“Almost Like Home”
Reviewed May 5, 2007

This was our 9th trip to Aruba and our 6th to Bucuti - once we discovered this chic, quiet resort we were hooked.
This resort offers quiet relaxation and a personal touch - staffers remembered our names even on our 1st visit, and we now feel at home when we stay. The fact that there is a minimum turn-around of workers certainly says something for management. We have always stayed in a superior room ; they are good-sized with frig, coffeemaker, and microwave, and we have been more than comfortable. All rooms have been renovated recently and are crisp and clean. Everyone on the staff has been courteous and friendly and we have always found that them to go out of their way to accomodate us.
We always feel very safe on Aruba, which is why we seem to keep returning; we have visited many other islands and have not found one yet that measures up to Aruba's weather, food, safe drinking water, friendliness and relaxation. There are lots of palapas and chaises, so we can always find a shady place on the beach no matter what time of day it is - not like other resorts that required a trip to the beach at 5am to claim a couple of chaises. There are so many restaurant choices that we have yet to get to all - highly recommend Madame Janette, Chalet Swisse & Flying Fishbones (although these two are quite pricey!), Smokey Joe's (great ribs!), Gasparito, Que Pasa, and French Steakhouse (Ambassador's 4-Course Dinner for $32.95/pp - great food/good deal). There are lots of choices for activities too if you are the active type - kayaking, snorkeling, scuba, party boats, etc.
Can't wait til our next trip to Bucuti----only 350 days!!

My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon (4/23-4/29/07) in Aruba. We stayed at the Bucuti beach resort in the Tara Suites, and I must say, it was a wonderful experience. We both decided on this particular resort, based solely on the reviews and pictures that we found here on trip Advisor....so I thought it was only fair, that I make a contribution that will hopefully help anyone else considering this awesome destination. Forgive me, if this review runs a little long, but i'd like to include as much as possible, while it's all still fresh in my mind. I will also be including many pictures, because that is the one thing many reviews are lacking...not enough pics!

First off , the island of Aruba is beautiful. But not in the typical sense. If you're expecting the island to look like "Lost" with lush tropical forests, book a trip to kuai instead. The island looks more like a dessert, with large boulder filled hillsides and cactus growing everywhere. It's strange to see cactus and palm trees growing together, right next to a beach. (But beautiful nonetheless) The people of Aruba are a beautiful melting pot of different cultures, and they speak 4 languages (luckily one of them is english) We met many dutch, columbian, indian, filipino, chinese, korean, french, german people...all were extremely friendly and helpful. I can't say enough good things about this island, it's spirit, and it's people. Definitely one happy island.

Okay, on with the review of the Bucuti beach resort. We booked a weeks stay at the tara suites directly through the hotel's website, and the entire stay was wonderful. I know a few people have left negative reviews, and for the life of me, can't figure out how they would let a few nit picky things ruin their time.

The grounds of the resort are beautiful and well manicured. The grass is soft as carpet and the beach sand is a fine powder. The water on the beach is a wonderful aqua blue color and very relaxing. The hotel itself has very modern furniture and decor. Anyone who shops at Ikea, West Elm, or Bo Concept will love it. All the furniture has a Wenge stain, and the rooms are very well appointed. We had a small kitchen in our suite with a fridge, microwave, and cabinets (stocked with plates, silverware, and glassware) I would recommend going to supermarket or the hung king market and buying groceries on your first day. The supermarket is about 5 minutes away, driving back towards downtown. Our room also had 2 tv's, a small living room, an electronic safe, ironing board, and nice sized bathroom. I know that some people stated that they couldn't get their water to be very hot, but I think that was operator error. I was able to get my water to the point of scalding hot and had to turn it down, heheh.. (If you are looking at the shower control, turn the big lever all the way to the hot setting, then push the small knob in the middle IN and turn it counter clockwise. This will the double the heat of the water in the shower)

The concierge staff was VERY FRIENDLY and waited on our every request. They promptly booked all our dinner reservations throughout the week, and sent a confirmation letter for each reservation to our room. (I highly recommend the flying fishbone. Request a table by the water around sunset! A truly awesome dining experience. Also, Madame Janettes and Le Dome were good as well.... Also available here in florida, but I still loved it was Texas de Brazil. The best assortment of meats! I love that place) They also sent a nice honeymoon gift basket with a balloon, champagne, gouda cheese, crackers and chocolate. A nice touch. They also provided custom champagne glasses that had our names etched on them, a very nice keepsake....as well as two bucuti t-shirts. They also took us out to the grounds and took our picture, and sent it to my home address as a keepsake as well.

