When the weather is nice, it's nice to stroll along the streets - car free. Vendors have tables set up along the street and snacks for a quick bite.

The hotel suggested that we try the weekly Wednesday night Harbour Night. "The stores are open late and there are different vendors and activities." We went, hoping to get some shopping in after dinner, and found out that stores staying open late means about 6-6:30 pm. The local vendors had a variety of things to buy like shirts, food, perfumes...mostly things that you can also find in the stores. One block off Front Street, we saw a little entertainment for kids. Many people we gathered around - not sure if they charged or not? One local said that the Monday night dock party is much better than the Wednesday Harbour Night. Harbour night seems to be quite popular. I understand that they chose Wednesday as there are usually two cruise ships in port with 8,000+ people in-season.

It's nice the City of Hamilton closes portions of Front, Queen and Reid Streets every Wednesday evening during high season for Harbour Nights. The Harbour Night crowd was a mixture of locals, tourists staying in area hotels & guest houses, and a lot of cruise ship passengers. With this opportunity to serve a crowd, I would have expected far more food and other vendors than there were. Both Front and Reid Streets had band playings that were pleasant enough to listen to and Reid Street offered a few children's activities. The most popular stop seemed to be the Dark & Stormy/Rum Swizzle sample table outside the Gosling Brothers liquor store on Front Street. A lot of folks were going back for seconds, thirds, etc. The bottom line is that it's worth a visit if you're staying in Hamilton or have the option of a ferry ride over from the Dockyard, but there's nothing special enough to warrant a special trip to Hamilton for Harbour Night.

Anytime a city closes down a street to pedestrian only traffic it is a good time and Hamilton was no exception.
It was fun to just mingle in with the crowds and be able to leisurely view the booths and shops.
My only advice would be to add some place to sit and relax. More live entertainment would also be nice.

It was nice to go see what Harbour Nights was all about. Nothing too fancy, just street vendors that sold goods and food. There was music and some dancing but nothing too much. The best part was that the stores in Hamilton stayed open late and it gave us a chance to do some shopping. We enjoyed trying Gosling's rum at their free rum tasting and buying some liquor that was very reasonable. I would only recommend going to Harbour Nights if you wanted to spend money and shop or if you had nothing else to do.
