We just returned back from our stay at the Hyatt in Aruba, Dec 3-10. We had a horrible trip getting there, flight canceled, was put on a different airline was told ok to go, didnt get confirmed on a different flight once we got to the gate, lost baggage- dont fly delta! But once we arrived it was amazing. When we checked in, we were greeted by a most friendly staff- Gerald- so super nice and helpful! We told him about our trip and bags and he gave us t-shirts and toiletry cases and complimentary water bottles. Everyone there is so nice and knows your name and says hello everytime you see them. Wondeful atmosphere! What i really liked about the Hyatt is that i was able to email them months beofre with all our requests and actually talk to a real person and get things settled with all my questions and needs before we even got there- theyre very easy to get intouch with and very eager to help- so that i really liked. We had requested a new room and got it- its amazing!! we were on the 4th floor- the view from our room( part ocean part island) was a little blocked by the palm trees- but we were still able to see stuff- and it really didnt bother us. The hotel is under construction but by the time we were there they seemed basically done and the lobby is gorgeous and the rooms too! the beach is beautiful and so is the pool! lots of iguanas and lizards which were fun to watch. The casino is great and fun, and tons of free drinks and friendly service. We got a couples massage which was really nice- however during our massages cronstruction and drilling would randomly be disrupting us- not too bad- but could do with out. we really didnt hear construction from our room- maybe 2 days we heard some- in the morning and afternoon- was annoying, but did not ruin our trip -and would still go back! Overall i was extremely pleased with the service, friendliness and quality of the hotel- very clean and very trendy! we love aruba and want to go back and would def. stay at the hyatt- i reccomend it! Oh also we were honeymooners and had mentioned it to them and we got tons of complimentary things- like champagne and a photo in the garden and a free night next year!!! we brough most of our food and had a nice sized fridge and microwave which was awesome! def. go to the super market for drinks and fruit as the prices are quite expensive!!! The weather was awesome- when i had checked the week before it said rainy all week- but when we go there it was completely sunny and beautiful- it rained maybe 2 days for liek 10 minutes each an cleared up immediately!! all in all aruba is a great place and if you go to aruba you must stay at the hyatt!!!
p.s its worth it to take a cab to and from yoru hotel- its only a few bucks more but no stops and more relaxing!

The Hyatt Regency in Aruba is by far the nicest high-rise hotel in Aruba. It is currently under construction, but it was fine. Since our trip was November 12-18th the hotel was only 38% full, which was great. There no lines for anything and getting a cabana at the beach at noon was no problem either.

The first 2 days we had a room on the 7th floor and they were doing construction on the 8th floor. It wasn't supposed to start until 8:30 am but it started at 7:30. We called and told the fron tdesk the first day, and the second day when we called we requested to be moved. They moved us to teh 2nd floor which was great b/c no elevator was required to get to the room. It was prefectly quite.

Due to the noise and hassle of moving (we had moved 3 times this year at home and came on vacation to escape a home that was being remodeled) the manager was kind enough to give us $100 credit off our bill AND they comped us a free night. We were origianlly supposed to leave Friday but we stayed til Saturday.

The food was a little pricey at the Hyatt ($7.50 for a litre of water at the pool or beach) but I guess it's meant to keep out all the low budget travelers who stay at the 2 star hotels nearby, and it works.

Over all everything was great, the hotel was clean, the staff friendly and the food good.

We heard the Raddisson was nice and since it was right down the street we took a walk through. If you are thinking of staying there, do go to the Hyatt instead. The lobby is nicer, the pools were also, the cabanas on the beach and the chairs didn't compair.

Oh and the Petit steak house had the best mahi mahi I've ever tasted.

And if you go to the pier on the other side of the holiday in be sure to say hello to the wonderful bartenders Carlos & Jenny for Kevin and myself (Stacey).

They were great too!

We loved the Aruba Hyatt. The Regency Club was fantastic, and the beach was phenomenal! Be sure to eat at the California Lighthouse and hire Captain Jethro to take out out on the Octopus for sunset sails as well as snorkel trips. The horseback riding excursion is fantastic, but be prepared to run down the beach full speed even if this is your first time on a horse "NO MORE BEGINNERS!!!!!!" That phrase will take on a whole new meaning after your trip!

