“"A week of bleach"”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

I have been vacationing in Aruba for over 20 years.. My review is from August 10 - 17 2013.
This is a beauiful resort, with a great beach area, but this week they decided to powerwash with bleach all the decks facing the ocean. They wiped-out the pool area with over spray of bleach & water for 4 days.. Kids & adults were blasted with bleach & water leaving the clothes with white spots from the bleach.. After 4 days & everyone yelling they stopped. It was a week from hell !!!
We were so looking forward to a relaxing weeks vacation, not so this time.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same, just at different floors. They all face the ocean

The service at this hotel is impeccable and the grounds are kept beautiful during our entire stay. My husband and I especially enjoyed our kitchen and for the nights we didn't eat out, we bought groceries from the local store and cooked at our room. This saved us money and we had the time to enjoy this resort. We also took advantage of the grill and grilled up some food one night. The drinks were amazing and the staff was so courteous and helpful. Overall this hotel was amazing and we can't wait to come back and visit!

My hubby and I arrived there on Friday evening from Houston and we have an absolutely wonderful time. The resort was beautiful, the staff was very nice and helpful and our accommodations were lovely. The beach and water was so clean and clear, just an awesome place to spend a relaxing few days and close to attractions....we even walked down the beach and had dinner at a different restaurant each night and visited the casinos that were close. Had an incredible experience in town at the Atlantis Submarine site.....dived 137 ft. Under the ocean and saw shipwrecks and such beautiful subsea life! We visited the butterfly Farm across the street from the Phoenix and enjoyed that excursion very much! All in all in was a wonderful vacation and we can't wait to come back to Aruba!

My mom and I arrived at the Divi on August 3rd. We upgraded to a penthouse because we didn't want to stay in the older tower (I'm sure it was fine but we felt like treating ourselves!). We arrived at the hotel about 12:45 and were told our room probably wouldn't be ready until four o'clock. I had anticipated this from other reviews but they have a room where they can hold your luggage and we were prepared to change into our bathing suits and head to the beach or pool to start vacationing! I grabbed a sandwich at their deli (ham and cheese-six bucks). By the time the sandwich was ready our beeper went off (they give you a beeper similar to one you get at a restaurant). This was a pleasant surprise so we went to the room. It was lovely! We were room 972 in the new tower, close to the beach. It was updated nicely. We had some technical difficulties with the washer/dryer combo, working the jetted tub, and getting locked out on our balcony (the security fell when we closed the door, preventing us from getting back in). All these issues were minor, however, and the concierge was prompt in fixing them and always called to see if the issues had been resolved and to our satisfaction, which I thought was nice. (Thank you to our neighbors who called down to get us help when we were stuck!).
Before I forget, the ride to the hotel was about 25 bucks in a taxi. We decided to go to the SuperFoods store to stock up and it was an eight dollar ride one way and nine dollar return. Looking back now I would've gotten more food and cooked in a couple nights but there were so many restaurants to choose from down the road and easy to walk to. We ate breakfast and lunch mostly in our room.
The location of the hotel is superb. It's located at the end of Palm Beach with a little separation from the next high rise so it's not as crowded as the other beaches on the strip. I don't think I would've enjoyed the vacation as much if we were at a beach as crowded as those! If you want a palapa close to the water we did have to go down about 7:30ish to claim one (people just put their towels and a rock on the lounge char). I also walked down to Eagle Beach to check that out being it's rated one of the world's top beaches. It is clear and pristine. ...I understand the rating! The staff at the hotel was very nice. Everyone seems to be happy and friendly, even outside the hotel. I can see why Aruba is called "One Happy Island". Thanks to Daniel, our waiter who was always friendly and made us laugh. Even the bell boys and security remembered us and bid us farewell on our last day. Do be aware that there is an energy charge daily that you will get upon check out. About ten dollars a day. This was disappointing. We didn't rent a car but it would be easy to drive around and I would do this on a return visit. People we met said to rent the car from the states, as it will be much chepear--Alamo was a recommendation. We used the bus when we needed to and it was very easy and cheap..about $2.30 a person. There is a constant breeze on the island but I loved it. Without the breeze it'd be too hot. Just remember to reapply the sunscreen because you won't realize you're getting burned. The colors in Aruba are beautiful! Turquoise water and pink sand! I really enjoyed this vacation and would definitely come back again!

