This was our first trip to Aruba, having traveled to Grand Cayman for the past five years. We wanted to go somewhere different to celebrate our 40th anniversary. The hotel was great! It is centrally located to numerous good restaurants and shopping, all within walking distance. We ate at a different restaurant every night, and enjoyed them all. The best restaurant that we visited was right there at the hotel, the "Sea Breeze." Great food and a great staff. As for most island resorts, the food is pricey. But it was not much more than we expected. And as I said, there were a variety of restaurants to choose from.
Check-in went smoothly, and they upgraded our room to the top floor of the Sea Tower, with partial ocean views. The room was very clean and quiet, including the air conditioning. And the staff was very friendly and accommodating. If you are an IHG Rewards Platinum Elite Club member, ask for a Guest card that will give you a 15% discount on food at all the hotel restaurants and bars.
The Sea Tower pool was really nice. There are about eight cabanas surrounding that particular pool, with large cushioned circular lounge "beds," for lack of a better word. Extremely comfortable, and on a first come/first serve basis in the morning. We got in line for a palapa on our first day, but decided that we would try getting a cabana for the rest of our vacation. And it worked out fine!
The beaches are really nice. Clean with mostly soft sand. The water wasn't as clear right off the beach, as we have experienced on other island resorts, so snorkeling off the beach was not really possible . But once you get further our (via boat), the water is crystal clear and beautiful.
We did rent a car for a day from the car rental agency near the lobby. It was fairly inexpensive--$48 US for the day. It only takes 45 minutes to drive to the eastern end of the island, and 15 minutes to the western end. But is was an interesting drive. Just make sure that you give the auto a thorough inspection before you sign the rental papers. After we returned the car, the agent looked under the front chassis, to see if we had hit any of the numerous speed bumps along the main drive. Happily, none of the previous renters had hit any of the bumps, either, so we "dodged that bullet!"
Overall, it was a great vacation, and we plan on returning. For the price, location, and staff hospitality, the Holiday Inn Resort is the only place we'll stay!

Room Tip: Ocean view is worth the extra money!

Dont get turned away because its a "Holiday Inn". This hotel is amazing. Very beautiful, clean and the hotel staff is very helpful and polite. I was there for 6 days 5 nights. and everyone from the front desk staff to the housekeepers are very warming and always smiling. the hotel is right off the beach. make sure you request a beach view, amazing sunsets. Right in the heart of the hotel scene, short cab ride to downtown markets. I would rent a car, much cheaper than the cab rides. when i do return i will be staying there again.

Room Tip: ther only tip i would say is request a beach view.

Just returned from the HI, we asked for and got an Ocean View Room (6734), very nice room with a superb view, you can watch the infamous sunset each evening from your balcony prior to going out for dinner.
The HI has got a great location on the beach with shopping just across the street, together with some restaurants. The beach and pool areas are very clean, not sure about having to queue for a palapa for the next day though, there must be another way of doing it, but I guess the current system works and the number of people who return year after year must enjoy it all.
We only took breakfast once in Corals, a bit staff canteen feel to it and ate out each evening.
The public areas are quite pleasant, the lobby is ideal to escape the mighty mid day sun and do some people watching ! The few shops inside of the hotel cover quite a number of items required on holiday. I was disappointed with the casino, it is a part that perhaps missed out on the recent renovations or perhaps we had been spoiled by the Carnival Casino at the Renaissance on Curacao a few days earlier ?
All in all a typical HI property with nice staff, good location and blue skies as a bonus.

Room Tip: A high Ocean View Room

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Aruba in May 2014 with two other couples. We had an ocean front room with a balcony on the fourth floor. The room was very clean and the view was gorgeous. The hotel staff were all courteous and friendly. Be careful what room you get because some can overlook the front of the building and you won't have any beach view. We had the package that included the buffet breakfast. The breakfast had plenty of food to choose from and the service was exceptional. One person from our group did wait in line every day at 3:00 to reserve our hut, although I don't think it was necessary at this time of year as there were enough huts available. The pools were clean and there were always plenty of available chairs. The grounds are not as lush and beautiful as they are at some of the other hotels, but the advantage is that you are directly on the beach and don't walk through the gardens to get to the beach. I would certainly stay at the Holiday Inn again.

Room Tip: If you stay in the first floor beach front rooms you will have people walking by you all day as you sit on your patio. Just depends if you like privacy or not. Also, some of the rooms overlook the front of the building and don't have a beach view, be sure to check which room you are getting.
