Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort
Ranked #14 of 24 Hotels in Palm - Eagle Beach
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 6, 2014 via mobile

Villas are old and need updating as well as the larger tower. Beach towers are very nice and newer. Everyone was very friendly and the pools inviting as the beach was mostly a sandstorm no fault of the hotel. Overall really nice time.
Pros- location,friendly staff, beach tower
Cons- food could use a tweak for flavor but not bad. Pool cabana reserve system needs to go away.

My partner and I are looking for a hotel in Aruba for a very special event. That’s why we were in Aruba 8 weeks ago. Divi Phoenix was recommended to us on the last day of our first stay. Since we had no more time, we had to come back to Aruba.

Although this hotel is in the high-rise area, it doesn’t feel like it. That’s because it’s the first hotel on the strip, so slightly away from all the action and the hotel itself isn’t as high as all the others.
We appreciated the evening walks to all the restaurants and bars nearby but were always happy to be back to the tranquility of this resort.

The check-in process was friendly and smooth. The reception area is modern and inviting. The rooms are very big and spacious and because this hotel also offers timeshare, each room has a fully equipped kitchen.
The breakfast was nice but I would not book it again. The price is to high considering that a bagel and a take away coffee from the hotels own DELI would have been enough. We really appreciated the DELI. It offers drinks and snacks all day long, additionally to the shop in the reception area. There are also two very good restaurants where we ate at both during our stay.
The beach area is great. The calm waters are lovely. The beach never felt crowded and we always got a palapa.
There is also a huge pool area which is wonderful if you are traveling with kids.

Our overall stay was very pleasant. There are small things here and there that need improvement but the price value here is perfect.
The staff is wonderful and although this hotel has over 200 rooms, they remember you, your name and your preferences.

My special thanks goes ones again to Pearl Lake from the Front Desk. Without her we wouldn’t be back next year with 40 other guests for our special day.

This was our third trip to Aruba. We chose the Phoenix bc of the location. We wanted to be able to walk to restaurants and we were able to do that- although for some, it might be a little far. The resort is very clean and the staff was very accommodating. We loved the pool bar and restaurant !!! It would be nice to have more entertainment at night.

I've owned at this resort since 1998 so I own in the "best kept secret" villa section. Everyone is always flocking to the new side but the villa section offers two pools, BBQ grills, and a hot tub just like the new section. However, there are no crowds, it's quiet, it has the biggest balconies, and it's the closest section to the beach.

I own an oceanfront unit on the second floor so there rarely is a need to fight for beach chairs. I simply watch the ocean from my balcony.

They've done a nice job on the resort and it still maintains its small resort feel.

I only have two complaints: the hot tubs are not hot at all for some reason and owners were charged a renovation fee for this year when the units won't be renovated until next year. At a minimum, paid owners should be placed in a renovated unit. I would have rejected that, however, due to my unit's location. But, they should offer it.

My home away from home. I love the Phoenix. Incidentally, I own at divi village also and choose to stay at the Phoenix everytime instead.

Room Tip: Choose a villa room BUT make sure it has covering on the balcony. Many do not. I think that your b...

This was our second time to Aruba. We bought a timeshare at Divi Phoenix last year while staying at another location. This was our first time to stay in our "home" in Aruba and we loved it. We own a two bedroom unit in the new towers. That is a one bedroom with two baths and an adjoining studio with king beds and sleeper sofas. We also had a comp week so we took my brother and his family and my mother, 11 people in total. The rooms are spacious with full kitchens (Note: there is no stove. There is some kind of European combination microwave and convection oven thing that someone needs to leave a manual on how to use it in the room). The beds were very comfortable and the sleeper sofa was ok (for a sleeper sofa). The showers do leak because the edge guards don't seal correctly and the doors don't close completely. No big deal, as you can move the shower head over and not spray it directly at the door. The only "major" issue that we had was the AC in one of the units was not working very well upon arrival. Contacted maintenance and they had it fixed within an hour or two.

Service in Aruba can be slow, even to the point of giving the appearance of not caring. It's not always that way, but you do have some service people who take their time about things. Pure Beach restaurant is good, but the bar service and wait staff could be improved. We knew what to expect going into it and didn't let it affect our vacation.

We never experienced any issues with the palapas on the beach. There was usually one or two available at any time of the day. Yes, they do get reserved and often go unused for hours, but there was always an open one somewhere. The beach is one of the best on Aruba. It's quiet, uncrowded and is a beautiful place to watch the sunset.

Overall, we are totally satisfied with our decision to purchase and stay at Divi Phoenix. You will be too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new towers, above the 3rd floor for excellent ocean/sunset views.

Stayed here 6/21 -6/27 with a 5 yo and 9 yo and another family with 2 kids of same age. This spot was ideal for us as many have described, its just far away from the hustle and bustle that you can a find a palapa almost anytime and its quiet enough to get a good nights sleep, but your within walking distance to all the action, or a $6 cab ride. We stayed in the older tower, one bedroom suite which was great as we put the kids on the sleeper sofa and had the separate bedroom. Plenty of room for our two families to gather for meals, etc.

