“A Wonderful Week at the Rosedon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

I booked a week at the Rosedon for my husband as a surprise to celebrate a special birthday. I had read the reviews but I was still a bit concerned as I wanted to make sure that the trip really did have the wow factor. I am very happy to report that the Rosedon and Bermuda in general did not disappoint.
We were warmly greeted at the hotel when we arrived and this set the tone for the rest of our stay. I had booked a double luxury room and we both agreed that it was very well furnished, spacious and spotlessly clean. Our package included champagne on arrival and some trips to top attractions. It encouraged us to go out (on a moped which was great fun) and see places perhaps we wouldn't have visited otherwise.
We chose to have our breakfasts either by the pool or on the balcony outside our room. The cooked breakfasts were a wonderful treat each day. We had afternoon tea a couple of times and it was very enjoyable too. The selection of sandwiches, cakes and biscuits varied each day.
The location of the Rosedon is ideal especially as it was our first trip to Bermuda. It was just a few minutes to walk into the centre of Hamilton. Most evenings we would wander into Hamilton for dinner or drinks.
One of the main advantages of staying at a smaller hotel is the personal touches. The staff at the Rosedon are some of the most friendly, courteous and helpful people we have encountered.
We would definitely return to Bermuda and we wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Rosedon again.

When we are vacation last year in Bermuda we stayed at the Fairmount Hamilton Princess and noticed (& admired) the Rosedon Hotel every time we left the Princess property. This year when we went back we decided to try the Rosedon and it did not disappoint. We ate breakfast every morning on the big front porch of the main house (you could also have it in your room, outside your room or poolside.) We also enjoyed the afternoon tea every day with yummy finger sandwiches and a different kind of cake each day. I had mentioned when I made the reservation that we were celebrating our 25th wedding annviersary and they had a chilled bottle of champagne in our room upon arrival. The grounds of the property were just gorgeous and it was like you were in your own little tropical paradise. We walked over to the Princess several times for dinner, happy hour, etc and also walked downtown to Front St. I loved the convenience of the location and the ability to take advantage of the Princess across the street. It was the best of both worlds.

We stayed at the Rosedon Hotel for six nights in July/August and were very pleased. The luxury room was very large and well furnished and included a refrigerator and even a towel warmer. The swimming pool was delightful. We also enjoyed the “room service” breakfast, afternoon tea, as well as the shuttle ride to Elbow beach. The location was very convenient. We were close to restaurants, the bus station, a supermarket, and the ferry. The employees and the hotel manager were very friendly and helpful. We also met one of the owners of the hotel at the afternoon tea and he was also very friendly. We plan to stay again at this hotel. On a scale of 1 to 10, we would rate it a 9+. We found this hotel on Expedia. This was our first experience with Expedia and we were very pleased with the service: We made our hotel and airplane reservations on Expedia.

Room Tip: We liked our room, #65. We were on the second floor with a view of the swimming pool and grounds.

My husband and I spent a week at the Rosedon for our honeymoon at the end of July. The location was great, we walked everywhere, it's minutes from downtown, lots of restaurants and the bus and ferry terminal (we used both, very easy to use and the bus drivers are very friendly, they would stop at a particular spot for us since we did not know when to press the button). The staff are amazing at the Rosedon.. everything you read on here is true. The ladies at the front desk were so kind, and so accomodating. We made serveral reservations through them and they were more than happy to help and offer suggestions! The rest of the staff were just as friendly! Always a hello when you passed them by on the property. The room was clean, modern, comfortable and inviting! The towels are refreshed twice a day. We only spent about an hour or two by the pool (we're not much to lay around for hours) but it was nice, quiet and relaxing! We brought down a drink and it was lovely. They have an honor system at the bar and the prices are VERY reasonable. We bought beer and water the most! :) There's also a computer in the main house you can use to access the internet for short periods of time. There is free wi-fi too in the rooms but we intentionally left our laptop at home so we wouldn't get too distracted ;)

Breakfast every morning was delicous, we loved having it delivered to our room! I loved the selection every morning, unless you're an extrememly picky eater, you'll enjoy it :) We enjoyed bacon, eggs, waffles, french toast and pancakes throughout the week. There is a little food place called the Buzz not far from the hotel where we stopped a few times to get frappacinos, milk shakes and panini's from, it was great and convenient! There is no restaurant on site, but they have sandwiches and tea everyday at 4:00 pm.. we enjoyed having a little bit before we headed for supper in the evening. We dined at a couple of the Italian restaurants, The Pickled Onion and took the bus to The Waterlot for a fancy steak dinner one night.. very nice, but pricey. We would definitely go back again though! There's a grocery store in Hamilton, we visited that and the liquor store. Prices in the grocery store are more than what we pay in Canada, but we just bought a few things for the room.

