“Great room - great beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2012

First time to Aruba. Friends own one these timeshares, and invited us down. The condo/room was fabulous. Everything was perfect from the kitchen to the living room to the bedroom. The beach was great. Sat under a palapa part of the time enjoying the views and people watching.
The rest of time walked the beach or windsurfed. As a decent windsurfer it was challenging to avoid the coral and plants. But it was cool not to have large waves to contend with because of the offshore breeze. Well not really a breeze, It was WINDY. Always wear sunglasses when on the beach because sand will scratch your eyes. Sometimes it can feel like your skin is being sandblasted. The water is crystal clear. Overall a great Place.. Eating out is pricey. We ate at a restaurant past the airport and between the four of us food and taxi both ways it came to $280.00. I loved it here but it is 8-10 degrees too hot and everything is way to pricey. You can go to Europe for a week for the cost of this place and have some really interesting experiences.

A nice hotel time share. Good service. The whole hut thing can be a little stressful. Get the daily cleaning service. It is worth it. The water pressure in the shower could be better.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms that face the surf club

I've stayed at all 3 of Marriott's properties along this stretch on this vacation and I think I enjoyed my time here the most. It was a little less-crowded than the others ( which translates to less of a headache with the sharky-getting-a-palapa problem that will always be there on this stretch of beach).

The pool here is lass flashy than at neighboring resorts but it was also WAY less-crowded.

Less of the kids club music pumping all day long...also good.

I also felt like there was a little bit less of the people walking up and down the beach hawking their stuff to sell...not sure why that was, but it mad eit easier to relax.

It certainly seems like a lot of "east coasters" (ie: New Yorkers) that stay here, so if you are looking to escape the usual "scene" (interpret that however you'd like!) of NY, you'll probably find that there's more of it here than you'd like but...whatever. You just have to tune it out. I prefer going further away than the Caribbean for exactly this reason...

Oh, there was a really long false-alarm fire thing late one night that took longer than it should have to resolve, but I think some yahoo pulled the alarm and they had to do a full inspection before they could let us back to our rooms. Still, communication during that whole ordeal was pretty much non-existent. We were pretty much left to assume there was no fire or else people would have actually been saying something to us, so they need to look at their communication breakdown on that one.

Anyway, overall, this resort gets a solid thumbs up from me...I had a nice time and being able ignore the whole Hurricane-Irene-might-wipe-out-NY thing that was unfolding back here means that I was not having any real issues with my resort.

We had an spectacular time. Went with my daughters and have a very good time, the snorkelling and diving were fabulous but the best for my daughters was the glamorous nights. We own an ocean view appartament at Marriott Ocean Club since 1999 and was the first time we use it, other years we rent it.
It´s a very clean, comfortable and convenient hotel.
If you need moore tips for your season vacations, so to have a great time too, just ask for them,

Room Tip: Ocean view is good enough

I TOTALLY agree with the comments regarding the 3rd and 4th weeks of January!!! Avoid them! We have owned at the Surf Club for years and finally felt fortunate enough to go in January last year! The first few days were miserable with the kids/teenagers running amuck! When they finally left on a Thursday, we were able to enjoy our last 3 days in peace! Do yourself a favor...go the first 2 weeks in January or wait until February! We are going mid February this year in order to avoid it!!!

My husband and I took a whirlwind vacation to Aruba to celebrate our retirement. We agree with the previous comment about the east coast "community" that shuts down for the third and fourth week in January to come to the Ocean Club. Loud noisy and obnoxious kids-teenagers who think they are entitled to act anyway they choose. We were horrified.

Other than that, the weather was perfect and the restaurants were fantastic. We would not come back to the Ocean Club or the Surf Club for any reason whatsoever.

My husband and I have owned at the Ocean Club since it opened. For those who are considering either buying or possibly renting and have no experience, do not plan your trip around the 3rd Thursday in January! There is a group from the east coast that come down in droves and takes over the place with total disregard for other vacationers. There is no doubt in my mind that the teenagers who are drinking are underage; yesterday there was a group spitting off the balcony. The pool bar was knee deep with kids who would take their beer cans, smash them and then throw them on the floor behind the bar. I have no idea where the adult supervision is and wouldn't doubt that they all are accompanied by their parents. I love Aruba and I love staying at the Ocean Club; just happy my first week was quiet and I am going home today.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side have no sun in the afternoon so you can sit on the balcony.
