We enjoyed our stay at the Manchebo Bay Beach Resort and Spa. We were there unexpectedly for one night paid for by Amsterdam Manor since they were overbooked. The room had a lovely patio looking out into a garden and the room was spacious. The gardens were extremely nice. It had two showerheads - one angled and on directly above. The beach was a bit rough with a current and waves - OK for adults but maybe difficult for young kids. There was a large open air pavilion for yoga. We ate breakfast and dinner at Ike's poolside which was lovely.

Wonderful experience, wonderful staff (except spa), excellent restaurants and entertainment. Nice small casino and mini-mart within walking distance. Bus stop nearby, cabs easy to get, jeep rental on site. There's a bagel joint, dunkin donuts, subway and a great coffee shop (Juan Valdez) within walking. Best beach around right in front of the hotel. I wouldn't pay the extra for ocean view again, the rooms are all identical and the layout is partial ocean only. The rooms are nicely updated but typical of an older hotel, the beach and romantic environment make up for it.

If you want nightlife, noise, a fight for a spot on the beach, and kids running around, go up north to the hi-rise area.

We do not recommend the spa, perhaps they were having a bad week but the staff there has an attitude problem. First visit OK, second was told to come back because staff was on lunch. Went back later to discuss this and was met with more attitude. Take your spa needs elsewhere, we found a nice one within walking distance at the Alhambra shopping area where we were treated like royalty !

Room Tip: Second floor, 40's (we had 44), save money and pay the regular room rate, instead ask for an upg...

A few days ago we returned from our first trip to the Caribbean. We have thought long on this holiday and was very excited about how it can go, it was then so far away! Now we can only say that we had a dream vacation! Manchebo - it is the right place for you, seeking peace and quiet and pure relaxation. Everything is made to ensure that we felt welcome from the first moment. Welcome drink at the reception area, nice greeting from Sandra and fast check-in gave us a proper "home feeling".
Our choice of Manchebo was absolutely perfect: location, hotel and rooms, food and service - everything was above all expectations! And, of course, I must mention the best beach in the world!
We would like to thank the wonderful staff for the excellent service and friendliness. We will long remember Carlos, who helped us with palapas, lounge chairs and all that was necessary on the beach. June, Sandra, Anne Maria and everyone who works at Manchebo beach resort - thank you for the unforgettable experience.
If you search for the right place in Karibbien - select Manchebo!
Our choice we made - next time there will be only and only Manchebo
Best wishes Elena and Bjorn Beckmann, Oslo, Norway

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are very nice and quiet.

The resort is a bit old, but well and carefully maintained. Pleasant surprise was how we were greated. Being devoted beach vacationeers, we have seen various places and attitudes. This place is probably the best at how they greet arriving tourists. Good size rooms, good beds, a deposit safe, nice furniture. A Keurig coffeemaker - nice. Two bottles of water, but for some reason, only on the day of arrival. No problem - tap water is great. It tastes well and nobody had any consequences from drinking it unboiled. Nice feature is a small cooler that you can fill with ice and drinks and take to the beach or when you travel. A small fridge and a microwave. They definitely do not want you to eat your own meals and rather use their restaurants as no plates or silverware are in the room.

Beach - nice white fine sand, good to make sand castles with kids. For some reasons, the hotel has less beach furniture than they have guests - if you do not "reserve" one with a towel in the morning, you may not have one to lay on. There are several palapas to hide under from the sun, but definitely not for everyone. That beach furniture need an upgrade too. For some strange reason they collect and tie together them at 7:00 PM. So if you like to lay down to enjoy the evening or night breeze, you need to bring your own chair.

We had to watch our budget. We had a rental car, so we chose to shop for groceries and eat at places that are not as expensive as the restaurants on the premises. A short walk away in the shopping area near a casino is the Market - a small convenience store. Prices are relatively high there. If you drive a bit towards highrises and then turn right, you would see a big modern shopping center called Super Food. It has a great variety of produce, deli, drinks (including alcohol) and other groceries for much less.

Food at the resort bistro is of very good quality, but our American appetite is not a good match for their European portions. My filet mignon was perfect, well, medium rare could be a bit more red, but very tender and with good flavor. The menu states it was from Argentina. If you happen to travel to the opposite tip of the island, try La Granja, a local self-service place in Savaneta with great chicken and seafood items for much less and with large portions. We also frequented a Little Caesars pizza shop near the Market store. They have a happy hour - a large pizza for $12. A small restaurant nearby with blue lights - so-so. Ice cream lovers will find a shop there too.

Travel around Aruba does not require a jeep unless you REALLY want to go offroad. Our KIA Picanto did a marvelous job navigating though the trails in the Aruba park. Visit the park in the late afternoon when the gate guard leaves and there is nobody to collect the fee.

Mi Dushi sunset boat trip is a good adventure - just watch that guy who assists rope jumping :-). My family did not enjoy the Atlantis trip as much.

Best snorkeling is around Malmok and Arashi beaches, though I would not choose Aruba as a snorkeling destination. I advise not to go to the Baby beach - too crowded, renting something to seat on is a rip off. If you drive, most likely you would get lost. And a view of the old refinary does not enhance your experience. Even if you do go, snorkel not in the main lagune, but in a straight between wave breakers and the shore - water is much more clear there.

