“Not like it used to be:(”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

This was a nice place to have dinner close to the hotel, but is quite run down and just average quality of food. We had dinner with another couple we met and hoped it would be nice, the meat was average for a steakhouse, nothing to throw out but not to return to again. It was like a fancy 99 restaurant.

“Surprise”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

What a surprise! When our hotel's restaurant was full, we went next door the the French Stakehouse and had an excellent meal with excellent service. The steaks, not our usual choic on Aruba, were superb, as was the rest of the meal. The inside atmosphere was enhanced by an outstanding pianist, playing music of the 50's and 60's.

“Wonderful service, delicious food”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

I ate here last weekend with my husband and parents and was so pleased at the outstanding service and delicious food. The portion size was just right and the appetizers (escargot and salads) were fantastic.

“20 year Aruba Visitor”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

We've owned timeshare in Aruba for 20 years, and the French Steakhouse was one of our favorite restaurants, because of it's outstanding staff, but foremost excellent cuisine?????

This year was a disaster, as the menu changed drastically, and the cost to value of meal, was very disappointing. My wife ordered the Shrimp and Scallops, and when received with few shrimp and scallops, and very small amount of potato and vegetables, was tolerable, however, the scallops were not cooked, raw in the middle. I always loved the restaurant for the Churrasco Filet Mingnon, Argentine Beef, DELETED FROM MENU,,, and ordered the Filet Mignon Blackened. It was a 6oz steak at best, and prepared medium rare as requested, however, was full of fatty veins, and made it almost impossible to cut, let alone eat!!!!... I sent it back and the replacement was not much better. We were disappointed to say the least, and although the staff did their best to satisfy us, by offering a free desert etc... we just paid the bill of $105.00 which included one alcoholic drink each, and left, very disappointed. In the past we've had dinner their at least 3-4 times during our 4 week visit.... This time we went once, and will not return.... They've also changed their menu in the upper level restaurant, and also at the beach bar and grill, and have lowered their standards for meals as well. We know the staff very well, and they knew that the quality of food was poor, but couldn't say much.... We usually have lunch their as well several times during our visit, but this trip went twice and probably will never return in years to come.

It's too bad that the place has gone to hell as most good restaurants on the Island, and as they cater to families with few dollars, the service and quality will continue to become less, and less as we've experienced over the past 4 years.. The island has become Americanized, and fast food has become the norm... The ambiance of the Island is just about lost???????

The Chalet Suisse , Bucaneer, Janet's and a couple of other restaurant's continue to be our favorites, with ambiance and value.... The High Rise Hotel Restaurant's have also lost their value, with cheap food, and high prices and I would not recommend them either....

Of course, one couples opinion, and we are seriously considering selling our 8 weeks of timeshare, and moving on to more pleasant experiences.....

Thank you,
Ralph Henault
