“Beautiful location, spectacular beaches--would love to improve the palapa situation.”
Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

This is my second stay at the Marriott, albeit 11 years apart. It is a gorgeous place, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I would HIGHLY recommend renting a car for $200 a week and going up the road to the grocery for breakfast and lunch foods, and remember the fridge is a bit small. We took a collapsible cooler to the beach for drinks and snacks. We ate dinner at La Vista on the property for a night when the kids ate free; it was a decent buffet. It is your typical Marriott. The palapas (beach huts) are a pain--if you aren't in line right at 4:00, you won't get one...and even then, it may be far back from the ocean. All in all, I still love the Marriott. Pay extra and get oceanfront.

Aruba is AMAZING! Beautiful weather, great food and the friendliest people on earth. We toured the Island, but we mainly stayed at the resort for 10 days and hung around the pool bar. My wife and I met one of the most amazing servers there her name was Jasmine, she truly enjoys her job and takes care of the guests as though you were staying at a ten star resort. Aruba has great restaurants as well we dinned at Gianni's several times during our stay. We ended up going back three times, our server Mauro Alvarez, great person, another individual who has passion for his job and makes sure that everything from your glass of water to your meal was to your liking. We are already planning our return trip!

Stayed here for a week and was fabulous. Aruba itself was a lovely island. Multicultural, fairly prosperous, dutch influence, gorgeous tradewinds that blew all day and night, friendly people, relaxed attitudes.

Pros: Property is at the end of the high rise district and therefore at the end of the beach ( eagle beach) as well. The part of the beach is the best because you get no crowds on one side of the property at all. No clutter of all the sea sports and even the crowds are thinner. Plus, if you walked just a couple of minutes you will be in very secluded parts where its very very serene and full of corals, seashells and fish in the mornings.

property itself was fabulous. It appeared like all rooms had some view of the ocean. we stayed in an ocean facing room that put us in direct path to the coconut trees and the sea. lobby was great, if a little dark. it had a nice cafe and another bar. evenings saw performances from local artists. families gathered around the many sofas and tvs and lingered. it had a nice vibe, to it.

pool: pool and bar was satisfactory. they have one just for adults. bar drinks lacked punch, but was tasty. There are three other pools I noticed at the sister ocean and surf clubs. Not sure if we are allowed to use it.

rooms: large, with walk in closet. bathroom was well designed with lots of room. beds were comfortable. well appointed. and we were very comfortable in it and we travelled with two kids - 11 and 15.

food was reasonably priced considering that everything in aruba is a bit overpriced.

cons: the whole system of reserving the free huts can be made better and detracted from the hotel receiving 5 star ratings. There has to be a better way. Plus, maybe the huts should be only reservable for 3 hours, so more people can use it.

pool: was only ho hum considering the size of the property.

coupons for towels: they had a system of towel cards that also took away from the exclusive feel.

overall, stunning property and great experience. Stay here if you like to be pampered and want a resort vacation!

Room Tip: find a room that is fourth floor or above. if ocean view room, choose north side of the property.

This hotel is great! The beach is the best I've been to. Aruba itself is like no other! Clean, safe, no humidity , ocean is warm and clear like bath water. And best thing is our US summer vacation season is their off season? , yes please. The dinner buffet at Vista is awesome. Lobster night is the best! Fish tacos for lunch everyday from Simply Fish. People here are the nicest, staff and general locals when shopping. Yes it's expensive but it's a small island, everything is imported , even a can of coke , it's just how life is.

Walked to the shopping plaza in front of Holiday InN and had fresh crepes everyday for $4
If you have little ones, a trip to the butterfly farm is a must. Enjoyed the Discovery submarine ride with my 4 year old. Didn't get sea sick like I did twice in Mexico...

We stayed at the renaissance for 1 night due to flight issues. It's not on the beach however they have a private island called Flamingo Island. We regret not being able to visit as our flight was very early the next day but my friend has been there and it's like a postcard... The island , not the Hotel!
Renaissance is 3 star at best. If you come visit , spend the extra money and stay at the Marriott

Until we meet agin Aruba.

My husband, three children (ages 23, 20 and 16) and I stayed here in two connecting rooms with a partial Ocean view from July 18th through July 23rd. When we travel, we prefer to stay in a Marriott whenever possible and this one did not disappoint! The staff was attentive, the rooms were clean, the amenities were top notch and the location was perfect! The one and only complaint I have is that since there is a casino on site that allows smoking, you could smell it every time you walked out of your room or into the lobby. Other than that, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Aruba. A special "thank you" to Jason who went out of his way to find us a ball so we could have a family night pool volleyball game!

My family of four traveled to the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino from July 13th to the 20th. My husband and I are in our early 50’s along with our two adult children (23 and 21). It was our 3rd time to Aruba and 2nd time staying at this resort.

