This was our 5th trip to Bermuda but our first time staying at Royal Palms. We had no idea what we had been missing. We were greeted by one of the managers and immediately felt like we were guests in her home. The property itself is wonderful--beautiful and sparkling clean. And the included breakfast is terrific. But it's the people who work there that make Royal Palms such a special and wonderful place. During our stay, we met many employees, and every one of them seemed to act as though they owned the hotel. Everyone went out of their way to accommodate us and meet our every need. By the time we had to check out, we felt like we were leaving dear family rather than just a hotel. We loved Royal Palms so much that, at checkout, I decided to go ahead and reserve a room for next year. Yes, we fell in love with Royal Palms Hotel and the lovely people who make it so special.

Room Tip: We loved our room and did not hear anything negative about any rooms or locations

My husband and I have been to Bermuda many times and this was our first stay at The Royal Palms and we will be back!. Frankly, I had not previously been aware of the hotel, but am glad we landed on it!. We, along with a group of other friends, enjoyed a one week stay and it all started with fantastic service and communication from Sonia Whittier, who manages Reservation and the front desk. Everyone working in the hotel were exceptionally friendly, accomodating and professional.

The rooms are beautifully appointed and comfortable - everything in top notch condition - painting, crown molding, furniture. Bathrooms are large and all up to date, with a generous supply of excellent towels. My only complaint were the pillows but the staff found me others that were more my preference.

Breakfast is served on a gorgeous verandah and is included in the price of the room - serving a full complement of eggs, waffles, fruit, breads, muffins, meats & cheeses, coffee, tea, juices. John manages the breakfast room with impeccable manners and service.

The location is perfect - while not on the beach, you're only a quick taxi or bus ride away - about 10 minutes to Elbow Beach. So, you're not paying beach prices and still have access to the beach in a heartbeat. The location in Hamilton is perfect, because as a tourist in Bermuda, there is so much to see - in addition to the beaches - so you are equidistant to everything with this location and close to so many of the top notch restaurants on the island - ASCOTS is a 5 star restaurant and is right there on the property of the Royal Palms, make sure to dine there. Another fantastic restaurant a walk away in Hamilton is Bolero, and was recommended to us by the Weare's who own the hotel and said that is one of their favorites.

Hop on the ferry a few blocks away and you're over in the Dockyards (restaurants, shops, historical Commissioners House, swim with the dolphins), and from there you can take the ferry all the way across to the east end of the island to St. Georges - where you can visit Fort St. Catherine, watch the "Dunking", have lunch at a favorite sailor hang-out "The White Horse Tavern", then take the air conditioned bus home, stopping along the way the Swizzle Inn for a rum swizzle, and visit the Crystal Caves.

All in all, The Royal Palms is a beautiful facility in a fantastic location with the best service. All at a very good value (for Bermuda, which is expensive!). We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Book early & ask Sonia for her guidance.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights in the Smith Suite. The room was beautiful and comfortable. However, the best thing about the Hotel was the quality of service provided by the Staff. The ladies at the front desk; the breafast staff; the bell men; the housekeeping Staff; and even the Taxi Drivers who serviced the hotel provided exceptional service. The grounds were beautiful, with birds everywhere, and my wife and I watched a male Eastern Blue resting on a lamp post. If we go back one day, I hope we get to stay at the Royal Palms.

I travel to Bermuda every other month for work and chose to stay at the Royal Palms after being tired of the feel of corporate hotels. I was not wrong to choose the Royal Palms.

The room was of decent size and had very good amenities. Breakfast is very good too.

However, there is no wireless connection in the rooms (wired only) and there are not many things you can do at the hotel itself. It usually takes me a weekend to adjust to the time difference, which means I am up quite early in the early days of the visit. There's not much you can do except toss and turn until its time for work! The pool is just for show and walking around its not exactly given either.

Room Tip: Email and ask for offers if booking early

Dear GoodFellaRudeBoy,
We would like to thank you for your thoughtful observations about Royal Palms. We work hard to meet the needs of the professional business traveler and acknowledge that your comments are accurate. While our pool meets the needs of those looking to relax and have a leisurely swim, any attempt at laps would result in a bump on the head after half a dozen strokes!

I am pleased to report that we have been working hard on adding free wirless to the already free hard wired internet offered in every room. We had previously held the view that hard wired internet was more secure and faster than freely available wireless. Recently, we have seen that many devices no longer have ethernet ports so we are in the process of increasing our wireless coverage from the pool, gardens and lounge to all guest rooms.

At the time of writing I can report that the significant majority of rooms now have a good wireless signal and we expect to have all rooms completed in the next week or so. In addition, we have installed wireless printing capability for all iPad and iPhone users to print directly to Apples' AirPrint available in the guest lounge. We also offer ePrint for all other handheld devices to email documents to be printed to our Eprint printer available in the guest lounge.

I hope the above serves to demonstrate our keen focus on meeting the expectations of our guests and the more discerning professional 'road warrior' in particular.

