We chose the Tamarijn All Exclusive on the recommendation of my husband's barber who goes there every year. Previously, we had only gone to two Sandals all inclusives, the Bahamas and Jamaica. The price for the 5 nights we stayed was less expensive than Sandals so we thought we'd give it a try. At the airport, a designated bus takes you to the hotel. Have plenty of dollars for tips. On first arrival, we had to wait in a line at the front desk to check in and get our room. There is another desk you have to wait at for booking reservations at their restaurants and confirming the pick up time for your excursions. There were a few people ahead of me in line there, too. You can only book 2 days in advance for the restaurants. If you paid for an excursion like Jeep Adventure, you have to let them know at this desk and arrange for your pick up time. The rooms at the Tamarijn were not impressive but you could not beat the beach view. You will also see beautiful sunset there. We were on the second floor, room 1214 and our views were spectacular. The corner room next to us had a larger balcony but ours was fine. The first floor rooms have chairs and tables on their patios too, and you can walk out to the beach. Also you had first dibs on those thatch covered umbrellas with chairs as they are right outside your room. The food was OK. The Red Parrot is the best restaurant, so make sure to get reservations there. The food, service and view there is excellent. The Red Parrot is at the Divi but is a easy short walk over or you can take hotel's free shuttle which runs about every 15 minutes. The Palm Grill restaurant is a pretty unique experience and I would definitely reserve a dinner there. You cook the food right on the table. The inner circle on the table is a heated surface for cooking your meat and vegetables. There are 4 seats to a table and if you are only 2, you will be paired with another couple which is really great because it's a nice way to meet other guests. There are shops there and the shopkeepers are very friendly. You can bargain a little with some of them, but not at the store where they sell everything from souvenirs to candy bars. That is more like a convenience store and the souvenirs are more pricey. Take the bus to downtown for bargains. And bargains you will get from the locals. The bus stops right in front of the Tamarijn and it's $2.30 a person. It's a short bus ride to downtown. I hear the restaurants there are good however since we were paying for an all inclusive, we only ate at the hotel. A passenger van that seated about 8 people came as we were waiting for the bus, he offered us a ride for only $2 a person, so we took it. If you like something downtown, but you feel it's too expensive, don't be afraid to offer something less. We took the Natural Pool Jeep Adventure. I'm glad we did because we got to see the other side of the island, the North Coast which is far different from the south coast with calm beautiful beaches and white sand. It's a bump ride so if you have a back problem, don't do it. You have to walk down to the Natural Pool on a rocky trail. For an older person, it would be difficult if not impossible. The Natural Pool was smaller than I expected. We snorkeled in it but it was crowded and small. There were pretty fish in there, however. Don't bother bringing flippers on the Natural Pool Jeep Adventure if you have your own equipment. You will not use them in the natural pool. It's too small. Your equipment, if you have your own, is probably better than theirs if you have US Divers and not get your equipment at Walmart. On the Jeep Adventure, you will stop at the Natural Bridge which collapsed in 2005 but they still take you by there. There is a smaller natural bridge that is still intact. Nice views there. You will also go by the Alta Vista Chapel, a small church where services are still held on Wednesdays. You will get snacks like chips and soda on the Jeep Adventure but don't expect lunch. The entertainment at the Tamarijn was OK, not spectacular. We did like the synchronized swimming in the pool one night and the salsa lessons another night. The Tamarijn has no dance floor and they expect you to dance around the pool. If you want to dance, go to the entertainment at the Divi next door where they have a really nice pool area and separate dance floor. Don't rely on the wall screen display that shows the night's entertainment. It is frequently wrong. Also, don't count on the brochure in your welcome packet. At the front desk, they have a sheet for that day's entertainment. I would go by that. The bands playing at night are all island music. Some play a few American pop songs but some bands are really bad. The entertainment all stops at 11:00pm, so you will never be kept up at night by loud music. Having said all that, you cannot beat the beach. It's just gorgeous. White sand, turquoise water that is so clear you can see every hair on your toes, and warm and calm. I could float on it for hours. It wasn't crowded at all when we went. There may have been one or two other people in the water but they were far enough away so that we could freely swim and snorkel on the beach right in front of our room without being in anyone's way. There are interesting fish to see while snorkeling right on the beach in front of your room. The free watersports consist of kayaks, sunfish sailboats and paddle boards. When we were there, there wasn't enough wind for the sailboats. However we had fun kayaking. There is also a fitness center we used that is really good. There was good equipment in there but walking on the treadmills can get hot as at certain times, they are in the sun but you are looking right at the beach while on them. Nice view. There are children there, but there weren't many when we were there. I would suggest going there when the kids are in school if you don't want to compete with them in the pool. Parents don't like to leave them in the room at night so you may see some sleeping on lounge chairs by the pool. They weren't a problem for us the first week in September. There are two pool tables and a ping pong table that certainly was not new or well maintained. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there. Every staff member was friendly and our maid Millienne was the sweetest, most helpful person there. You cannot beat the beach. It was spectacular and long.

