“Hyatt is Hyatt”

The only reason I gave an average rating was the crowd and expectations that I had from their photos on the web.

Hyatt is a Hyatt and there is a level of expectation you have from them and the resort in Aruba is just that a Hyatt resort. Everything about this resort is what's expected from a Hyatt resort, but the grounds there was really nice.

Now for the bad...
The crowd was ridiculous with kids running around everywhere. I guess that is to be expected with the timing as we went during spring break. So it was expected... come on, kids are kids...

One of the reasons why I chose Hyatt were because of the pictures I saw on the web. I was so impressed, but it wasn't that great. Obviously the pictures are better than reality especially with the resorts, so again, just manage your expectations. The slide was not as nice as pictured as well.

Overall, I would go somewhere else. The hotels are all right there in a row... to the best of my memory from far end it's, but I know I'm missing a couple...:

We stayed at the Hyatt over Feb break and had a great time. In no particular order here were the highlights:

1) Great hotel architecture, small enough to feel somewhat "exclusive" unlike the Marriott which feels like a factory
2) All three restaurants had great food....Japengo, Piccolo, and Ruinas Del Mar
3) Enjoyed being able to walk around at night behind the hotel to the different restaurants (Gianni's was the best) and the souvenir huts
4) The contemporary designs of the room were nice but the glass window to the bathroom were less practical (ie., the lights in the bathroom lit up the whole room)
5) Yes...the walls are a little thin and you can hear people in the hallway, but was not too intrusive
6) Regarding the standing in line for a chair.....we got to the pool around 8:30 to 9:00 and the attendants were always able to get us chairs either around the pool or on the beach. Clearly we could not get the huts or chairs right up against the pool....but for us it was not worth waking up early and wating in line
7) pool was great....kids loved the water slide
8) although it was crowded it did not feel "jam packed"....it was good as the kids were able to find others to play with
9) the beach activities were fun... tubing, fishing, etc.

overall a great stay, great service and a nice family atomosphere

We booked our trip to Aruba after only being there one other time for a cruise stop over. We hadn't enjoyed our first time, but the Hyatt sure makes the trip for us. The open air lobby at the Hyatt is amazing. We had wonderful service. We also received a room upgrade to a garden view from a standard room. Food at the Ruinas del Mar was fantastic!! We have no complaints about the hotel what so ever. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, beach, fitness room, our view! Our daughters 7 and 9 had a great time.
The weather is unbelievably perfect with gentle trade winds. The food at every restaurant we ate at was great: Smokey Joe's, Tango, Tomato charlie's, Benihana, and the smoothy bar at the Hyatt. I would recommend requesting a fridge in your room for your own groceries. We just bought a few things at a local store to keep costs down for breakfast and snacks. We will happily return to this vacation spot in a couple of years!!

My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt Aruba Feb 11-17 for our Honeymoon. We had an amazing time and this island is fantastic

Hotel: The Hyatt is amazing, beautiful landscaping, amazing rooms (very modern and clean), and alot of food options right on the grounds. Also, there is no balcony, but you can open the sliding door and sit on the chairs and enjoy the weather, but you dont spend that much time in the room and the balcony is not that important.

People seem to constantly complain about little things that went wrong. Who cares! your in Aruba. The weather is amazing and everyday is breezy and sunny. People who say you have to get up at 6 am are crazy. This is a vacation, sleep in, try and get a cabana, if you cant right away just put your name on a list and get and spot under one of the several palm trees, the beach helpers will find you something.

We had minor issues with the hotel, but the staff was always willing to help and give free drink tickets. People need to realize that hotels arent perfect. Besides your in Aruba! on Vacation! Relax.

Here is what you need to know about the Hyatt
Great location, decent restaurants, landscaping is amazing, great pool, the best beach, and staff that want to help.

Here are some restaurants we ate at:

Cafe Japengo: at the Hyatt, very average sushi, thought it would be great, but not that fresh and limited menu.

Aqua Grill: Excellent, very good fresh fish, make sure you ask them which fish are locally caught.

Madame Janette: Amazing, very romantic setting and great food, pretty reasonable prices, I had surf and turf for $30.

The Flying Fishbone: With out a doubt the best experience for a meal. We got to the restaurant at 5pm, watched the sunset from our table in the sand and didnt leave for 3 hours. The food was fantastic and the view amazing. This place is a must, everyone there was happy and enjoying the sunset and great food. One note: this is not somewhere I would take children, more of a romantic place for couples. Also long cab ride, but well worth it!

Ruinas del Mar: at the Hyatt, food was great and setting beautiful.

El Gaucho: Alright, this place is a fan favorite and our meal was very good, steaks were good and cooked perfectly. But we did not see what the big deal was. You could find a place like this in any U.S city. Plus the setting wasnt that great, not outside seating and in Aruba you want to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Still fun though, and the prices were very reasonable.

Dinners ranged from $120-$150. Which includes bottle of wine, appetizer, 2 entrees, and desert.

Aruba is an amazing island and we had a great time. We cant wait to go back and will definitely stay at the Hyatt. I give it two thumbs up.