If you are looking for a place that gives you access to all the restaraunts in the city of Hamilton without all the hassle of the tourists flocking to beach resorts, look no further than the royal palms! This place is amazing. It has quaint old world charm but is thoroughly modern and even feels secluded even though you are just a few minutes walk from downtown Hamilton. We stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect. The pool is perfect for lounging around reading a book and my wife and I were the only two there for 2 afternoons in a row.

The staff deserves to be commended for their attention the their guests every need. They are cordial, and extremely accomodating whether you need directions, information, recommendations or just want to chat a minute, the staff makes you feel like a local. I don't think you will find better value on the island and if you are like us and like to go to the beach on your own terms and be closer to lots of shopping and eating, then this is the place for you. We will definately be back.

By the way, elbow beach is the closest beach. It is about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop and another 10 minute ride on the bus so it is not very far at all.

This was our 5th trip to Bermuda, though the first in 8 years, and also the first NOT staying in one of the coastal resorts. I can say that we'll never stay in a resort again here -- the Royal Palms was everything the big resorts are not, including charming, inexpensive, helpful and laid-back. Read on for more:

LOCATION:
The hotel is located north of Front Street, and east of the main downtown area of Hamilton, on a quiet stretch of tree-lined street. It's within easy walking distance of a number of pubs and restaurants -- and also within a ~8 minute walk of an Oleander Cycle rental shop. Hamilton's central location on Bermuda makes this an outstanding location for touring the entire island. It's about 30 minutes from the airport and St. George, 10-12 minutes from Flats and the Aquarium & Zoo, 8-10 minutes from the Botanic Gardens and mid-south-shore beaches, and ~20-25 minutes from the showcase beaches and attractions of Southampton. (All of those times assuming a bit of exceeding the 35kph island-wide speed limit, which everyone does!) Those first arriving on the island will be looking at a ~$30 taxi ride from the airport, including tip and baggage fees.

PROPERTY:
For being in Hamilton, the Royal Palms feels like it's in an isolated tropical paradise. Rosemont Ave is residential, and the tall tropical trees and gardens shield it from the bustle of downtown. The doors and windows are all opened during the day, giving the entire hotel an airy, open feel. The large front garden is a great spot to relax over a morning cup of coffee or afternoon drink. The large patio just off the lobby also serves as the breakfast area each morning, along with some indoor salons where you can relax and plan your day over stacks of maps and brochures. In the rear of the property, a large brick patio surrounds the swimming pool, with plenty of lounge chairs and sun-shielding umbrellas available. Throughout the hotel, a number of "honor bars" are scattered, where guests can select from a number of cold drinks, and record their purchases in a register book, from which the reasonable prices will be added to their room bill.

ROOMS:
The rooms were well-appointed, spotlessly clean, and surprisingly spacious. We were upgraded to a mini-suite, which offered a full kitchenette, including a refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave and a full selection of cutlery and plates -- which came in very handy for re-heating dinner leftovers for lunch the next day! The bed was a comfortable medium-firm, and there was plenty of space to spread out one's belongings in the room. The huge closet also provided a large in-room safe, large enough to fit a 15" laptop computer. Our room also had a cushioned sitting area in a bay window overlooking the pool patio, with windows on 3-sides to catch the afternoon breezes. The only complaint we had was the shower, whose poor water pressure made removing the grime of an island day a bit difficult -- though while unfortunate, was not entirely unexpected on an island with no natural freshwater sources, that is currently under drought conditions!

AMENITIES:
In addition to the room features, there was free WiFi internet available in the rooms -- signal was a bit on the weak side, but the Internet was fine for most purposes. There is plenty of free cycle/scooter parking on the property (in case you're unaware, tourists are forbidden to rent cars on Bermuda, so it's a scooter or taxi for you!) Ascot's restaurant is on-property, which is one of the better-rated restaurants on the entirety of Bermuda. The food for dinner was truly excellent and the service was impeccable, but that all comes at a cost -- even by island standards, Ascot's is quite expensive, and the prices on the wine list will blow your glasses right off your head for even low-end bottles, making the restaurant a special-occasion destination only.

STAFF:
I'm not sure I can say enough good things about the Royal Palms' staff. Rarely have we encountered a group of people as friendly or outgoing, who go out of their way to help their guests with any need, large or small. From directions and dining recommendations, to organizing activities and events -- even the "little" things like storing luggage and letting us change clothes (or shower, if we wished) in the office bathroom on the afternoon before our flight home, long after check-out time. The excellence of this hotel is very much driven by the quality of their staff, and we can't thank them enough for making our stay a memorable one!

HINTS:
Upon arrival, check with the staff about what cruise ships are on the island, if any, during your stay. While the "cruise economy" is vital to Bermuda, land-based tourists would do well to schedule visits to St. George, the Dock Yards, and many of the more popular tourist spots _away_ from when the ship tourists will be there. Prices go up, availability goes down, and it's just generally not as much fun to try and relax during an island getaway while busloads of visitors-on-a-schedule are shuffling around you.

Overall, we had a spectacular stay at the Royal Palms, and will absolutely stay there again. For location, price and service, it would be tough to beat the quality of this property anywhere on Earth. If you can bear to rent a scooter and be a few minutes from the beach, the Royal Palms will beat any of Bermuda's resort properties for a relaxing island vacation, hands-down.
