This was our 4th trip to Bermuda and definitely the nicest place we've stayed so far (On prior trips, we stayed at the original Belmont, the Rosemont, and the Hamilton Fairmont). We booked a 2-bedroom, 2 bath suite for our family of 4. It was actually 2-1/2 baths -- very nice, modern, and quite spacious, with a fully furnished kitchen which allowed us to eat a relaxing breakfast at "home" every morning rather than going out for breakfast. The best part was the large deck/porch with incredible 180 degree views of Hamilton harbor and the city. We liked the location, away from the hustle and traffic of the city, but it isn't practical to walk anywhere from the hotel. The Newstead has a free ferry to shuttle you to Hamilton (about 7 minutes), but it doesn't run on Sundays, holidays, or when raining, and only runs for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the early evening (last return at 8:30 pm), so we had to take a taxi to or from Hamilton several evenings. The public ferry only runs until 6 pm, so neither ran late enough to return from Hamilton after dinner. The cab fare was about $10 each way. The name "golf resort" and the website suggest that the hotel is adjacent to the golf club property, but the golf course is not adjacent or even walking distance from the hotel. There is a complimentary shuttle that will take you to the golf club and Blu restaurant, about a 5-7 minute drive from the hotel. There is also a complimentary shuttle to the beach, but it only runs until 3:30 pm, so if you want to go or stay later, you must take a taxi. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get a cab from the hotel, so it wasn't a problem, but a bit of added expense you should plan for that you wouldn't have if staying in Hamilton within an easy walk of restaurants, shopping, sights, etc.

Room Tip: The top floor (3rd floor above ground level) is best -- unobstructed view, no one above us, part of...

We just returned from a week in Bermuda. Bermuda is expensive, so we chose this hotel based on price, location and reviews. This is a very nice hotel. The deluxe studio is a perfect room- large with small kitchen and nice size bathroom. The room has two little patios with a terrific view of the harbor and Hamilton. The staff were always helpful and friendly. We ate at Blu, which is a very nice restaurant connected to the hotel. The hotel has a free shuttle. The views at the restaurant are great, with service to match. For a perfect romantic dinner consider the Lido at the Elbow Hotel. We used the beach privileges that this hotel has with Coco Reef Resort, about a 5 minutes drive using the free shuttle. Easy to use and a nice beach and pool. The hotel also has a water shuttle to Hamilton that runs in the morning and late afternoon/evening. The taxi rate to Hamilton is about $10 each way. The Newstead's pool is very nice infinity pool looking onto the harbor.

This is a resort to truly enjoy and a perfect place to stage your sightseeing.

Room Tip: Opt for the deluxe studio- seem to have the best views right at the water's edge.

Bermuda is a beautiful island with some of the nicest people in the world.
The hotel is a gorgeous property with very nice and helpful staff, with delicious food in both the restaurants. Has to be one of the best hotels we have stayed at. I loved everything about our stay, loved the fantastic infinity pool, deck area and the wonderful views from the room of the harbour. The ferry across the bay was lovely but maybe Lionel would chat a little more! He did get you to the main ferries on time and that proved to be the cheapest way, it is clean and comfortable and always on time. so don't be late. Taxi was the most convenient way of getting around, however it can get expensive. A ride from Hamilton to the hotel was costing me around$10-12.
Loved the golf course very friendly staff again and a reasonable price for a buggy and clubs, played with a guy from a cruise ship and had a great game.
My only complaint would be that "a 2010 departure from the airport and an1100 checkout time" dont really go together!

This was our second stay at the Newstead, the first being back in spring 2009. Back then, we found it very beautiful and convenient (only smart hotel in Bermuda which lets you effectively self-cater with a small child), but rather badly lacking in atmosphere and service.

Although we weren't quite sure what we'd find with the business now in receivership, the Newstead seems to have got much better. The views of Hamilton harbour, the immaculate infinity pool and the excellent food (including room service) from Beau Rivage are still there, but the hotel overall seems to be more slick and more guest-orientated. There is now a lot more information about services (e.g. times of shuttles to Hamilton much more transparent), the shuttle to the beach (now Coco Reef Hotel, not the public Horsehow Bay) works much better, and above all Newstead have recruited more top-notch staff, especially in the restaurant and front desk.

It's also worth saying that the Newstead is in much better state as a property than many other 5 star hotels in Bermuda - we had meals at one or two others, and were quite taken aback at how hotels that expensive can look so horribly delapidated. It's a really elegant and relaxing place to spend a holiday, and I wish them well.

Everybody we met at the Hotel was very friendly. Loved the ferry boat captain who would shuttle us back and forth into Hamilton. The Bellman went out of his way to help us and drove us through the rain in the hotel van to get food and waited for us instead of us having to get a cab. Room had a beautiful view and the pool was perfect. I would come back again.

We stayed in Bermuda for our Honeymoon 30 years ago and made the return trip week of July 17. What a fantastic trip. The Newstead was great and very quiet. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They got every request right. The only con would be the ants that seemed to be everywhere but I believe this is common no matter where you stay. I would recommend the Newstead to couples who are looking for quiet and relaxation. If you want the crowds you can try the Fairmount Southhampton. We visited there and would not want to fight the throng.

The room was well appointed. The bar never opened during the week I was there. The restaurant was fantastic, but the service was poor. The service at the front desk also left something to be desired. I could tell they were just waiting fir their shift to end. The views were fantastic. Again, the rooms were very nice. Great kitchen, bathrooms. Comfortable furniture. Very quiet....I never heard a neighbor. I would stay there again....although for the price one would expect more courtesy from the staff. The biggest problem is that side of the harbor is dead at night and the ferry doesn't run. So if you want to go out, which I highly recommend....Front Street was nice on Friday night, you have to call a cab.
