“A Bermudiful Stay!”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

My husband and I stayed at the Newstead Belmont Hills for 8 nights in March, 2014. Our trip was a combination of business and pleasure as we came to Bermuda to teach jump rope skills to the school children here and then we stayed afterward to enjoy the island. Mr. Bushara, the General Manager, made sure that everything related to our stay was anticipated and handled perfectly by his staff. We made frequent use of the convenient private water taxi that took guests on the 5 minute trip across the harbor into Hamilton on the half hour. The boat was named Carolyn, and we enjoyed watching Carolyn come and go from our beautiful double balcony. With the water taxi available, we could easily get to town, and from there, anywhere else on the island we wanted to go. Our suite was complete, down to the convection oven and bakeware. Our housekeeper barely let a dish accumulate before she ran the dishwasher! The suite was spacious and comfortable with a huge walk-in shower, a HUGE jacuzzi tub, 2 TVs, patio furniture and more fluffy towels than any couple could ever need. The view? Seriously, there could have been no better view of Hamilton across the harbor than we had from our balcony. The lights at night were enchanting.

While we didn't use the spa, we enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub. Even in the "cool" Bermudian "winter," the heated water was relaxing. And the view from the pool......WOW!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Newstead Belmont Hills Hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms face the harbor, I believe.

Last Thanksgiving my wife and I spent a week at the Newstead Hotel in Bermuda. We went there to play golf at the hotel's golf course, which was a five minute shuttle ride away. The hotel is on the ocean and features a nice pool and hot tub. There is a restaurant on site. The people who worked at the hotel couldn't have been nice or more accommodating. There is a daily resort fee, so guests aren't expected to tip.

We enjoyed the golf course very much. There were few players, and the course was in excellent shape.Thee is another restaurant at the course, and it was our favorite.

I would go back to the island, but there are a couple of problems. The price of food is outrageous.Since all food is imported, the cost to eat out is high. One night we split a pizza and salad with two beers, after taking the shuttle boat to Hamilton. The bill was $75! We ended up buying groceries and eating breakfast and lunch in our room, which was large with a balcony overlooking the bay. We ate dinner out. The second issue is transportation. Were I alone I would have rented a scooter. It isn't easy to drive there, and walking is hard due to the narrow streets and traffic. We were dependent on hotel shuttles.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to have an ocean view.

We had initially booked Rosewood Tucker’s Point but when I saw how expensive eating out was going to be I really wanted a self-catering option so cancelled that hotel and booked the Newstead Belmont. Boy, was that the best decision we made this year.

A booking with the Newstead Belmont came with free airport transfers and a free water shuttle to Hamilton. By booking this hotel instead we were able to shave about $500 off the room rate AND save on airport transfers, taxi fares and dining out costs.

This hotel was the perfect combination of five star service and self-catering facilities. The suites are absolutely wonderful, literally the best we’ve ever stayed in – incredibly stylish but simple decor, huge and comfortable bed, and the best part were the double balconies perched literally over the water. The weather was warm enough even over Christmas to leave the doors open and fall asleep to the sound of water lapping the rocks. There was also a ridiculously well stocked kitchen. Whatever you think you might need to cook, it’s there, with everything from cheese graters to ice buckets.

There was so much space, the suite was more like an apartment, and provided the perfect antidote to a hectic visit in New York. We spent the evenings curled up on the sofas watching DVDs (bring your own) or reading on the balconies and the days relaxing down by the heated pool or wandering around the towns of St. George and Hamilton. The bus works simply and perfectly, it’s a fantastic way to get around the island.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re not super budget-conscious, but Bermuda is quite expensive, and for us the average lunch cost about $80 and dinner $160/200. Even self catering wasn’t cheap, with a frozen pizza retailing at about $18!

There is a grocery store about ten minutes’ walk away, but to be honest you really should just catch the boat and go to a much bigger and better value supermarket just across in Hamilton, about three blocks back to the right from the harbour (anybody will point you that direction).

Our shuttle bus driver was an absolute gentleman, and our only regret was not following his advice about which restaurants to go to and which to avoid! Indeed everybody else we met at the hotel, and Bermuda in general were unfailingly polite – even the (very few) bums wished us a good morning and good evening! There is an endearing old-fashioned civility to the place, from the beautiful architecture to the clean, well-swept streets and of course the charming and very hospitable Bermudians.

We have been telling everyone who’ll listen that they shouldn’t schedule a trip to NYC without also pencilling in a few days of R&R in Bermuda. Most don’t realise it’s just two hours away, and with a variety of amazing hotels like the Newstead Belmont.

Never have I seen a hotel so geared towards absolute, unadulerated relaxation – we’ll be back.

Room Tip: Any of the self-catering suites on the water - it was just heaven to wake up to the sound of lapping...

We are on day 3 of our week-long stay at Newstead, and we couldn't be happier. The staff have been very kind and helpful, a plus when there are five family members (including one 2 year-old) travelling together. We have a very well appointed 2-bedroom suite with plenty of space and a very well equipped kitchen. Room service is prompt and the food is fine too. Housekeeping folks are thorough and very helpful. 2 year-old didn't like the cot - so the housekeeping people got a side-rail so the little fellow wouldn't fall out of a big bed....
For the rooms we have - well, we couldn't be happier up on the 4th floor (lovely views) of the hotel.

Room Tip: It doesn't really matter where you are at Newstead - all the rooms are great...

We had an awesome 4 night stay in a one bedroom room suite which might be larger than my one bedroom condo. It has a modern, fully equipped kitchen, two covered balconies, very large bathroom with a soaking tub and shower, large bedroom with a comfy king sized bed. The views from the higher floors may be a bit better (the handrail comes up several feet), but the outdoor space was wonderful for a relaxing cup of coffee or glass of wine. The infinity pool is gorgeous and is heated, which was important in mid-Feb.

The complimentary ferry service to Hamilton is a very nice feature, but does have limited service on the weekends, not a problem since a cab is only about $10. The complimentary shuttle to the beach is also nice. Keep in mind that this is a private beach and quite small. The public buses are easily accessible if you’re looking for some of the larger beaches. The staff was very friendly and quick with recommendations on everything.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing winter getaway and would love to come back in the summer when you could take advantage of the snorkeling.

The Newstead is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in for a long time. I had a two bed roomed suite which was stylishly furnished and very comfortable. The rooms were large, and well equipped.
The kitchen area was well appointed with everything that was needed to prepare a meal.
The pool area was clean and the water in the pool was warm. It was a delight to swim in it with beautiful views across the harbour area to Hamilton.
The hotel offered a boat service to Hamitlon although this was not running during our stay. There was also a courtesy car to the golf club and to the beach.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, from the cleaners to the gardener to the receptionists. There was only one person on reception whom we found a bit curt and unhelpful.

A friend and I stayed in the 2 bedroom suite and it was beautiful, especially the master suite. The living area was spacious and elegant and from the huge balcony, we could take in the beautiful views of the water and swimming pool. If you are going golfing, taking a power cart at a hefty $35 per person is mandatory for tourists. Additionally, if you want a late check-out, they won't tell you till the morning that you have to check out, making it somewhat inconvenient if you have a tee time booked on that day of departure. But otherwise, I would definitely recommend this property.

Room Tip: The bigger 2 bedroom suite offers the best of everything.
