We spent 3 nights at the Boardwalk and loved it. The casita was very clean and cozy. The property was secluded, quiet and very peaceful despite the fact that the place was nearly sold out. Perfect for families, but maybe not for those who are looking for a party scene. It is in walking distance of the beach, but you should have a car if you want to go somewhere besides the beach because the location is on the far north side of town. We went to the supermarket the day after we arrived and were able to prepare several meals in the casita. That helped save time and money. I would definitely come back, but I would rent a car next time. Taxis get expensive.

Room Tip: All the rooms were nicely secluded. I don't think it matters which room.

Stayed at Boardwalk Hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews, but didn't have quite the same experience. Janine at the front desk is very nice and she did arrange a car rental through Value Rental Car agency for us which we appreciated, but the car was in poor shape and they charged me more than the quoted price upon arrival. After a long day of traveling from the U.S., our casita wasn't ready. It didn't take long for them to get it ready, but we arrived late in the day and were exhausted. Veronica the housekeeper did a great job of cleaning, we were happy w/ the cleanliness of the room. Boardwalk Hotel is not in that nice of a location either, across the street is a huge construction site on one side and the other side is run down houses. Long walk to beach access at Moomba beach and has a very small area where you can sit on the beach. Terrible service at Moomba too if you want drinks/food on the beach. We were glad we had a car and could drive to other beaches. The resort told us they had snorkeling gear, but they didn't have enough when we were there so we had to borrow from friends staying at a nearby resort. Supposedly the sisters who own the resort are helpful, but we didn't have that experience. I only interacted with one of them and she was inattentive when I was in the office asking questions. Do your own research on where to go eat and such before you go, there's not a lot of assistance there.

We stayed at casita #23 in March 2012, and absolutely loved it. We did not like the idea of a huge resort, and weren't thrilled with those prices either. Yet, we wanted to be close enough to the beach. We found this place, and decided to go for it, and it was a great choice!

We were there with a 17 months old toddler. First thing I'll say is that they're well set up for toddlers. They had a high chair, crib, and lots and lots of sand toys (we didn't bring any, remembered everything else, forgot beach toys...). Their pool has a shallow side which is toddler friendly, and our daughter also enjoyed running around their gazebo and grass area. She also adored the cats - who are very clean and well behaved!

Janine, the person who runs the place, was extremely nice and helpful and the same goes for their cleaning lady (Veronica), who actually got in the car with me at 8:30pm to show me where to find a minimarket that is opened late, because in Aruba everything closes at 8pm...

Some general notes about the casitas: they are super clean and spacious, very nice. We loved #23, a second floor casita. The porch was quite private even though the steps go down directly into the pool area, thanks to vegetation. And to our surprise, we discovered that from the bedroom window we could actually see the sea. A bit from afar, but definitely sea view. I suspect that you get the same view from the *porch* of casita #21. The porch for #21 faces south and west, but it's easy to lean out slightly and look north-west. The porches for casitas #21 and #22 are less private since they don't have the vegetation of #23. Of this this might change, as vegetation is variable clearly. We loved being in an upper casita for the slightly stronger breeze and a bit of a view. We'd request either #21 or #23 next time. That said, the people in the lower casitas all seemed happy with the place too. The lower casitas mostly get pool views, and frankly there's breeze in that area too. Aruba is just breezy. Also, there's probably better shade midday in lower casitas porches, although half of our porch was always shady too. Oh - and another difference - in case you care: The lower casitas have lying down hammocks the upper ones sitting (chair) hammocks. I personally prefer the sitting ones, so I was quite happy with how we ended up.

Other tips (especially for shade lovers): We took the place because we wanted to walk to the beach and it IS walking distance, but we ended up driving every day. It's a 2 minute drive, but that way it was easier to carry the cooler, beach chairs, and various toddler accessories, and we didn't have to worry about stroller in the sand. So a car is highly recommended. Also, Boardwalk partners with Moomba beach club (adjacent to the free parking lot - we never had a problem finding a space) for lounge chairs (we just used "director's chairs that boardwalk gave us). We are shade people. Moomba doesn't really have useful parasols or palapas. What we discovered though, is that Moomba is adjacent to the holiday inn, and because the beach is in the west, there was actually great shade from the holiday inn building, lasting until about 11:30am if you're willing to be relatively close to the building (the beach is not that big, it's still a good spot), and the sand was softer at the holiday inn than at moomba (I think the hotels sift it). So, what we ended up doing is holiday inn beach in the mornings, and pool in the afternoons (at least half the pool is shady from about 4:30 or 5pm or so).

Anyhow, I hope this helps some. Overall, our experience was great, and if we ever go back to Aruba, this is probably where we will go.

Room Tip: We would go for casita #21 or #23 if we returned. See review for details why.

After a nice warm welcome by the sisters, we got to stay at the casitas. They were very clean and tidy. The welcome drink on Thursday is a nice way to meet your neighbors. I'd say the Boardwalk hotel is a small island on an island. Little piece of heaven on Aruba.

We spent a few days in Aruba and stayed at Boardwalk Hotel. The casitas were clean, quiet and peaceful. Even though the hotel was only a few minute walk from the high rises and Palm Beach, when you were at the Boardwalk Hotel, you felt like you were miles from all of the hustle and bustle. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided us with chairs and a cooler for our advertures to various beaches on the island.

I would highly recommend renting a car if you stay at Boardwalk as it is a ways away from some of the restaurants and attractions on the island. Janine was great at setting up a car rental for us.

We stayed in casita #6 and I couldn't locate outlets in the bathroom which was a bit unusual. The bedroom configuration was such that the only easily accessible outlet did not allow you to use the mirror. If you are using a curling or flat iron and want to use a mirror, it was a challenge.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Boardwalk Hotel. It was a great value and would stay there again on a return trip to Aruba.
