Steeped in local history...the Bermuda experience begins here....Towne Crier; reenactments of public punishment. Banks, restaurants, bars; pull up to the dock on the Square in your rented boat. Just off the Square, literally yards away...find St. Peter's Church...2 mins more and there's Somers Garden. 5 mins walk and you chance upon the Unfinished Church. St. Georges is definitely the place to begin the Bermuda experience.

The central point in olde towne St.Georges is highlighted by the colonial era stocks where private offenses were punished in public. There are a few eateries here, a bank, and some shops. It is mostly just a quiet spot to sit on a park bench and watch the other tourists.

Right in the middle of St. Georges, is the King's Square. There are a number of small stores, restaurants, and sights like the Town Hall right along the square. You can stop for the obligatory tourist photo of yourself and another in the stockade.

Excursion was booked through Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas in Bermuda to snorkel and kayak. Excursion boat picked us up at the dock next to the ship (2 minute walk) for a leisurely ride out to the snorkeling spot. One of the guides described the areas as we passed - including a discussion of Bermuda, its people and its history. Not much instruction but operator was willing to help any first timers. Sea was calm and water was shallow and clear. Not much of a beach as it was mainly limestone rocks and a little sand. Perfect opportunity for a first time snorkeler! Coral rose from the bottom to nearly the top of the water. Sea bottom was primarily grass and sand. Lots of fish and coral to see. Operator had 5 or 6 kayaks for the people that did not snorkel.
