My family of 4 (kids 17 and 22) just returned from a 5-night stay at the Tamarijn, and thoroughly enjoyed it! We have been to Jamaica twice and Cancun once, and I think this has been our favorite so far. We have stayed at Beaches hotels before and they are top-notch, but we knew that this hotel would be a little older, smaller, etc, than those so we expected a little less. However, we were not disappointed at all! The rooms were small (we were in #1812), but we are hardly ever in our room when we go on vacation, so that really wasn't a problem. This is the best view yet we have had of the Sea. The beach was in perfect shape, very clean, and the view was breathtaking, with beautiful sunsets, turqoise, and very clear. We snorkeled around the beach for shells. We did a top floor with balcony, and I think we would do that again, just because your view is a little better, and we felt we had a little more privacy. The food was good in every restaurant we ate at. Our favorite was the Paparattzi for Italian. The food was wonderful and the wait staff was so much fun. We participated in all the activities like sand volleyball, poolside bingo, tiedie shirts, and watch all nightly shows. We did one snorkeling excursion on the catamaran that took us to 3 spots (one being the ship Antilles) with lunch on board. It was $78 per person. It was a great time and we saw the best snorkeling we have seen yet.We ventured into town ($9 taxi ride for 5), and went shopping with the locals. That is always an experience! :) They are willing to barter, always felt safe, and it was a clean environment. Great place for sourveniers. We went to the Divi resort next door that we had privileges at and used their pool and restaurants as well. That is a great way to get more for your money, to be able to visit two resorts. Everything was just great! From checking in to checking out it was a wondeful vacation. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we would return to it, and definitely return back to the island of Aruba. It is a beautiful place to visit!

Room Tip: Better view from balcony. Rooms 1100-1600 are the closest to the center of the resort, so if you lik...

One of the best places we have ever stayed. Rooms are comfortable and the patio door opens onto your own little porch area and the beach and ocean in front of you! Wonderful! Not very lively - there are a number of restaurants you can book into, and there is evening entertainment including karaoke, which is managed well, and not subject to the drunken lads on stage.
There is a shopping complex just down the road which provides all the bits and pieces you might need and browsing is fun, the locals are always chatty and willing to negotiate,
Our room was the furthest away from the bars, but a call to reception gets you a shuttle in minutes which ferries you there, or to the sister resort a little further along the beach.

Fabulous holiday, lovely people, as much food and alcohol as you want - a double? a triple Cointreau? Not a problem.

Total relaxation and one of the very few places we would revisit

Room Tip: Ground floor is immediately on the beach. Any rooms away from reception are quieter and easily acce...

This was a nice all inclusive for the money. Easy (close) town and airport access, clean rooms and the most beautiful and spacious beach in Aruba, by FAR.

The two downfalls, for me, are that there is NO NIGHTLIFE. you have to go off resort for anything. There is, however, a shuttle that brings you to the Alhambra Casino. Second, other than the buffet there are no restaurants that you don't need reservations for. I don't like to make future plans while on vacation.

Overall a solid stay for the money. The drinks are good, and the food at the buffet is better than I have experienced at other all inclusives. I also really like that they have floats available to guests for free (but make sure you return them by 5pm or there is a $10 charge).

Room Tip: if you are in buildings 20 or higher prepare for a walk to the main area. The beach in front of the...

