at the bottom of the hill, you'll have a hike the other way. I don't like the fact that you need to obtain transportation to get from one part of the hotel to the other. The pool area was like a ghost town. Not a comfortable feeling. Our room was advertised as having an ocean view. Hardly. We basically could see glimpses from either side of a small building across the little street. Over the weekend, there's music, which is extremely loud and can be clearly heard if you're in a cottage close to the restaurants. Yes, it stopped by 11 as promised, but it seemed like something you would have on a cruise ship in the "disco lounge" and not at what is supposed to be a multi-star resort. All in all, Elbow Beach is a nice hotel, but for the $$$$, we'll be returning to The Reefs!

Room Tip: Reserve a room in a cottage close at the bottom of the hill to make access to the beach and restaura...

The good: beach staff who set up your chair with towels and bring your food and drinks to you all day and chilled towels to pamper yourself with. The beach is wonderful. The snorkeling is pretty good. The linens are very nice. The fitness room is good and cool and clean. The AC in the rooms is very quiet. The bad: They add a "resort fee" to your stay whether you use the items "included' or not. for the money they charge they should not have had 2 out of 4 mornings where they ran out of beach towels. They had no mint to make drinks at the restaurant. The beach restaurant, Mickey's, gets very boring if you are stuck at the resort as we were. The food is not imaginative at all. This place is not elderly friendly, it is built on a huge hill and there are lots of stairs involved. The business center smells strongly of mildew. There is nothing to do at night at the resort. The main building is shut down except for the lobby. All in all overpriced. Also automatic 17% gratuity on every meal. And the food is ridiculously expensive for breakfast. They also don't put prices ob the room service menu. They charged $22 for berries.

Dear islandgirl88,

We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay.

Thank you for your kind words about our beach and beach attendants. We’re so pleased to hear that they catered to your needs and provided a luxury experience. We’re glad that you found the guestroom linens to be of very good quality and that you were able to enjoy using our Fitness Room.

Our apologies that the food and beverage options at the resort did not meet your expectations in terms of creativity and value. We are addressing the issues you have highlighted with our food and beverage team to see what changes can be made to improve the quality of the experience.

Our 50 acre resort is extensive, but we do have a 24-hour shuttle service available for our guests. Our apologies if you were not made aware of its availability during your stay. We also have DJ’s and live musicians at the Sea Breeze Terrace on Thursday and Friday evenings throughout the summer. Guest’s can enjoy cocktails, tapas and sushi while enjoying the music and panoramic ocean views.

The main hotel building still houses a number of wonderful amenities for our guests including the Lobby, temperature-controlled swimming pool, Blue Point Poolside Restaurant, The Camp at Elbow Beach, The Spa at Elbow Beach, Poolside Spa Cabanas, The Library Recreation Lounge, fitness room, business centre and a variety of meeting space.

Thank you again for your feedback. Such constructive comments are excellent ways for us to either reward our team for a job well done or to use as tools in our quest for continual improvement.

The location is great as the beach is fantastic. However the hotel is understaffed and feels more like a Shreraton. I just don't think it was worth the price.

The restaurants are great and as I mentioned the beach was beautiful.

Now here are my issues with this place. The pool is depressing and you have to hike up a steep hill to get there while dodging speeding taxis. Service outside of the restaurants was spotty. One day someone brought us towels while we were at the beach, the next day we were told we needed to go get them ourselves. This place is not kid friendly with the taxis speeding around the property and the fact that the hotel provided car seats that looked like they're from the early 1980's. Again this place is understaffed. One example is when we checked out, there was one employee in the cavernous lobby checking people in/out, acting as the concierge and answering the phone.

This is a beautiful location but there are better options at this price point.

Dear GPRIII,

Thank you for taking to the time to provide us with such valuable feedback on your stay.

Thank you for your kind compliments on our beach and restaurants. We're glad that you enjoyed the beauty of our private pink sand beach and that you had great dining experiences while you were with us.

Elbow Beach has been managed by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group since 2000 and is privately owned. We were very sorry to hear that the resort did not measure up to your expectations as a Mandarin Oriental property, and we take your comments very seriously.

Attention to detail is a hallmark of luxury service, and we're very sorry to hear that our team missed the mark on this throughout your stay. The service issues you have highlighted are currently being discussed with our team so that they can be rectified moving forward.

We also appreciate your feedback about the taxis and car seats and will be reaching out to the taxi companies to address these issues.

We take each of your comments to heart and appreciate you taking the time to provide such detailed feedback.

Warm regards,

We stay at this hotel every year because of the location. Close to Hamilton and on a very beautiful beach. Yes, it is very expensive but kept clean and staff goes out of their way to be helpful. The main building has been closed for several years and the economy in Bermuda doesn't seem to be improving. We noticed more businesses that were closed since our last trip which is a shame, less flights coming into the island and less cruise ships which means even less tourism. Our only complaint was the cycle shop on the premises gave us a scooter that did not lock, had bad brakes and well over 25,000 miles on it. Had to go into downtown Hamilton to rent a safe scooter. Stayed 3 nights which is more than enough for Bermuda as not much to do on the island in the evening. Bermuda is a great weekend getaway from the east coast but anything longer than a long weekend is a waste of money. No real water sports available and the restaurants all seem to serve the same food at a hefty price. The resort itself is hard to maneuver because it is basically a cottage hotel built on step cliffs but so are many hotels in Bermuda so if you have trouble walking and don"t rent a scooter this is probably not the hotel or island for you.

Dear marilyn1025,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay at Elbow Beach.

We appreciate your kind compliments about our location and beach! Thank you also for your kind words about our colleagues, we’re so pleased that you found them to be helpful and kind.

We appreciate you letting us know about your experience at the cycle shop. We have spoken to the Manager regarding your concerns to make sure this issue is rectified moving forward. A new fleet of bikes is available and the very best should always be at the disposal of our guests.

We take your feedback regarding the restaurant and water sport options very seriously and are currently meeting with the relevant departments to discuss ways to improve upon these areas. We recently opened a new recreation facility at the beachfront called The Wreck Centre at Elbow Beach. They offer masks, snorkels, fins, big floats, boogie boards, skim boards, paddles boards and kayaks for our guests to rent. They also offer a variety of scuba diving and snorkeling experiences. Guests wishing to learn how to scuba dive can take part in complimentary “Try Dives” at our pool daily and then go on to more advanced scuba lessons.

Our 50 acre resort is extensive, but we do have a 24-hour shuttle service available for our guests. Our apologies if you were not made aware of its availability during your stay.

Thank you again for taking the time to send us such valuable feedback.