We ate outside at the bar every day and found the food to be outstanding and the bartender to be friendly. We were at the regency level and quickly learned that we could eat there for breakfast and dinner for free.....+ once we warmed up to the regency staff, they started giving us bottles of wine and water to take with us which was great! They also were great at booking restaurants for us - specifiying specific tables to ensure our maximum enjoyment when we arrived at the restaurant!

Don't worry about your safety - Aruba is the safest island in the Caribbean. You don't need a car because everything you need is right by this hotel including other restaurants and bars.

We just returned from 5 nights at the Hyatt in Aruba, Nov. 22-27.
The weather was fantastic, we didn't get a drop of rain. Renovations are still on going, the 8th and 9th floors (Club Floor) were not open and being worked on. Lobby almost done. Small bar outside the lobby still not finished. There were no shutes being used on either side of the Hyatt (no trucks) and noise was not bad. Just light hammering in the morning. We had two rooms on the 5th floor, newly renovated. Our sons ages 18 and 20 just loved Aruba and want to return. We did the 3 hour snorkle trip and rented the wave runners. We ate at Tango, Tomato Charlies, Casa Tua (pizza was very good), Texas de Brazil (excellent, we had 50% off total bill coupon) and our last night we had dinner at The Palms in the Hyatt. We liked all the places we had dinner at and all were within walking distance of the Hyatt. We were going to rent a car but decided not to, just used cabs. We rented two cell phones from Fastphones at the airport which worked out great. Best mini-market is at Playa Linda, not much at Hyatt so we walk next door. We requested empty refrigerators in each room and got one in each which was nice for breakfast stuff and water bottles. Check-in and out was a breeze and we didn't have any problems. The four of us would love to return to Aruba in the near future.

Just spend eight days at Hyatt.

- Construction wasn't that bad during our visit. (As soon as I checked in, I asked for a room away from all the noise and it was very quiet all week.).
- Casino has friendly crowds but smoke was too thick (for me).
- The beach is awesome and there were no lines for lounge chairs.
- Hyatt restaurants are all great but expect to drop some serious $$$
- The best/funnest places to have dinner are the two Argentine BBQ joints. If $$$ is no object, try the on-the-beach dinner in front of Hyatt. (Footprints , I think).
- Water sports activities are great as well but very costly.
- Skip trips that visit island attractions. We took a full day Safari tour that goes to "ruins", ostrich farm, Natural Pool, Natural Bridge, Caves and Baby Beach. All of these were sub-par "attractions" and the famous Baby Beach is right next to a huge oil refinery!!! There is nothing like spending time at a pretty beach while looking at belching smokestacks. Aruba should shut it down and get that cheap gasoline from Chavez (IMHO).

Since all the best hotels are at Palm Beach, if I had to do it again, I'd pick the cheapest room I can find and rent my own Jeep (since the ONLY non-beach fun activity in Aruba is off-road driving around the other side of the island.)

