“Returning a second time, even better than the first!”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

This was our second trip to Aruba, and we decided once again to stay at the Amsterdam Manor, having stayed there in 2010. Amazingly, we think it was even better this time around.

This hotel is pretty much the opposite of the high rise section, and we love it that way. We had superior studios (kitchenettes) and a 1 bedroom suite (full kitchen), and again, they served our party well of 2 mid 40s couples and one senior couple in their 70s.

They've redecorated the rooms a bit, and added cushions to the loungers in front of the superior studios. The computers by the lobby were handy, as always, for checking email, and the brightly colored adriondack chairs in the courtyard under the gazebo actually fit in pretty well. The Horizons bar was open pretty much every night we were there for two happy hours, minus the night they had the staff party. The staff at the beach with hotel towels and loungers were always easily found, and we were always able to find palapas. Even with buses dropping off folks from cruise ships and other hotels, Eagle Beach never seemed crowded where we were -- it was decidedly different a few hundred yards down by the larger complex with time shares.

We rented a car this time as well, but Super Foods is literally behind the hotel a few blocks, so you could do without one if all you want to do is relax. We actually cooked all our meals in this time around, and while the kitchens are fully stocked, because I was cooking for 6 adults, you may need to cook stuff in "batches" given the cookware provided is really not meant for whipping up complicated meals. (for example, I had to cook a bunch of pork chops -- easier to do by borrowing a pan from one of our other rooms and cooking it all in the 1 bedroom suite's kitchen for everyone).

The only thing we might change next time is actually having the "younger couples" go into the standard studios because to us, we really only need one unit to have a full kitchen and an area out front where we can hang out.

It appears that Aruba itself is sprucing itself up a bit more these days with a new travel logo (I <3 Aruba: You know, You go) -- and there are definitely more shops downtown, and even Alhambra casino nearby looks a bit snazzier with some new shops and a ballroom.

Overall, we know we'll be back again. The rooms, the staff, the atmosphere -- it's all great. My only problem is that the hotel was *much* busier this time around than last time, and we came around the same dates -- hopefully the new popularity won't mean Amsterdam Manor loses any of its' charm!

Room Tip: If you have anyone in your party with limited mobility -- or a bit short -- realize that the superio...

The Amsterdam Manor give me the best experience in Aruba! such a clean and amazing room! My boyfriend and me have such a great time, the service was amazing, they really makes sure that you have a great time, from flowers to chocolates, everything was amazing! The beach right in front of the hotel is really nice, clean and again fruits and smiles from all of the hotel staff! An amazing experience, also? We didn't need to rent a car because the bus station is right in front and goes all around the island!

Room Tip: choose the room that you like! all of them all good for me

This was our 3rd or 4th stay at Amsterdam Manor, and was our best. They continue to make improvements, and we're the beneficiary. For example, they've added many permanent beach umbrellas; now there are more than enough for all of their guests. Also, a huge supermarket opened a block away.

Unlike the high rises on Palm Beach, Amsterdam Manor has character and feels homey. The two room suites are spacious and have nice, large terraces with pretty good water views. The staff is friendly and helpful. Eagle Beach is fantastic. If you like walks on the beach, you can walk all the way down Eagle Beach, to Manchebo Beach and finally Druif, with lots of restaurants along the way. We HIGHLY recommend Amsterdam Manor and will stay here again.

This was my 3rd visit to Aruba and my girlfriend's first and also our first to the Amsterdam. Overall I would recommend the Amsterdam to anyone who wants to stay out of the high rise hotel area and wants a very nice beach. The beach was excellent, big compared to the high rise area, not crowded and very clean. Even though you have to cross the street to reach the beach, it take nothing away from the Amsterdam or Eagle Beach. Our room was clean with a nice small kitchen, room service was very good and we had a nice view. One con was the water pressure, could be boosted a bit.
We gave the overall rating an Average for a couple reasons. One was the staff in general. They all could use a class in charm school. A smile or a good morning goes a long way. Some of the beach staff were just plain rude and some were just OK. The drink prices vs.the drink quality were out of line, small drinks and high prices. They also tack on a 15% service charge on every order. When we asked the bartenders if this was the tip, they indicated it was not for them but the other staff. Hmmmm, little tacky at best. This was in fact a built in tip. I always thought a tip was based on service and not guaranteed. Again, charm school seems to be in order here again. However, there are ways around that. Within in walking distance is a food market where you can purchase your beverages, food and snacks and dodge the excessive bar and restaurant charges. Even with the high prices, food from the beach bar was very good! Something we could not figure out was the pool area bar, it was always empty.....
Getting around from the Amsterdam was very easy. Right out front is a bus stop, and for $2.30 you can get just about anywhere. We never did eat dinner at Passions, but others that we talked to gave it a big thumbs up. We elected to eat at other area restaurants, all within in minutes from the Amsterdam.
Looking forward, should we return to Aruba, we probably would look at another hotel in the Eagle Beach area.

Our first visit to Aruba. Spent a lot of time to choose Our hotel using TripAdvisor. We wantet to avoid high rise hotel and setteled for Amsterdam Manor based on reviews and size of the hotel.
We never regret Our Choice - Perfect location almost on the Beach - not crowded as in the high rise area - always sunbeds available any time of the day. Smiling Juan and his collegues always
provided good Food and service at the Beach lunch restautant, and were good representives for "on Happy Island".
Our room facing the Beach had all neccesseties needed.
Amsterdam Manor is not a luxury hotel, but a first class hotel With atmosphere you do not find at the large Chain hotels.

It isn't nearly as crowded as the bigger resorts and if a good beach is important, you cannot do better than this resort. I checked out several other beaches at other resorts and boy do they force their guests to pack into the small spaces available. Unlike other resorts, the beach in front of AMBR is free from dead coral heads in the water (all white sand to stand on in the water) and there is PLENTY of room. At the other resorts more people were using the pools than the beach! I think people even came from other places to enjoy the beach this resort has. Also, this resort doesn't have the "corporate" feel some resorts have, but instead has a bit of a classy flavor to it. It is actually a great looking place and you'll find yourself checking out the little details of the design. The two room suite had plenty of room with a nice kitchen and dining area. The balcony was very nice and it wasn't just a 6ft x 6ft slab like other resorts have. You will not regret staying here for your vacation.