Room Tip: I would recommend rooms 1100 to 1300 to be close enough to everything including the walk over to the...

This is our second time at "the tam" so we know exactly what to expect, food is plentiful and nice ( not gourmet, but never stuck for something to eat) rooms fine but a little dated, the themed restaurants are excellent but you generally have to book 2 days in advance (although we ate at ginger several times without a reservation if you eat early) stunning location with a laid back atmosphere, visited the divi but find it a little pretentious, we much prefer the Tamarijn would definitely recommend this place if you want a stunning location. And relaxed/fun atmosphere

My wife and I took our first trip to Aruba on September 7, 2013 for a week long stay at the Tamarijn to celebrate our 35 anniversary. We booked this resort mainly due to the fact that all rooms were ocean front, a requirement for us. After booking the trip, we found out that good friends of ours have been going to the Tamarijn every year for 6 or 7 years.
From our arrival to our departure, the Tamarijn was everything we hoped it would be. We were provided a nice cold bottle of water upon arrival, check-in went smoothly and we were in our room a little after 3:00 PM. The room was spacious with a fabulous view.
We ate all of our meals at the resort, particularly liking the Palm Grill and the Red Parrott at the Divi next door. All the food was well prepared and the staff was very helpful and nice.
Drinks were plentiful and very tasty. The only minor inconvenience was that the Bunker Bar did not have Heineken on tap, so we had to walk down to one of the other bars for a beer now and then. The bartenders used name brand liquor and did not use it sparingly!
The hotel was very clean, and it was obvious that the resort is well maintained. They were doing some tile repairs, quick painting of ceilings, scrubbing of railings, and other small repairs to keep the resort looking fresh.
We will surely be returning to the Tamarijn sometime in the future.
John and Sue

My husband and I just returned from a 3 night stay at the Tamarijn to celebrate our first anniversary. We were very disappointed in the lack of customer service at the Tam. We arrived by a Depalms bus and we were not greeted when we exited the bus. We went to check in and were not told how to get to our room. After asking we were informed that a shuttle would arrive shortly to take us to our room. We carried our own luggage because there was no bellman around. The room was nothing special. It was clean but very small, the only plus side was the view of the beach. The towel hut and the bars are not conveniently located. There is no service on the beach you must walk to get your drinks and towels. And plan on getting up early if you want a hut on the beach. Even though there are signs not to reserve a hut if you have not put your stuff there by 7:30 am you will not get one. On our first night there we ate at the buffet restaurant Cucunu and we had almost finished our meal before we were approached by a waiter asking what we wanted to drink. That lack of customer service was consistent for the rest of our trip. The staff almost acted as if you were bothering them by asking them a question. The shows were just average. If you want a vacation where you plan on doing nothing but laying on the beach then this would be the place to stay. My husband and I had previously stayed at the Excellence resort in Cancun for our honeymoon and they set the bar high on what to expect for customer service.

We enjoyed our time at Tamirijn but the food was OK. Bar service was not convenient to every room at the resort and the hours were average. Do not expect top shelf liquors. Service was good, but much of the equipment was in need of repair, upgrade or replacment (the bicycles were ancient). Our room was directly on the beach which was nice but quite a distance from the resort facilities and restaurants. Shuttle service within the resort was slow and unreliable. After staying in the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (which was absolutely perfect in all respects) we would never stay here again. The price was about the same in the DR too...

Room Tip: One on the beach close to the restaurants/facilities unless you like to walk a lot.

Just wanted a vacation where we relaxed and did nothing. Perfect place for that.
We were not expecting a fancy place as we compared prices to other resorts on the Island and expected no more than what we got for our money.
Have read both good and bad reviews, so wasn't expecting a 5star experience.
The room was very basic with older looking furniture and basic bathroom. Bed was comfy and room was clean. The fridge in the room was empty and some bottle water would have been nice. Luckily the water from the tap is fine to drink.
The beach is lovely and plenty of lounge chairs available.
Plenty of places to eat which included the restaurants at the Divi-Divi. Staff was friendly and helpful and plenty to eat and drink.
Recommend and hope to return.

1st trip and from close friends telling us how awesome this place is from their many trips there, we just loved it!! To wake up each morning from your balcony to that ocean view and that short trip from your room to right on the beach/ocean!! Crystal clear tropical blue waters and warm windy breeze... memories for a life time! We were in the 2400 building so had a walk to the dining area, but we didn't mind it. Was a "very much needed " peaceful trip, loved the help and gabbing, entertainment, food and many walks on the beach and meeting people at the bar! The "Brown Lady" drinks were are favorite choice drink. Can't wait to go back again. Would tell anyone to go if all you want to do is "Beach It"!!!

Room Tip: If don't want to walk as far, maybe ask ahead for halfway point or closure to dining area?