If i had to find one weakness in this resort, it would be the pirates nest restaurant. It just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the resort. It is for the most part, and outdoor dining experience. I wouldn't recommend it for breakfast, because when you're outside, flies can come around and bother you. We ate breakfast in the tara suites lounge every morning and found it more than adequate. (continental breakfast w/ cold meats, fruits & cheeses....pastries, baqels, and crossoints)

We did however have the romantic dinner for two at the pirates next, which puts you in your own private hut on the beach for dinner. That was actually a great experience and the food was pretty good. I had the grouper and my wife had the beef tenderloin. It wasn't exquisite dining, but the overall experience of dining on the beach at night was great, and our server was very attentive without being overly interruptive.

I worked out twice in the fitness center when I was there. It's basically a big hut with a few cardio machines, a weight bench, and also a multi-use weight machine with cables and weights. It was more than adequate for a nice workout. It's not air conditioned but for some reason it was never overly hot in there. It's pretty open to the island breeze and Drinks and clean towels are provided.

The pool was nearly completed when we were there. They were missing just a few floor tiles, but we still took a dip, and it was very refreshing. It looked great, but still needs to be finished. The water in the beach though, is nearly as clear as the pool! Which by the way, as stated by many earlier, we never had a problem finding a palapas (beach umbrella w/ chairs) and whenever we went swimming in the beach, there was never anyone close to us. (So it felt like we were swimming in our own private beach)

The location of the Bucuti resort was perfect. For us, it was right in the middle of everything. Located next to the hotel is Pizza bob's, subway, Dushi bagels, and a new sushi bar that is still being built right in front. A small drive north would lead us to the high rise section (big hotels, lots of dining). A very short drive south (5-10min.) leads you to the downtown area where you can check out all the markets and shopping malls. We rented a suzuki vatara for 3 days ($160) and it was definitely worth every penny. I wish we had rented it the whole time we were there! We took that lil suv everywhere! There are basically NO street signs in aruba, so make sure you grab one of those travel brochures that have the map inside. Once you have the map, findind your way around is easy. The traffic is relaxed and if you get lost, don't fret...it doesn't take long to find your way back. You can go from one end of the island to the other in an hour or less...on the main roads that is. All the little side streets and dirt roads are fun to explore though, as we found many lilttle hidden beaches. A great adventure.

Speaking of adventures, We went on the ATV tour that went to the natural pool. It was the most fun I've had in a long time! Super twisty trails going up and down mountain sides and along ocean side cliffs. Breathtaking, But not for the faint of heart. But then again, I ride motorcycles...and we had a private tour guide and we were both riding at a fast pace. Definitely check it out if you want excitement and site seeing in one.

If you've made it this far into my review, and haven't fallen asleep, I suspect you may be seriously considering going to the Bucuti. I Highly recommend this wonderful gem of a resort. It is beautiful, inside and out. A wonderful staff. Calm & relaxing atmosphere. Very quiet. A definite must for honeymooners and couples looking for a romantic getaway. If you're looking for a place with a little more excitement, check out the hyatt in the high rise area. It's a wonderful hotel as well, but total opposite side of the spectrum.

whatever you decide, go visit Aruba. It was wonderful.