My husband and I just returned from Aruba ...stayed from Nov.13-20. This was our 3rd trip to the Island and we really like everything about the place.....the weather, people and hotel. It did rain real hard the second night we were there, but mostly in the late eve. and night. Came down real hard and they said that was the worst in about 3 years. Some roads were flooded, but sure didn,t stop cars from flying through the water. We went out and watched the cars on the street behind the main road....was so much fun to see people just barging thru the water and some did get stuck. That was the first time we did see that kind of weather in the 3 times we have gone there. Otherwise the rest of the stay was nice and no rain........few clouds, but kept the heat down on the beach a little.
We had stayed before at the former Wyndam and really liked that hotel, but being it had changed names, we just decided to try a new hotel and see if the Hyatt was just as good. We liked our former hotel a lot, but have to say the Hyatt is also nice. There is some construction going on now and we did hear a little noise in the morn. and a few times outside while the were jack hammering a little, but not so much as it ruined our vacation. We were on the 4th floor-garden view and there was a chute comming down, but never heard any commotion outside while we were in our rooms. Thought the rooms were fairly nice and big bathrooms. And the beds were so comfortable!! ...also pillows! We do miss not having a Balcony, tho. I like to sit out and have a cup of coffee in the morn., but only a railing to lean on.
We went to La Petit for our grilled steak and shrimp and it is so good.....also went to the one downtown by Iquana Joe's. We always go to Salt and Peppers for our Breakfast and still a good deal and food is good. Did try Amici's once, but a little more expensive and really too much food for breakfast if you get the Special. We tried Fishes and More and Wow.......that is a nice place to eat. I had the Seafood Pasta(spaghetti) and it had so much seafood in it and the garlic oil sauce is out of this world. My husband had the Mahi-Mahi and he said it was very, very good. My husband's dinner came with a choc. sundae and when they brought his they also brought me one, so he wouldn,t have to share his........my eyes were on it!! Thought that was so nice and no extra charge. Really a recommended place to go to eat and so close to the hotels on Palm.
All in all we had a nice time as usual and went to the Casino's everynight and did win some small pots on the Slots. We only play the .05 ones..........not like Vegas there. Hyatt has a nice casino to play in and really our favorite one. Had no trouble checking in or out and took the Taxi back to Airport...$20. Its less troublesome and no stops along the way. Worth it.

Just returned from a wonderful 5 day stay in Aruba. This was the first time we have traveled to an island in the Caribbean. It was beautiful. The Hyatt was recommended to me by friends who stayed therein 2001. After deciding this was where I wanted to go, I realized there would be a major renovation going on. I decided to book it anyway and hope to be pleasantly surprised...and we were.

The staff at the hotel was very friendly and accommodating. I emailed the hotel a few weeks before arriving and requested a newly renovated room if possible, I was told that the chance was very slim but they would try their best. We were surprised to be given a new room upon check in. I realize others did have complaints so maybe we just got lucky. Yes,there was construction going on (but that is common in the Palm Beach area in Aruba right now) but it did not interfere with our stay. We heard the hammering in the mornings, but it was not too bad...take ear plugs, if you want. We did not spend much time in the room anyway. One outdoor bar is being redone..but there are several others to choose from anyway and the lobby is still being done too but it did not take away from our stay. Once the hotel is done in 2007, it will be really great! The grounds are kept very nice and the beach area was clean there compared to some others resorts up and down that stretch of beach.

We rented a cell phone to call home from the Hyatt business center there before we left and it was conveniently ready for us when we checked in. We asked for a mini -refrig for our room and they brought it immediately.
The casino was very fun. Friendly dealers at the Blackjack tables and a great live band every night.
We did an afternoon snorkel trip on the Octopus which was great. Fun crew and they only take 22 passengers out so it is not packed with people. I highly recommend this one.It departs right down from the Hyatt on the beach..we reserved it the day before.

We never had a problem finding a chair at the pool-- the beach palapas were usually gone when we got to the beach but we did not ever make it a point to get down there early to try to get one either!(I am going to relax in Aruba, not get up early to stress out about that!)..... but the employees at the Hyatt will gladly set chairs w/ towels up for you right at the water so you can enjoy the view and beach if you ask them.

Restaurants we enjoyed were:
*Marandi..ask for a table at 5:30 to watch the sunset. Great food and service. Near the airport. We took a cab everywhere..it was just easier.
*El Gaucho..great steaks ..also a martini bar (Garufa)across the street too with $6 martinis on Friday and live music nightly.
*Madame Janettes..yummy food..(it is rich and filling though), great service and beautiful atmosphere. Very popular place with lots of repeat customers. lobster ravioli appetizer and almond grouper wonderful.
We made reservations at all 3 places before our trip so we did not have to worry about all that once we got there.
The weather was great! We saw rain on the other side of he island while snorkeling one day and that was all. The jeep tours sounded like fun but we decided to just relax instead...maybe next time we will do one.
Hope this post is helpful to others. Aruba Amy, you also helped me alot with my planning..thanks for all of your good advice!
Have fun!
