January 2010--

Scheduled Weeks two and three.

Week One--- In Old time Share Tower Unit 401 One Bedroom unit.

Oldest unit in the resort. Had no problems checking in, and was very happy to see the friendly staff at the front desk: Avril, Keisha, Gloria, Aurita, Rosy, and others who were very kind to us and from whom I learned a lot of Papiamento. The new lobby and surrounding grounds are beautiful and the new pools, restaurant and swim- up bar are great. Daily activities on site are well planned, with something to do for everyone. There were some upgrades to our unit, in the bedroom and deck area. Unfortunately, after day two, we had condensation dripping from the ceiling Air Conditioning system in the hallway between our bedroom and the bathroom, which could not be fixed after a couple days and calls to maintenance and the front desk. We wanted to give them every reasonable opportunity to fix the problem, but after the third maintenance call, we were offered an opportunity to be moved into the new building for the balance of our stay. I think more attention needs to be given to the older timeshare units, especially since the new units are finished, to bring the old units close to the same level as the newer units, especially in the kitchen and bathroom areas.

Week Two--- Moved in New Timeshare Tower Room 483, One Bedroom Unit.

Fantastically beautiful and cleaner than the old timeshare unit we left. Updated kitchen with dishwasher with island counter, jacuzzi in one bathroom, wide showers, and single unit washer/dryer. Nice view of the pool area and restaurant from our deck. Wish we could this unit again next year, but we will be back to our old unit. I am sure it will be in better shape for us next time.

Favorite Restaurants:

Chalet Suisse. The Chateaubriand for two is not to be missed. Great Service. Reservations are a must! It gets very busy late.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse-- Sad disappointment. 2 orders out of 4 from our table sent back, one overcooked, [ Portabello Mushroom entree] one undercooked, {Fillet Mignon-medium well]. No compensation, no apology or offer to fix the mistake. They are resting on their past laurels. Take it or leave it oblivious attitude of staff is discouraging.

Gianni's Restaurant- Excellent Italian food. Great service, and very kind and accommodating staff. Veal items were delicious, and well prepared.

Hooters- Decent food, reasonable prices, friendly staff, but the quality of some food items is slipping, especially on boneless chicken wings.

Sunset Beach Restaurant--Divi Phoenix Great on the beach dining experience. Reservations are a must, especially at sunset. Go on the Special Lobster night, lobster out of the shell and surf and turf are highly recommended.

Hard Rock Cafe- Fun place, with great food and music. Ate there three times, Salads, Burgers, and Quesedillas are great.

Casinos- Pretty tight for us.

Favorites: Hyatt, ( Catherine and Henry we very nice to us, as well as Gregory.) Crystal, ( Janice and Richelle on the staff really welcomed us back. )
Airport Departure Casino new for us.

We lost more than we won, but we had a fun time at the above places.

Attractions: Butterfly Farm, Downtown Oranjestad, Fort Zoutman, Tuesday Bon Bini Festival, Alto Vista chapel.

We cannot wait until next year to return.

Stayed in the new section of the Divi Phoenix after reading the positive reviews. We've never been to Aruba so we didn't know what to expect. We were glad we chose the Divi. It's at the very beginning of the "high rise" area and in my opinion, the nicest beach. As you walk down towards the other, more populated hotels the beaches get more and more crowded. Never felt that way at the Divi. The room was great. Made good use of the kitchen and to have a separate bedroom as well as 2 bathrooms (one with a jacuzzi bath) was wonderful. Overall, the staff was friendly, food at the "Pure Beach" restaurant was good. Pretty nice health club to work out in. A short walk to a few restaurants and about $10 for a cab into town. (Bus is $1.50 and stops right in front of hotel)
Rented a jeep for a day and that was perfect for seeing the other side of the island.
Would definitely stay here again if we went back.

When we arrived at the Divi Phoenix, the lady who checked us in was not very friendly at all and we were left wondering around to find our building. We finally ask some other guest and they showed us to our building. First impression very nice. But they do have a lot of things to work out. We ended up having an ant problem in the bathroom. Housekeeping was horriable. They would change the sheets and give fresh towels but never actually cleaned out room. The maintence people never cleaned up the ignuna poop around the pool. The actually Resort is nice but they need to hire more staff.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel, when the construction is complete it will be an Amazing hotel! Stayed for a week from housekeeping, front desk, bartenders, waiters nothing bad to say about anyone! I can't wait to return to see the completion of the new lobby! Great job Divi you've done an amazing job with this hotel. Great location can walk everywhere on the beach walk. Our room was in the tower we had a beautiful view and would go back in a seconds notice.

When we checked in we were told we were in building B & sent in that direction with no assistance. We wandered around for about 5 min looking for a sign to give direction yo either building B or to an elevator couldn't find one sign to assist us. After dragging our luggage around we finally found an employee & asked him where the elevator was located,he sent us towards the pool where a guest pointed us in the right direction. The next problems were found in the studio 1) shower head kept falling off wall. 2( shut off on shower sprayer did not work. 3) shower door would not shut tight floor would get soaked. 4) toilet paper holder broken. 5) ceiling fan & lite would go on & off on their own probably from nieghbors remote. 6) no hot water. 7) rodents ate bagels & rolls on counter. A nice relaxing vacation resort once they get the bugs out.
