My husband and I visited the Divi Phoenix March 22-28 and had a really nice time. My parents gave us a week of their time share as part of our wedding gift and we swapped out their Cape Cod location for Aruba. We were thrilled to actually find an open resort in Aruba so we didn't really care where we were staying. Here's our review.
Hotel is going through construction. This information will be given to you when you book so there shouldn't be any big surprises. Construction was almost completed when we visited. There was evidence of the work going on but it in no way disturbed our vacation. We stayed in the older rooms in the Tower. Rooms were older but clean. Bed was comfy. Stayed on the 14th floor so the view was amazing. Grounds were clean and well maintained. Everyone was really friend (minus the front desk...there were a little attitudy so some reason). The food was yummy and happy hours were 3 hours long. Resort is dead by 9:30...absolutely no night life to talk of. We enjoyed ourselves because we were on vacation in Aruba...why complain?!?
For some reason the weather wasn't all that I thought it would be. People aren't kidding when they talk about the trade winds. They are strong!!! If the sun wasn't blazing then it was a little chilly if you were wet...but then you would end up burnt at the end of the day....weird.
As for activities we did the Kooku Kunuku Party Bus, Jolly Pirates Sun, Snorkel, and Swing trip, and we rented a Jeep for a day. Kooku Kunuku was so much fun! Highly recommended. Will do again if we go back. Jolly Pirates was fun as well. You're actually on a "pirate ship" and that sucker really goes with the waves. If you have any inclinations to sea sickness DO NOT GO! There were a couple people having a really baaaddddd day. Get a Jeep...you won't regret it. Half of Aruba is practically desert and it's fun to go 4 wheeling at your own pace. A visit to Baby Beach is a must.
Hope this review helped in making your decision. Divi Phoenix was a smaller sized 3 1/2 star hotel on a really nice beach...IN ARUBA! Go there with a positive attitude and you'll have a good time.

My husband and I travel to the Carribean once a year. This was our first trip to Aruba. We arrived in rainy weather and were greeted by not so friendly people at the Resort. Our room was located in the new building RM #622. Vey nice room. However, we found a pizza box on the side of the bed and pizza sauce on the comforter! Gross. We needed toilet paper and called the front desk @ 8 AM, we were told to call housekeeping when they open at 9 AM. My husband went to the front desk to ask for it in person and was told the same thing. We had to wait until 9 AM. Forget trying to get help from the girl at the Concierge desk. We booked our own excursions from brochures. Lots of construction and noise! Not enough lighting on the boardwalk. A little scary walking it at night until you reach the next resort and then the lighting is much better.

We were booked to stay for 2 weeks jan3 -17 2009 at the new beach villas at divi phoenix, but upon showing up there is major construction still on going rooms are not finished or hallways ,pool, restaurant. will not be done for many many months ended up being moved to another resort. 1 bedroom unit is very small once complete I am sure these units will be lovely. but give it a good 6 months at least. see photos of construction

I can't complain beautiful location and it wasn't overcrowed. You could aways grab a palpa. The new construction will be finished soon and then they will have a swim up bar. This isn't the Ritz but if you go expecting the basic's and have an open mind then you won't be disappointed. The only problem we had while we were there was no hot water for 5 days but it is Aruba so the water wasn't freezing it just never got real hot. Real friendly island this was our second trip. We might be going back in May.

My 50th birthday and our 25th wedding anniversary. our room was perfect. 14th floor with beach/sunset view. the staff was friendly and helpful. they helped us book a scuba trip, rent a 4-wheel jeep, gave excellent directions to anywhere we wanted to go, checked current airline status. We chose this over an all-inclusive because we wanted to be freed up to do things all over the island. If you are adventurous and want to explore all the island has to offer, this is perfect. The kitchenette in the room was a great convenience and helped save money for trying different restaurants. the local supermarket offered fabulous beef and local traditional foods . I would stay here again