We reserved 2 rooms with the “construction adjacent view”. We were not discouraged nor disappointed when we arrived as the rooms faced the construction of a Ritz-Carlton Hotel next to the Marriott. We had a great view of the ocean and the workers were relatively quiet. I had coffee in the morning and wine in the evening on the balcony and the construction area noise did not ruin anything for us.
In need of two queen beds, our son & daughter initially had Room 746 which happens to be directly below the Tradewinds Lounge (8th floor). Unless you are an “early riser”, I would not recommend this room. They complained of the noise from sliding of chairs on the ceramic tile and foot traffic in the Lounge beginning quite early in the morning. They actually wondered if a herd of goats lived up there it was so loud. We placed a request to the front desk after the first day and they graciously moved them to another dual queen bed room. (Note-to-self...avoid room 746).

As others recommended, we bought some beer, rum, and vodka at the Super Food grocery store (fantastic place, BTW...). Planning in advance, we brought soft-sided small coolers to carry a few drinks to the beach. This helped keep our expenses under better control. The pool and beach staff were very proactive in telling you when the discount drink hours were. The best deal we found is from 12-1 pm at the beach bar drinks are 2 for 1. We usually would all four get 2 drinks each. “Nilo” was an attentive waiter and quickly learned we like that special. He made sure we didn't miss it.

Briefly, I will address the beach “palapa” issue. Listen people, stop the complaining. You are on vacation. Just add in a few more bucks and rent the palalpa!! If you schedule your first 3 days ($60) at the towel hut the minute you arrive, you have the assurance it’s yours. Then, on day 3 of your vacation, at your leisure, schedule the next 3 days. We had a day with no palapa and quickly found one abandoned around 2pm. No cost at all. Calibrate your expectations and it really will all be okay.

We also would like to give a huge SHOUT OUT to two of the bar / restaurant staff respectively. On Wednesday of our vacation, we went out on a UTV tour (see below). When we returned we were “starving” but wanted to relax in the pool. It was past the serving hours for food at the pool but “Hildomar” was still cleaning the poolside bar area. He overheard us saying we were starved and said he could get us food from, “La Vista” at the hotel. My husband wanted sushi from the lobby cafe. Even though the sushi bar advertised only eat-in or carry-out service, Hildomar made it happen! We ordered from both restaurants and it was efficiently delivered poolside. For us, it’s things like that that deserve major kudos. A shout out also to Rhyan from La VIsta who delivered the food and supported Hildomar’s efforts. It was so great to eat & float in relaxation to end our favorite day. Thanks to both of them!!

We had daily interaction with BiBi at the lobby cafe for morning bagels & coffee. She has a beautiful countenance and knew our coffee order starting on day two. In business, when you think of someone being, “the-ideal-face-to-the-customer”...BiBi is exemplary.

We would recommend the DePalm UTV tour. Unanimously, it was the best day of our trip. The cost may seem steep ($169) per UTV but we loved the island views and the guide we had. You can schedule it in the lobby at the Marriott. My husband and I had seen the island in a previous visit by renting a jeep for a self-guided tour. Doing the UTV tour brought back the stunningly beautiful sights that are almost beyond description. An absolute must...take sunglasses and a camera!! If you forget one thing, don’t forget the sunglasses. The remote roads are very, very dusty. Combined with the constant breeze and driving > 30 mph, your eyes cannot withstand it without protection. Don’t forget your camera, but really DON’T forget your sunglasses!

At the request of our kids, we booked the Kukoo Kunuku Party bus with the beach activities booth. (Marriott does not book these party buses within the hotel. It became obviously apparent “why not” after we went!) The first hour of this bus excursion was super. It picks you up at the hotel and take you to the end of the island for sunset. They pass out champagne glasses and fill them up as you watch the sun set. It was just fantastic. You then go to a private restaurant where you are served open bar and a pre-planned dinner (no ordering you get what you get). It was delicious. The restaurant is candle lit with a pool and beautiful. Very very clean. Then the “party begins”!
We traveled to 3 bars where the music selections for dancing was exclusively “dance clubin” music including RAP. That is where we quickly realized we were too old to be there. Our kids loved it. (Did we do that to our parents? LOL). Party on.
I have to say that it was too long. Even the kids said they were done after bar #2. Spending long days in the sun and partying until 1am is not for the faint of heart. Although I believe my kids would do it again, my husband and I would not. In fairness, “Tony” seems is the lead party-guy although he presents himself as just a tourist like you and me. He IS the source of the fun. Ride the bus and you’ll see.
We’d love something like that with Today’s Country music instead of club & rap music. (Can you do that, Tony?)
We attached pictures of the bus and champagne.

We have traveled to many of the Caribbean beaches over 25 years. Aruba is our favorite. One seemingly small thing but is huge to us are the absence of pesky beach vendors. We want left alone on our vacation. Other islands have significant solicitations, some near-continuous. Aruba’s economy and culture obviously contribute to their reputation as, The Happy Island!.

Room Tip: In need of two queen beds, our son & daughter initially had Room 746 which happens to be directl...