Room Tip: Newer tower has more updated rooms.

This was our first time in Aruba and the Divi Phoenix Beach Resort did not dissapoint! From our check in to our check out it was pure paradise! We rented a Studio Villa. Room #962. it was located on the sixth floor with a breathtaking view of the ocean. The room was updated and housekeeping was amazing. The only problem we had was our room key cards kept going bad because apparently they get deactivated by a cell phone or credit card.

We could not have picked a more perfect place. The beach is nice and clean, with plenty of huts and hammocks for everyone (also beach towels provided). We especially loved the grills by the beach and used them and our kitchen almost everyday. it was also nice to have a washing/drying machine (built in one). The hotel is centrally located and is the perfect distance from everything. (we rented a car). I would recommend this resort to anyone going to Aruba and will be back myself hopefully soon!

Room Tip: Choose higher up rooms for an ocean view.

My husband and I arrived in Aruba on July 4th and spent five nights at the Divi Phoenix. Check in was a bit slow and our room wasn't ready even though we had called in advance and requested early check-in, so we sat in the lobby for about an hour before the room was ready. We were given a room on the fifth floor of the new section (room 853) and were very satisfied with it. We felt we got the best deal on the island having a full kitchen and two bathrooms in our one bedroom suite. We brought our own cooler and purchased beer and water from the Wine & Spirits shop which we took with us down to the beach each day and on our excursions to save on the high priced bar drinks. The bed was very comfortable. The only issue we had was that the door of the shower didn't fully close in either of the bathrooms so you ended up flooding the bathroom floor. We would place our beach towels from the day before around the shower door to collect the water. Also, you'll notice a mildew/mold smell in the bathroom, usually more noticable after a few days (we don't usually allow housekeeping into our room so it' wasn't cleaned on a daily basis.) The best part of the room is the balcony, with two chairs and a table. We would actually spend some of our afternoons laying out on the balcony to avoid having the sand blasted on us from the super high winds on the beach. The view was amazing, looking out over the hotel grounds and ocean water. The best rooms would be on the corner where you get two balconies. For the most part, the room was very soundproof, the only noise that we ever heard was the sound of people dragging furniture across the floor above us starting around 8am every morning. Any music from the bar was blocked out once the balcony door was closed.

Since the hotel is located at the beginning of the high rise hotels, you are definitely more secluded. You don't have the riff-raff muddling up your beach or walking through constantly. It was more relaxed and peaceful compared to the other beaches. And to get to the other high rises, everything is connected with a path which will also take you into the town center where you'll find the restaurants and shops. From the Divi Phoenix, the town center is about a 15 to 20 minute walk, totally doable and you get to do a lot of people watching along the way.

We booked two excursions and had dinner reservations made through the concierge Sergiy who did an excellent job. We only ate at the Pure Beach restaurant one day and had excellent service (the food was okay.) My husband did have an issue getting service at the bar one day, being ignored by the bartenders but I was always able to get a water very quickly.

The actual beach was nice, plenty of loungers and if you got there early enough, you could get a canopy (which is definitely required with the hot Aruban sun!) The water was pleasant, a bit cold at first but you would get used to it. It was a bit rocky walking into the water at first because of the waves and a lot of seaweed a little bit further out so I always wore water shoes. The only thing I don't like about Aruba is the wind! Be prepared for 25 to 30+ mph wind all day, every day. It was nice to cool off your skin while laying out in the sun but it also made the sand blast against you and you had sand in every crevice at the end of the day. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would definitely return to it myself if I were to ever visit Aruba again.

This hotel/timeshare is under a major remodel project. Mr Griffith has come in to over see it all. He will do an amazing job! This hotel is close to the high rise and tons of restaurants. The rooms are nice and clean. The clerks at the front desk are very helpful. If you have an issue tell them calmly and they will do their best to help you out. The beach is nice in this area. I would stay here again.
