It is one of the most popular beaches in Bermuda. However,it is quite small and crowded. There is a bar right on the beach which also sells/rents snorkeling equipment. The waters are calm, unlike on the south shore. It is about a 20-25 walk from St George's City Hall. However, there are a lot of taxis willing to take you there from the town.

We go to Bermuda every two years. One of the first stops we make is to Tobacco Bay. HUGH Queen Parrot fish, great Angel Fish and a million Sergeant Majors! Hope the construction going on at the old Club Med site doesn't ruin this precious spot.

Tobacco Bay Beach is found north of St. George after a short walk up and over the hill separating the north shore from the town.. It is on a small protected cove. You will find food and rentals there.

My husband and I just got back from a trip to Bermuda. On Sunday, we decided to take the bus into St. George and go to Tobacco Bay to snorkel. We had forgotten our equipment at home and planned to rent two sets at the shop there. We arrived around noon and the man at the counter informed us that he was not renting any more snorkel sets and was closing in 30 minutes since another rain storm was coming. We were very disappointed but decided to enjoy the water anyway. As we were swimming, more and more people began arriving and the shop did not close "in 30 minutes". In fact, we left about 2+ hours later and the shop was still open. We didn't go back to ask about snorkeling again since we figured they must not want our money. I too noticed the ants that another reviewer mentioned. On the bus ride home, I kept finding them on my things.

I am not sure if I would return to this beach again. It was okay but there are better/prettier beaches on the island.

If you decide to take the bus into St. George and walk to the beach, be sure you wear good walking shoes and are in good physical condition. The beach is quite far from where the bus stop is and most of it is either up or down hill (depending on which direction you're headed).

We arrived in Bermuda on a ship so getting to this amazing beach takes a bit of time but so worth it.
We took the ferry to St Georges which is a very pretty ride & a very short walk from our ship. When in St. George we took a taxi which was only $4.
This is a small beach & has a bar, good facilities & all the rentals you will need.
Great for all ages but on the day we were there not much snorkeling.....Calm waters.
The only problem is at the end of the day there are a lack of taxis & being it was our last day & we had to be back on the ship I was very nervous.
We ended up taking a ride from a local & they charged us $4 (this was recommended by the manager of the shop, something I never would have expected to do elsewhere).
The beach also had a few chickens & we found some beach glass so it was just a great day......Can't wait to be back!
