The Hog Penny certainly has a cosy and intimate atmosphere. It is quite small, so subsequently the dining tables are quite close together. Although it does have the ambience of an English pub the food is far better than pub grub! The meal we had was very nice and the quality was excellent. It was obvious on tasting that it was fresh and not the usual 'deep fried' or 'microwaved' fast food usually associated with pubs. The wine list was quite a bit expensive and the cheaper house wines were off the menu, so the final bill was a a bit more expensive than usual. So to summarise: if you want a great meal (of a standard associated usually associated with a restaurant), but prefer 'no frills' and eating in a pub, then this is the place for you!
