Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 23, 2011

The whole stay was wonderful, well than again it is Aruba and the Marriot Surf Club is excellent. The staff is wonderful. How can you beat it, whether walking along the beach, relaxing in a chair or floating along in the lazy river, it is just what one needs.

While there we ate at LaVista Restaurant in the Marriot a few times, the food is always outstanding and the waiter, Keith is the best. He makes you want to go back every night. In fact he talked us in to coming back for our last night and we were there the night before. And as always the meal was outstanding and he made us feel right at home. Although they specialize in Italian, the menu and buffet has a little of everything.

I would rate this restaurant as good if not better than any we have eaten at on the island in the 15+ years we have been going to Aruba.

I would highly recommend the LaVista at the Marriot and ask for Keith, he will make it even that more special.

Just back from Aruban. It has been 2 years since we stayed, and had no idea that the hotel had gone through a huge reburbishment program. Our room was state of the art with new bathroom and bed etc. The restaurants had changed as well, and there is now a Ruth Chris steak house there. We ate the final night and food was amazing. Overall, what struck me was how friendly the staff were. Everyone from maid, to front desk greeted you with a smile and wanted to help. We were impressed and will be back next year. Oh... the beach, still amazing!!

I went to aruba this past september and the weather wasn't really the best but the island was great. The person that made the whole trip was the bartender Brian Salie. He always had such a great attitude always laughing made you forget about the weather. I've been to aruba before and Brian always remembers who i am and its great. Its that relationsip that keeps me and my wife going back. It almost makes you feel like it's a home away from home, like going to a local place making you feel really comfortable. Thanks Brian for always making it a great experience. Greg-NY

If I wanted guaranteed weather, I would return. Otherwise I would go for an island closer to the US with some beauty, some culture and stay at a luxury resort. Yes, we expected more, hoped it would at least rival the Marriott on Marco Island in Florida. Sunsets were just okay. It felt like a middle of the road resort and although the employees were wonderful, it was missing that something special. If you go I would highly recommend the Tradewinds floor (8th fl) and the food program. The rooms are the same but there is an extra level of security and the views are better. The Tradewinds lounge ($75 per person/day extra, also on the 8th floor) served wonderful appetizers and foods in just the right combinations. The food was healthy, fresh and I would guess on the low side of calories. Drinks were included and it was nice to pop in there for water and coffee throughout the day. We stayed 7 days and maybe should have done the food program 3-4 days to have more opportunity to get out to some of the great restaurants. We did eat at the hotel beach Simply Fish restuarant. The meal was good, the ambiance was wonderful and the bill was over $200.00 for 3 of us and included a couple glasses of wine. Our son 16, was a good sport but pretty much bored with all our pool sitting. The pool area was a bit disturbing with all the spilled drinks throughout the day and increasingly soiled chair cushions as the days went by. That was pretty much my worst complaint and not something that should not occur anywhere, yes we did report that. Aruba definitely has the best people living and working there that we have ever met. They are so pleasant and helpful.

Room Tip: Pay extra dollars to stay on the Tradewinds floor

Let me start by saying I have been very lucky to be able to stay/go to some truly incredible resorts (mostly through work, never on my own dime). From the reviews of this hotel, I was expecting truly breathtaking experience and while not exactly that...it is a lovely hotel.

We used Marriott points and then upgraded our room to the TradeWinds floor. This is basically your concierge level experience. The rooms were lovely but probably just as lovely on other floors. The only upside was the actual lounge which provided the guest with full breakfast (ample and delicious), lunch (which we NEVER used due to being on the beach and wanting to experience new things) and a cocktail hour with appetizers. Those were great but if going to dinner immediately after, you don't have room for your actual dinner....that is not a bad thing! Bottom line, we really never used it to its max advantage, our fault...but if you are paying full price for this floor, make sure you use every last drop of it! Then it would be totally totally worth it. Decor could use updating...rather old-ish (could just be my taste).

Tradewinds beach was just a little further past the regular guest's beach and very peaceful and beautiful. Their service of us was excellent...but you are pretty far from the beach bar if wanting to sip some rum while enjoying the sun...my recommendation...get two and a cup of extra ice!

Loved the seafood restaurant at the hotel...you are basically sitting on the beach with your feet in the sand enjoying delicious seafood. That was a total romantic experience...loved it.

We decided to go to Aruba for a most relaxing vacation & couldn't find a better place to do that in than the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino tho we didn't use the casino because of the smoking allowed. There is no smoking allowed anywhere else in the hotel which was great. We took the advice of others on Trip Advisor & upgraded to the Tradwinds floor & this definitely was well worth it. The food was so good & the choices plentiful that we didn't feel the need to leave the hotel premises for any of our meals. Breakfast everyday consisted of many choices including a different type of eggs benedict every morning & omelets to order. Lunch was soup, 3 types of sandwiches, salads & desserts. I think I had sashimi & california rolls every evening as a starter then onto the other choices which sometimes were sea bass in lobster sauce, mahi mahi in chimichurri sauce, coconut shrimp, quinoa salad, seared tuna, string bean & potato salad. A full bar including champagne & several desserts complimented the evening. I love to eat, as you can probably tell so the Tradewinds lounge was definitely a plus. The biggest plus in the lounge was Margaret! She always had a smile on her face to greet us when we came into the lounge, made arrangements for our spa massages & car rental & had other suggestions for things to do on the island. We rented the car to go to Baby Beach at the other end of the island where there is a manmade reef & tourists as well as the locals go to snorkel. There is a delight in seeing a school of black & yellow fish swimming around you with transparent fish & fish of many colors swimming by. There are 2 places to get local food inexpensively there & many of the tour trips stop there for an hour dive as well if you are not inclined to drive. Just past Baby Beach there is a very unusual site, hundreds of stick crosses marking the burial of pets stretching along the seaside. Back to the hotel & the Tradewinds. There is a Tradewinds section of the beach for the Tradewinds guests & Herminia is the woman in the towel shack & the Queen of the beach. She will reserve a palapa for you, setup your beach chair with towels under the palapa & remind you when to go up for your meals. Her face is always beaming with a smile & you'll get a big hug from her on the day you go home. Margaret in the lounge & Herminia on the beach really made the vacation a wise choice for the Marriott, two treasures of Aruba! The hotel manager, Koen Hietbrink will also do whatever you need to have your stay a pleasant one!

This was our first trip to Aruba and we had a wonderful time at the Marriott. The staff was really great--from the personal note and mini floral arrangement from our housekeeper to the birthday cake sent up for my special day, they were very friendly and accommodating. It was clear that the Marriott customer service was trained at this resort. My only constructive comment is about the service at the beach palapa area. We often had to seek out a beach waiter to come and bring us lunch or a drink during happy hour--a small thing considering our overall experience but they may have missed out on a little revenue as we probably would have eaten and drank more if there was more staff. The beach area itself is wonderful--very active and everything you need right there from jet skis to parasailing and everything in between. I would definitely go back--from what I saw on the island this is the best hotel overall.