The Bad: Had some issues with no hot water in the mornings for showers and
the hot tubs we're never heated while we we're there, but the water was still tolerable for morning showers..Last day our shower knob striped out and was stuck in the on position until maint came up and fixed it. Our friends also had plumbing issues, water was too hot and knob did not adjust correctly. But we had very hot water for afternoon rinse downs before hitting the town.
Prices for drinks in general were kinda steep. Started out the first day and I thought ok, $ 5.50 for the "daily special", this is manageable. But then the rest of the week, drinks were in the $9-10 dollar range, and they started auto adding in the surcharge....4 drinks should not cost you $40 but i guess thats supply and demand and the water stool squaters are paying it LOL.

The Good: The room and kitchen amenities were adequate. A nice little touch would be to provide at least the first few days coffee/creamer until one could get to the grocery store or on-site sundries store, which, btw, the prices we're rather reasonable as compared to what we got at Leehman Bros. I liked this resort and booked here because all the rooms had an ocean side view of some sort. Well designed pool grounds and over all layout. You've expanded nicely. View was very nice from 5th floor and above. Vegetation and palms were nicely kept. The sit up board in the outdoor gym needs to be replaced.

90% Staff were very friendly, and always smiled and laughed when spoken to. The only "whatever" faces I encountered on occasion were at the Pure Beach Bar where I'm sure they we're just tired of dealing with the Jersey e cigarette type attitudes that monopolized the water stools all day.

Note to bar staff, if you smile when you give me my drinks, and don't auto add in the 15%, your get 20% + tip from me, but if you add in the surcharge, thats all you'll get unless we had an extra pleasant experience. But I guess you have to start adding in the surcharge during the week because too many people are stiffing you throughout the day.

Pools were clean despite previous reviews...Its Aruba and its windy, stuff is going to blow into the pools but I saw staff cleaning them diligently every morning and skimming through out the day when they had a chance. No concerns from me about the cleanliness of the pools, our 4 kids had a perfect time in them and the beach. And at least during our visit in June,we had not problems getting palapas. A few times we got up at 7:00 and picked our favorite, but several days we came back after lunch and morning excursions and still found great palapas. i do like the system they've employed for reserving palapas v/s people claiming them all day with towels and little switzerland bags. There did seem to be a bit more competition for the pool chairs mornings and afternoons but we spent most of the days at the beach, and evenings at the pool when it was practically empty. And parents, please don't let your children chase and throw things at the iguanas. These things will come right up to you and eat a sprig of lettuce out of your hand if you move in slowly and give them their space. Its really cool to have the creatures out there with you and the kids can enjoy them immensely with a little kindness.

Also the resort has several hidden treasures. I won't go into detail because i want these little gems to be there to be found for the next time we're able to make it down but I'm glad the resort doesn't advertise these.

Pure beach 6 1/2 out of 10 but just fine for our family. P Beach was a good spot to sit with a Balashi and watch the World Cup games. Service was a bit slow, even on the "slow" night when we had dinner there. Just be patient for your food and enjoy the evening, because this isn't TGI fridays.

Pure Ocean was an 8 out of 10, but the ambiance, lighting, and sunset made our evening at the P Ocean a 10. Service was also a few notches above at Ocean and the live music was excellent. The curry mussels appetizer was very delicious as our kids we're scarfing them down faster than the adults.

Breakfast under the Exercise facility. prices were reasonable when compared to a starbucks but selection was limited. We bought out the last few bacon egg n cheese english muffins twice. But the fruit cups we're fresh and yogurt cups plentiful. Based on the limited options here, we opted to hit the grocery store for most breakfasts and a few lunches in our rooms.

Bugalo pier bar was a great place to get lunch and was an easy walk from the Phoenix. One waitress took the time to sit down and complement our 5 yo girls sparkly croc shoes and then chat with us for a few minutes at that really set the tone for our vacation the rest of the week.

Go visit Christian at the water excursions hut. Because you are farther down the beach from the very busy section, these guys try to give you a little more time for the money. You'll be water ferried up to the busy section for most of the action like the banana boat rides but even that is a nice little boat ride. These guys even gave our kids a mango before we committed to do an excursion with them. Little touches go a long way.

Again, a few minor issues, but I would def go back to the Divi Phoenix. I'm actually interested in visiting some of their other Caribbean resorts. Remember, this is an island and you are on island time, so just be a little more patient and take the time reconnect with those you're there with, plus the locals and staff, and you will have an excellent time.

quick and Easy Check in! This was great, because after the traveling nightmare from Ohio that we had it was quick! Our room was a little musty, but with the ac and balcony door open for a half hour the smell went away. You would not ask for a better view and the beach was not overcrowded at all. You can snorkel right off the beach and the water is so clear and free of trash. The towels and hammocks and chairs are free and it was not hard to reserve them. We will be back for sure!

Room Tip: Every room at this place had a great beach view!