There are actually two sides to this review. The wife and husband versions.
According to me... The Hyatt is gorgeous. It has beautiful landscaped grounds, fantastic kid friendly pool with waterslide, tropical birds, lizards and iguanas rooming freely, cozy beds and fabulous portico bath products. The beach is amazing. There are more than enough options of activities/water sports to keep you entertained . The weather is unbelievable...with constant cooling breezes. There are many restaurants within walking distance and a mini market close by to stock the fridge in your room. We brought a cooler on the beach with drinks and snacks.
According to my husband...the most stressful vacation of his life, starting with a two hour check in process. The room we reserved was not available. The hotel was "overbooked". Our keycards for our romm/elevator worked inconsistently and needed to be reswiped often at the front desk. The business center was useless. It had regular hours of 9am to 5pm, but did not have the internet access cards needed. The rental car process, booked throught the concierge was a nightmare. It's strongly recommended to book online before you travel or you will not get a car. And finally, the beach palapa and pool chair reservation process is beyond ridiculous. No joke, my husband was 5th in line one morning at 4:30am. He was never in line later than 6:30am. He swears people would come out of the casino at closing (4am) and go right to the line. He was exhausted to say the least.
As far as helpful hints...bring a cooler and go to the minimart across from Holiday Inn. Request a free fridge for your room. There is a Subway sandwich store right next door for cheap on the go "picnic" lunches. There is also a Dunkin Donuts on the beach path for breakfast/coffee. Sunblock is a must, pack more than you think you'll need. You have to apply 2-3 times a day. Bring hats and sunglasses for everyone in your family. Bring googles for kids, the Caribbean Sea is very salty. Make car reservations before you travel to Aruba. Check your international cell phone plan before you leave. There are many places to purchase international calling cards in Aruba and many international "pay phones" around.

Despite a lovely property we have had some major issues with this hotel. Partly it is due to the fact that I have been sitting/standing around since 6am waiting to get one of the remaining chairs under an umbrella by the pool for the day - yes, there are about 30 people in front of me so I hope you are an early riser if you come to this hotel at a busy time like Presidents week. A few days before the onslaught you could get in line at 6:30 and have 30 people in front of you. To get a front row beach hut you have to get here at 5:30 or earlier I hear.

At check in despite the fact I had requested island/ocean view which on the website says it is on an upper floor for good views, I got a room on the 3rd floor (not exactly an upper floor of 8) and was looking at a palm tree. Between this and requesting a rollaway bed that they didn't have anymore despite the option, check in was disappointing. But after much discussion with the front desk the manager was able to upgrade us to a better view.

The hotel itself is very nice, a good variety of restaurants and a relaxing pool area with a fun waterslide and swim up bar. Kid friendly menus at all places. The beach has lots of watersports if you want as well, although its very crowded. Rooms are comfortable and remodeled with new bathrooms. If you are a quiet sleeper though beware during high vacation weeks the hallways can be quite noisy with kids running around. A great place if you can come off peak weeks.

We just returned from 6 nights at the Hyatt Aruba (Feb 3-9) and we found the hotel to be wonderful. I strongly encourage you to stay here! My husband and I traveled with our two small children aged 2 and 4 and this was our first visit to Aruba. Prior to the Hyatt we stayed 3 nights at the Radisson. We split our stay between the two hotels because we had points for both chains and in part because of the mixed reviews we saw on both hotels here on Tripadvisor. We liked the Hyatt much better but if you are interested in my perspective on the Radisson please look for my comments there as well.

All in all the Hyatt is a superb resort. I've traveled a fair amount with and without my children and I almost always read trip advisor before I go. Time and again I am amazed at the reviews that people write and the ridiculous things they note. Some people will find something to complain about. What you should keep in mind is that the Hyatt as is all of Aruba is very expensive. A Corona on the beach is going to cost you $8. You can either whine about it or go to the minimart, get a fridge, stock it with some beverages to offset those costs and get on with enjoying your vacation!!! The while the rooms at the Hyatt are also expensive don't expect every single thing to be absolutely perfect. It is the Caribbean - things take longer to fix and maintain. Light bulbs wear out, elevators break etc...! Get on with your vacation and if something is truly a problem let the staff know and they will get it fixed.

The hotel was recently renovated and the rooms, public spaces and lobby are all beautiful. The staff and management team (especially Ady) are amazing. Service is fast (by island standards) and attentive and everyone goes above and beyond to be helpful and courteous. We were there for the Superbowl and the end of Carnival so the hotel was completely sold out for the first half of our trip but the staff managed it all without a hitch and service remained consistent throughout our stay!

The pool is beautiful and the way it is designed allows for lots of different guests to be very comfortable. There is a great kiddie pool, a swim up bar, the water slide, hot tubs, volleyball area, steps for lounging on etc...

The grounds are very lush and well maintained and they have fish, black swans and exotic birds spread throughout. The gardeners and animal caretakers were out everday taking care of the property and birds and everything looks great as a result.

The beach is fabulous but be aware that without shade you do not want to be on the beach for very long. The Hyatt manages the distribution of Palapas via a "lineup" at the towel hut that starts areound 6 am. I went down each day at 6:45 and still got a second or third row palapa. The way it works is as follows: you arrive at the towel hut prior to 7 and the attendant shows you the map of available palapas and you pick the one you want, at 7 am she starts calling you in the order you arrived and gives you your towels which you then carry to your palapa. The chair guys will then come over and ask you how many chairs you need and you slip him a few bucks to set up the chairs and towels under your palapa. Then you can leave and return at a more reasonable time to enjoy the beach. (Note: if you pick a palapa and then leave before they hand out the towels at 7 am you will lose your spot. ) It is crazy and it really sucks to get up that early on vacation but it is the guests themselves that created the situation and the Hyatt is just trying to keep things fair and orderly and it seems to work out fine.

I'll try and post some pictures if I can as they really tell you all you need to know -- the place is beautiful and well worth the price. Give it a try!