The only downside if you will about Hamilton is that with the exception of Wednesday nights (where they have Harbour Night, a street festival downtown), everything shuts down early and there isn't much to do. Unless we had supper reservations we just hung around the room. I like to be on the go so this slowed me down a bit haha! So it's definitely quiet after about 5:30pm.

There is a shuttle to Elbow beach every day and the beach is beautiful. You can rent umbrellas and chairs for $10 each, well worth it! I really enjoyed the beach, it was beautiful, water was a perfect temp (not too warm!) and it wasn't too crowded! I found a lot of the tourists went to Horseshoe Bay.. very crowded! We went to the beach twice and it was a real treat! We also went on a snorkling trip, we booked that through a tour company, it was great! 3 hour boat and snorkling ride, and there was a glass bottom so we went out by the ship reck and saw that and lots of fish/coral. We also visited the aquarium, the crystal caves (Swizzle Inn is a must for good food and rum swizzles!), the dock yard and St. Georges.

All in all, we had a lovely time in Bermuda and would highly recommend the Rosedon. If you're into a high paced environment then Bermuda may not be the place for you. We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality, scenery and warm weather. Everything was very clean and all people were friendly! We felt very safe and truly enjoyed it all. The island is small, but it's heart is big. We're hoping to return to the Rosedon in the future. Thanks again for everything!!!

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor in the building behind the pool, had a king sized bed. Very nice :)

As others have stated, the service at the Rosedon is second to none. Everyone seemed willing to help us have a pleasant stay. We loved Chris who was always smiling and helpful. All the ladies at the front desk had quick answers to our questions and were a delight to speak to.

We loved the morning breakfasts. The gardens on the grounds were beautiful. The twice-a-day shuttle trips to Elbow beach were a nice amenity.

Our favorite beach to snorkel was at Tobacco Bay. Loved the fish and warm water temperatures in late July. Church Bay was just too difficult for us to enter the water due to the rocks and short sandy beach.

About a 10+ minute walk into the commercial part of the city of Hamilton. We were on a limited budget but we could find good dinner options from $20-30 each.

My wife and I stayed for two nights in late July. The location is very close to Hamilton (easy walking) and the service was great. Tuesday night swizzles and heavy hors d'oeuvres really can take the place of a meal. The staff was extremely attentive and having breakfast brought to you on porch outside your room is a great way to start the day. My only comment - the staff folks seemed to have more reasons to need to come in to the room than in other resorts, use your "do not disturb " sign often or you may get a significant surprise...

We recently spent four days at the Rosedon in Hamilton. We thoroughly enjoyed the complete experience. We particularly appreciated the efforts put forth by Jennifer, Sissy and Gerald. The entire staff makes you really feel at home. The room was everything we could want...comfortable and very clean.

Breakfast each day was delightful. We chose to have ours at the table outside our room. It was perfect for us...very private and comfortable. The shuttle to Elbow Beach worked out well for us. Rent your beach chairs and umbrella from Richard. He is an institution at the beach. Have a drink at Mickey's at the Elbow Beach Club...take your credit card!

We also took the bus to St. George's one day and went swimming at Tobacco Bay. It was a day well-spent for both sightseeing and for beach time. There is a nice little beach bar at Tobacco Bay...no hard drinks but they have beer, sodas and hard lemonade. The views at Tobacco Bay are stunning.

Great eating in Hamilton...it is expensive. Fortunately, we found that we did get good quality for the money paid. We dined twice at the Barracuda Grill. This is a must for some really good fish. We recommend the Bermuda Rockfish, in particular. Portofino is a very good Italian restaurant that will give your wallet a little bit of a break. We had pub food at the Hog Penny...fun, basic fare. The Bermuda Fish Chowder there is a MUST...very tasty.

The weather was warm, the water clean, clear and perfect temperature. Snorkeling is great many places on the island. This is an easy place for travel from the East Coast. We hope to return as soon as possible.

Room Tip: Rooms in old house are very nice. We stayed on top floor overlooking the pool. Rooms 54, 55, 56 al...