People - majority of the tourists in the hotel are in the 40+ age group. That sets the atmosphere to be quite and orderly. Unlike most Caribbean places, you would not see much, if any at all top optional sunbathers - that might be because of the American dominance. I was surprised that there were not much college age people on the island - we stayed during a spring break and nothing could be indicative of that - a good mix of all ages. I guess, it may have something to do with the publicity of the Natalie Holloway disappearance a few years ago.

My little gripe- we had a garden view, the second from the most remote. in the Nov 18th response from Edgar, the manager, to one of the reviews, he states that they like to suprise customer with upgrades. So I tried - sent him an email asking if he could get us surprised with an upgrade. Nice try. While he could not recall such promise, we have been honored with a $30 credit at the bar. Well, thank you - you may not get even that elsewhere. That was in addition to the free set of drinks on the arrival day and three vouchers for yoga.

My last comment - LEAVE FOR THE AIRPORT WELL IN ADVANCE. Aruba has the most weird security system in the world. You check in your luggage and then expect to pass through a security check before you board your plane. So that was our assumption. We sat outside, enjoying our drinks before being deprived of the right to bring them with us inside. About 1 hr 20 min before the flight we went inside. Went through the security check. What is that long line of people inside??? That is to clear through the US Customs and Border. In Aruba???? The line was not moving.... When the clock hit the boarding time and we have moved only about 1/5 of the length, we have realized that we are not going to make it. We stormed to the head of the line begging to let us go ahead. Cleared that barrier... Why are we in the luggage claim area??? Why are those people picking up bags and line up for another long line??? To go through US Customs and another security check??? Why did we do that before if we have to redo it again??? That made me think of a Banana republic efficiency, but apparently this is the US agencies invention. Lucky us, the flight was delayed by 45 minutes and we have managed to make it, otherwise our vacation could have been much longer...

Room Tip: Garden view is not a good choice if you plan to spend time there

Beautiful resort with an amazing beach! We scheduled spa appointments, took a Pilates class, walked the beach, rented a jeep for off-road Aruba, and had eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner at least once at the resort. The staff was always courteous and helpful, the rooms are clean and the view from our first level room was breath taking. One of the best vacations ever! I will always choose the smaller resorts with a personal touch...thank you Manchebo Beach staff!!

Room Tip: Definitely choose a first level room with the ocean view! Worth the extra $$

I was not going to write this review because me and my wife wanted to keep this resort as a secret hide-out for us. But we felt that would not be fair to Manchebo.

Our choice of staying at Manchebo was perfect and could not be better. Everything at Manchebo was great - location, room, walking right into sand from our room, food, drink, spa, yoga, facilities, etc.

Manchebo is located on the lowrises area of the island - Eagle beach, which is one of the best beach in the world. We prefer lowrises to highrises, for sure. We purchased the all-inclusive package and was assigned an ocean front room - from our rom we walked right into the sand. The beach in front of the hotel was not crowded and there is plenty of space between umbrellas. Breakfast was OK although we loved the smoothies; lunch at the Pega Cafe and dinner at the two gourment restaurents was just great. My wife did Yoga and spa and she loved the experience. The hotel has only 70 rooms so all guests are well attended and by the time leaving the hotel, every staff knows you.

The only downside I could think of was that here was not much for my 6-year son to do around the hotel. Meanwhile there was not too much to do for him on this island either.

We will definetely return to Aruda and when we do, we will stay at Manchebo.

I hope this review will make you choose Manchebo.

Room Tip: choose ocean front if possible; or ocean view on the second floor to watch sun-set

We visited Aruba 3/15/13 to 3/21/13, and stayed at the Manchebo Beach Resort and Spa. It was my second choice, as I originally booked with the Westin. After I did extensive research and reviewed many other good and bad reviews, I instantly realized I chose the wrong hotel and quickly switched from the Westin to Manchebo. When I think of Aruba, I think of the type of experience the Manchebo Beach Resort offers. It's classified as a"low rise" hotel as opposed to the monstrosities down the other end of the island. We stayed in room 15 and it had a direct view to the beach.....just opened the slider doors and we were on the beach!! There are no bad rooms!! I absolutely loved that! There are only 70 rooms at the resort so at some point you will meet (or even know) someone there! When you check in, you will meet the most wonderful woman named Sandra (who we just loved). She was there everyday with a genuine smile and warm welcoming conversation. Our day felt complete after talking to her each day! We learned that many of the staff worked there 25 years or more and were truly dedicated to making each guest feel special and welcomed. Not only were the rooms, staff and service exceptional, the food at the 3 restaurants at the resort was phenomenal. The new Chef at Ike's Bistro makes the most amazing dishes you will never forget......muscles and linguini.....spanikoptika.....OMG!!! The staff at Ike's were exceptional too. Although the sea was pretty rough a few of the days we were there making swimming difficult, we still made the most of it by enjoying walks on the beautiful beach and baking in the sun. It was very difficult to leave after having such a wonderful experience......we're already planning our next trip there and won't stay anywhere except Manchebo!