First trip to the Bucuti Beach hotel.Recommended by 2 friends.
We are a mature gay male couple and found the hotel to be perfect,
It was small and casual but with 4 star standards and cleanliness.Continental breakfast included which wa fine and could be taken in the Pirates Nest Restaurant or in the lounge in the Tara suites ,which we preferred
We had ground floor room with2 large beds, all the rooms had been recently remodelled,
The swimming pool was undergoing refurbishment but could be used.
Location perfect on a quiet beach but if youneeded nightlife or eating places they were easilyaccessible with a short journey by bus or taxi.
Aruba seemed a very safe place and we found the locals to be very friendly.Lots of eating places ranging from casual to exclusive. Our favorite was the seafood buffet in the Rennaissance hotel downtown.
Will certainly return as only had 8 nights there and this was not enough time to do everything Aruba has to offer

We stayed in the Tara Suites at the Bucuti for a week in May 2006. The suites were beautiful and are oceanfront with large balconies. Consierge service was wonderful. The rooms were clean, the employees friendly and helpful. Our only complaint was the pool which was very old and rundown. We are ocean people so it didn't really make a difference to us. During this past year they put a new pool in, right in time for our next visit, May 2007. Bucuti has the most beautiful beach; deep and empty. There was never a problem getting a hut. There were no crowds on the beach, and no children running around making noise. This is not a family resort. It is a romantic, quiet, wonderful place to spend time with a partner. There is a casino within walking distance. There are a few restaurants within walking distance as well. We would highly recommend it.

When taking a vacation we usually rely on TripAdvisor reviews so fe weel it is really important to write this about Bucuti - dissapointing and not worth the money!
The location of the hotel is great because of the nicest beach on the island, but there are at least five or six small hotels right next to it!
The staff is so unprofessional and not caring that you feel like in a hostel a not a hotel with relatively high prices. The hotel restaurant Pirates nest is absolutely horrible; the choice of is very poor, the birds keep flying into your food as everything is on the open, the plastic dishes are cantene like and old, the staff is acting like you are their buddy and making unappropriate comments (one day a bird flew into my cereal and I didn't want to eat it any more, and one of the staff made a comment how I am wasting food and what is the problem if a bird flew in??).
The only good thing was the beach but as already mentioned, there are several hotels right next to it so take any but Bucuti.
I really hope that the Management will do something about the staff and service or at least cut the prices by half, because right now you feel really ripped off after a stay there.

The trip to Aruba was a last minute get away.
We chose a Jet Blue destination. My husband found this gem of a hotel thru Trip Advisor. Thank you, Thank you.
The Bucuti from beginning of stay to end was perfect. We stayed in the Tara Suites. Beautiful room. Simple and clean decor. Room overlooks the beach and the water. Concierge staff is extremely helpful and take care of all arrangements. Breakfast is Continental and very fresh. Staff is incredibly friendly.
This is truly a special hotel in the middle of the big names and the time shares.
We enjoyed our stay so much we booked our Xmas 2007 vacation and are inviting our adult children to experience Aruba with us.

Spent five nights at the Tara Suites at Bucuti on our first trip to Aruba last month. We chose it over a high-rise recommended by our travel agent as a result of (1) quiet, (2) few if any kids (they actually discourage bringing kids), (3) great large beach with plenty of huts to sit under, (4) great rooms, (5) environmentally friendly, and most of all (6) great and consistent reviews by travelers). Everything in the entire resort was clean and well maintained, and the staff could not have been any more helpful. The beach is absolutely lovely, as nice as any we've been on in Hawaii. They booked a car, dinner reservations and such while we were there. On the first night we had their "romantic dinner" on the beach. More than two hours of relaxed courses away from the main dining. What a great way to start a vacation. My wife and I feel it was one of the two best meals we had on vacation (the other being at the Flying Fishbone). Happy hour is half-priced drinks, served at the outside bar or beach service by putting up your flag. For our anniversary they surprised us with champagne, crackers and cheese when we returned from the beach.

This is a definite "find" and we'd give it five stars without hesitation. IF we had to find something negative at all, it would only be that the pool is small and was partially under construction (we don't typically use a pool anyway), and the continental breakfasts are the same daily and fair but not spectacular. If you want eggs, it's extra, but we can have eggs at home anytime. They do give you the choice of inside the lobby at the Tara Suites or outside at the Pirate's Nest. We did both during our stay.

We rented am SUV for three days and used it to explore the island. Red Sail Sports did a nice sunset dinner catamaran cruise from the Hyatt on Wednesday nights. Very nicely done, with good food, flowing drinks and dancing. The casinos are nothing to write home about. Did like the local Balashi beer.
