“Amazing place!”
Reviewed September 3, 2008

This is our second year in a row staying at Granaway and once again it was a wonderful vacation. Carol and Michael are really lovely hosts. It is like visiting family and they are just delightful people. Their helper Francisco is just wonderful as well. We always look forward to breakfast while staying there and they never disappoint. Everyday it consists of fresh baked muffins, toast, eggs and fruit. Chatting with other guests during this time is a great way to start the day. It is such a nice time in the morning to share stories with everyone.
Last year we stayed in the guest cottage which was really nice. It has everything you would need to dine in if you wished while staying. Also, it has a private yard surrounded with beautiful flowers.
This year we stayed in the main house. Really, for us it was better since we never once used the kitchen in the cottage the year before and felt a little detached from everyone. Our room (the blue room) has a comfortable queen bed, large bathroom and plenty of closet space/a/c etc. They also decorate it with many personal touches reflecting Carol's great style. All the rooms come with a microwave, mini refrigerator, plates, glasses etc for making a snack if you wish. The rooms are cleaned immaculately daily when you leave for the day. You really have an amazing amount of privacy there too. Most of the time you feel as if you are in your own private residence!
The view from their veranda just off the dining room is spectacular. You overlook the Harbor and the sunsets are breathtaking. They have one of the most beautiful pools as well. it also is immaculately clean which is amazing considering the gardens and Palms hovering around it. I never have seen a speck in that pool! Also, I swear they use practically no chlorine, it seems like pure fresh water. It was only about 86 degrees too when we were there. Nice for an evening swim.
What else to sat about Granaway....we love it and adore Carol and Michael. We appreciate the history of the house and how hard they work to keep it as pristine as possible. But it is an older house. Keep that in mind, we live in one in Phila so we understand. Sometimes it is the imperfections that make it perfect. We look forward to returning for many years to come.

If you're tired of staying at hotels that all look the same and offer the same amenities, then you must stay at Granaway Guest House in Warwick, Bermuda. Carol and Michael Ashton treated us like part of their family from the moment we arrived until the time we left. Granaway is a beautiful historic home where we felt as though we were still in the 18th Century. Situated on a hill overlooking Hamilton Harbor, we experienced breathtaking views of the stunning blue harbor from the front of the house, and the lovely gardens surrounding the peaceful outdoor swimming pool from the back of the house. Breakfast was served in the gorgeous backyard garden on the many beautiful, sunny days Bermuda has to offer. However, on the occasional rainy morning, we were served breakfast in the Dining Room, which has the most amazing view of the harbor there could possibly ever be! In the Dining Room we also enjoyed dining with the other guests who were from all parts of the world. After just a few short minutes, we felt as though we'd all been life-long friends and even promised to stay in touch with each other after we left! We've been on many vacations in the past, but our stay at Granaway was the most enjoyable we've ever experienced! We will definitely stay with Michael and Carol (and Francisco, who we also adore!) the next time we go to Bermuda!

Granaway is a well located, historic home with lots of character and lush gardens. We had a great time in Bermuda and Granaway met all our needs. I was persuaded to stay here by the Tripadvisor reviews and the website pictures. Now that I've been there, I'd say the information is incomplete.

If I were a real estate agent marketing the property, I'd say it was a perfect fixer upper- great location midway between town and the best beaches, a super lot across the street from Hamilton Bay, great colonial bones and lots and lots of charm BUT it needs work. What kind of work? The gardens need cutting back, the house needs painting inside and out, windows replacing and throw in some electrical and plumbing work and you'd have a gem.

We stayed in the Cottage, which has everything you could possibly need. That said, a lot of the furnishings and amenities (except the bed, which was new) are the kind you'd pick up at a yard sale. For instance, both arms on an easy chair had been worn through to the stuffing. There has been water and moisture damage in the past that hasn't been fully repaired.

The owners are lovely people and the property has real strengths, just don't go expecting luxury or lots of spit and polish. Granaway is classified a "budget" property by Frommers and that isn't a classification I'd quarrel with.

How do I begin? We never expected our accommodations to be so perfect! When booking over the internet, you're never sure what you are going to get. Granaway Guest House exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we arrived, tired from a long flight, we were greeted by the nicest staff and family. They made us feel welcome and helped us to navigate the island. Every morning we were served a beautiful, scrumptuous and filling meal in the lovely garden. Michael and Carol Ashton went out of their way to help us plan each day so that our vacation was perfect. We highly recommend this guest house for any family vacation!

Granaway House, Bermuda.. This old house on the harbour was a nice alternative to the pricey hotels down here it was fairly comfortable but alot of things need updating i.e bathroom in general, shower, lighting ,etc.... seems its not being maintained the way it should .... we were in the royale room . nice view of the harbour. wasn't the cleanest place i ever stayed but we managed ... bed had a few miles on it but my back didn't ache in the morning .. nice pool out back very private in fact it was a bit chilly we were there in spring but in summer it would be great for a late night skinny dip with your honey ... we enjoyed our selfs here we met some very nice people .. breakfast wasn't what us americans would call a big meal every day mostly the same thing .... holy cow the same damn thing again !!!.. All the mornings it went like this first a very small mediocre fruit cup boring really wheat toast not buttered .. some form of and egg, coffee or tea.. a little variety would have been nice... french toast ??? how about pancakes? One day I think we had scones and small sausage links .. anyway the place was friendly 10 minutes to Hamilton. Overall we enjoyed it but you get what you pay for ..

We stayed here for 4 nights last week. I was told over the phone that the ferry was 5 minutes away...across the street, even...if you have been to Bermuda, you will note how narrow the roads are and walled in...you absolutely take your life into your hands to reach it. Then if you want to travel by bus, you have to make about a 20 min. walk up and down large hills the other way to reach the bus stop. This place is so isolated that once you leave for the day, you cannot return because it is too hard to do. There is not a store within 20 minutes. If you forget something, you are just plain out of luck!!!
The room was ok, but the TV something like a 17" screen, the bathroom from 1950 and the breakfast practically non-existent. Oh, I am sorry we ran out of eggs! Typical breakfast: 1 egg, small juice, coffee with MILK, very small cup of fruit and rolls. The last morning the eggs ran out and we were offered cereal! Also the pool is not heated and kind of neglected. In fact the whole place needs a lot of work, inside and out. The pictures on their website do not reflect what you will find there. I would NOT STAY HERE IF I WERE YOU, UNLESS YOU LIKE TO BE ALONE!!! and I mean REALLY ISOLATED!
