“Came to Relax”
Reviewed August 25, 2011

Great Resort....First trip to Aruba won't be our last. Very fun resort, awesome location and the grounds are very well taken care of. A little something for everyone. Prior to leaving for our trip we were a little concerned based on the reviews about reserving the beach huts. Yes, it is a little tricky figuring out how to secure a hut, but well worth getting up at 5am waiting in line (actually sitting in a beach chair drinking coffee) meeting many fun people there for a great time. Once the hut was reserved, relaxing watching the birds, boats, people, catnap before all the vacationers came was what we were there for. To RELAX....Staff was wonderful from beginning to the end of our vacation.

This was an all inclusive trip we won through my husbands employer. We had an amazing time at the Hyatt Regency. White glove service all around. The Sunday brunch is to die for. We didn't venture out much because everything we needed was right outside out room door. I would love to return to this hotel.....without the kids this time.

If you are a couple with one bed, skip this part and skim down to the resturant recommendations. If you already booked your room also skip this part because you'll have a lovely time regardless. However, if you a family of 4 still looking, the rooms are small and do not have a balcony. I never had a room without a balcony and I never realized how necessary it is with 4 people in a room. A balcony offers you a place to go when everyone is getting ready for dinner, when everyone wakes up at different times and a happy hour option. For this reason only, I would not go back to the Hyatt. Lovely grounds, great service, waterslide and location, just no balcony and the room is small. I even took a walk to the Westin and asked to see their rooms which was considerably bigger and had a balcony. The ultimate tradeoff is a larger room with a balcony or the waterslide. On to resturant recommendations, Texas de Brazil was our first choice. Sign up to the fan club over the internet and get 25%(?) off your meal. You'll need it because this was the most expensive meal in an island known for expensive meals. I would also recommend Papamiento, Madam Jenette and Sole Luna. The last one is an Italian place which I was skeptical since I grew up in the Northeast. Great Italian food on par with top Italian resturants around here. Go there. I heard Wacky Wahoos is good but they were closed for vacation when we were there. Do not go to Papillion or any other hotel in walking distance of the Hyatt, you'll likely be disappointed.
Salt and Pepper for breakfast is a fun option. Try the Dutch pancake syrup (Stroop?). Finally, we used the Jolly Pirates for our sunset and snorkel cruises and had a blast. An earlier post commented on how cruises from Red Sail look less fun. I have to say he's right. Both cruises had a fun group who was trying to drink there weight in rum. One tip, if you want to put the whole trip on your credit card, skip the guys in the tents on the beach. They ask you for $100 cash and the balance to pay at the cruise. They are just agents for the cruise trying to get a commission. Instead walk to the Jolly Pirate hut which is a short 5 min walk located next to the Marriott.

Beware! After staying a few nights at the hotel I noticed I had a lot of bites that occurred in lines and clusters. Fearing that they were bed bug bites we looked under the bed and saw a few very small brown bugs scurry under the bed. I was absolutely disgusted! We immediately contacted hotel management. The manager was not accommodating at all. He told us that the hotel does not have bed bugs and that my bites must be from the “sun or something.” We were also told that we must have seen a mosquito or something when looking under the bed.
After insisting that I would not stay in that room another night, the manager had his “specialists” check the room (this was at 11:00 PM). After five minutes he told us our room was fine to return to. Long story short...we had to almost beg to get our room changed and our clothes washed. We hoped that the daytime manager would be more accommodating but she also insisted that they “don’t have those problems”. I understand that hotels have these problems sometimes and don’t want publicize it. However, they should be able to identify the problem, resolve the problem and execute more customer service when issues such as this arise. Plus, it’s disgusting!
Unfortunately, this ruined the vacation for us.

I would like to thank you at the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino.

I noted your comments about the bed bugs. As discussed during your stay, the room was checked by a member of our housekeeping team. There was no evidence of bed bugs. The room was checked by our pest control company and they confirmed that the room did not have bed bugs.

I apologize that the this issue was not handled in a manner that was satisfactory to you. Thank you for staying with us. I hope we will have the opportunity to have you as a guest in the future.

This was our first trip to Aruba and we fell in love with this amazing island. We picked the Hyatt because of its wonderful reviews and it definitely lived up to all of them. We walked around to other hotels in the area and the Hyatt is by far the nicest of all. There were no other hotels that compared. The grounds are immaculate. The lobby was big and airy. The pool was always clean and our kids loved the water slide. I read many reviews that said people had problems reserving a palapa. I made sure to email Benji at the hotel and reserved our palapa 2 months in advance. When we got there we had one of the best ones right in front already reserved for the week. The guys make sure to bring you extra towels and set up all the chairs for you on the beach. They all work very hard to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We rented a jeep one day (I would advise to rent a car instead as the jeep was $120 per day and a car is much, much cheaper). We drove to Baby Beach and had the most incredible time there! I would definitely advise you to take a day and go there. The snorkeling was incredible! Aruba is not a cheap island. You will pay a lot to eat. There are great restaurants all over but they are expensive so be prepared to spend money. So to make the best out of your stay, here are some tips: Bring extra sunscreen. If you need to buy some on the island you will pay $22 a bottle! Bring walkie talkies so you can communicate with each other. These helped out so much. There is no free internet or wifi even in the lobby (this was the only down part of the resort) Really? in this day and age of technology?? Ask the hotel to install a small fridge in the room. Email Benji at the Hyatt to reserve your palapas well ahead of time to avoid any hassle when you get there. Go to Baby Beach for snorkeling! you will not regret it! Be prepared to spend $$ - best of all have a good time! We LOVE Aruba!!!!

We were originally scheduled to stay in a top-rated boutique hotel on Eagle Beach, but we were concerned that our kids would be bored, so we changed ti the Hyatt. I am glad we did, there were plenty of activities on the beach within walking distance, shops and reasonable places for breakfast or lunch. The Hyatt staff was helpful and the property was very well maintained. Other than the need to reserve palapas and beach chairs at 6:30am, our experiences were all positive and the concierge staff was great. We would stay at the Hyatt again.

Just got back from a six night stay at the Hyatt Regency Aruba. The property is beautiful with lots of lush gardens and a prime location on Palm Beach. The beach is perfect for swimming, lounging in the water, and just beatubg thea heat. The hotel has some great on site dining options, a David Yurman mini - boutique in the lobby, and just beautiful grounds overall. The property did a beautiful job with their recent renovations. I heard from many other travelers that it is the nicest property in Aruba. From what I experienced and saw, this is defintely true. All of the staff that I encountered seemed to be very friendly. I only met maybe two staffers that werent smiling.

Some things to note, getting a palapa on the beach or an umbrella for the pool is almost near impossible unless you are on the beach by 6:00am. If you need a break from the sun be sure to get there early!! The rooms are a bit small, if you have a child and need a crib etc. It's going to be a tight squeeze. Also, the spa is almost non-existant. It's about 4 treatment rooms. However, they are in the process of starting a renovation and are going to be increasing the size of it dramatically. But, working on island time...who knows when it will be actually completed. One other thing to note, the noise in the hallways does get pretty loud. People coming back up from the casino every night tend to be a little rowdy and tipsy. The hotel even puts signs in the hallways asking guests to be quiet. Not sure how else better the hotel can handle the situation, but just be aware the problem does exist.
