“Great Local Food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2012

Our family had dinner last night at The Aruban Chef. The service and food was excellent. We had delicious polenta with melted gouda - delicious! We had 5 different entrees and enjoyed them all especially the chicken stew, grouper and liver! When we travel we like to eat local fresh food. This was the place!!!!

“Pleasant Surprise! Good Local Dishes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2011

Whenever we travel we always try to go to one place that serves local food frequented by the local population. In 2006 it was a restaurant that is no longer in business called Nos Cunucu which I loved. We found out it was closed so had to find a new place. How? Ask your cab driver. He recommended Tha Arubian Chef.
We were looking for some late lunch so we went hunting, It's a bit off the beaten path, but not difficult to find. We were greeted warmly by the server and seated immediately. Lots of good local arubian dishes on the menu. Waitress explained each dish expertly. Grouper. Curried goat, Fish cake, all served with plantains and polenta. Some Balashi beer, a lovely lunch reasonably priced.
The only criticism I have is they have that 15% service charge that many other places also have, as other reviewers have pointed out. Remember the service charge goes to the house, not the server.
The Arubian Chef, although out of the way, is friendly with delicious food, immaculately clean restaurant and very good friendly service. A good bang for your buck!
You must put things in perspective; a very good rating for this restaurant is not the same as a very good for Barefoot or Wacky Wahoo's. They are just not in the same league.

“not worth the cab fare”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2011

Our waiter looked at us as if we were speaking an alien language when we ordered. And the food was nothing spectacular. The bbq sauce tasted like it was A1 from a bottle; the grilled chicken and steak kebabs were under cooked; the brown spicey sauce on the kebabs had no flavor and tasted like it was from a bottle; the ribs were chewy- the exact opposite of fall of the bone. The best part of the meal was the pancake like bread and the 4 shrimp that came with the Sean & John Kebab platter. Don't waste your time or money going out to this place. They also use their dinner menu for lunch and somehow expect you to just know this so when you ask them what is on their 'loaded baked potato' don't be surprised if you get a snotty response back about how they don't have a loaded baked potato for lunch, only french fries or mashed potatoes... and somehow you were just supposed to know this...go figure....