This was our first time to Aruba and we were there to celebrate my fiance's 40th birthday. The Tamarijn ("Tam") was a short trip from the airport via taxi. The trip was a flat $22-it was nice to know what to expect. The taxi driver was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our check in was very fast. They originally gave us a room with 2 full-sized beds but easily changed us to a room with a king bed. We were in the 1900 block which was a good distance from the hustle and noise of the lobby and restaurants. We were nice and close to the bunker bar. The resort as a whole isn't very modern and definitely needs updating--just like other reviewers have said. It's not terrible but could use some work. The rooms were nicer--maybe they updated them recently? We were on the first floor so we could literally walk out of our room and onto the beach. The beach was NOT crowded at all! No need to wake up early and reserve chairs! There were parts of the beach that were rocky-thankfully not all of it though. We just walked a bit down the beach to find a spot that was less rocky. The drinks were made pretty quickly and they were much stronger than you'd expect from an all-inclusive place. They topped most drinks with even more rum! The food varied between places. We had breakfasts and lunches at the buffet at both the Tam and Divi. We felt the buffet at the Tam was better than the Divi. I agree with other reviewers that it would be nice if there were more options for lunch. The buffets had a good variety of food and it was tasty and warm. For dinners we went to the Red Parrot, Ginger, and Palm Grill. Our favorite by far was the Red Parrot. If it were up to me I would have eaten there every night! The food was so delicious and the service was amazing. The Palm Grill was fun (a hibachi style restaurant) and the food was pretty good. The location is good too-we were there while the evening entertainment was happening. It turned into dinner and a show. Ginger...I'd skip that if I were you! it was very very bland and just not that good. We didn't even bother with the Italian place.
It's nice that you can go to the Divi to hang out, drink, and eat. Their pool area is much nicer than the Tam. However, not all of their rooms are ocean front which is why I chose the Tam. The walk to the Divi isn't really that far at all. We walked to/from every time. They do have a shuttle that we saw buzzing back and forth.
The amenities aren't that great--but they do offer FREE snorkeling gear. That was a huge plus! We used their gear and drove to beaches around the island.
I do wish some of their areas were open later (the towel hut, the snorkel place etc.) They all close by 5pm--which stinks because sunset isn't until 7 or 7:30pm.
Also, it was my fiance's birthday and I told them we were going for a special occasion after I made the reservations and then again upon check-in...and they didn't do anything for us. Many places will leave something in the room...or some kind of nice gesture. I guess this is another thing that a 4 or 5 start resort would do. It just would have been a nice gesture.
The rooms were noisy--we could hear our neighbors--the whole conversation word for word. There were some mornings were the noise woke us up (conversations and slamming doors).
You really cannot beat the location! If you are a beach person this is the place for you! Every single room is ocean front and you are literally steps from the beach. I have never been that close to the water! It was an amazing site to wake up to each morning.

Fantastic holiday, superb beach, cannot believe that the food received negative reviews, in my opinion the food was exceptional. We ate at the Red Parrot - 8/10; Ginger 10/10; Paparazzi 10/10; Palm Grill 9/10; the buffet was beautiful - all food was so tasty; the pizzas at pizza tutti were lovely. We also went to Windows and paid a supplement of $35/head - superb. The beach was wonderful and never crowded like it was in the High Rise Section; buses are $2.30 and run every 10 minutes from outside the hotel - so easy - everyone was nice and helpful especially reception and the customer relations desk - they ordered us taxis; booked us meals at restaurants off-site - nothing was too much trouble. The town of Oranjestad was great - full of designer shops - completely safe and quite picturesque. Rooms were adequate, comfortable and clean. Went on a private boat/snorkelling trip with Rene - superb - he is on trip advisor; just give him a call and arrange to meet him at the Pelican Pier. We also went for a meal at the Flying Fishbone which was lovely with the most beautiful setting. Word of warning - drinks are very very strong - Brown Lady frozen cocktail - very nice. A sting ray came close to the shore and all the snorkelling enthusiasts were straight in the sea; we watched 84 turtles hatch and make there way to the sea; telephone calls from the room were cheaper than using mobile phones - SUPERB holiday - will definitely re-visit.

well what can i say - paradise! I loved the whole holiday/weddig, the beaches are amazing, the sea a few steps, such clear water. hotel staff ab fab! one happy island it is! as the island motto goes. hotel was brilliant, to really nitpick which i never do was plug sockets in rooms only two of and one worked, my fault for not reporting it. electric is low voltage so not powerful but did warm my straightners nicley! the weather sooo hot but soo windy which you need, but it isnt horrible wind, had to have hair put up for the wedding, but wouldnt have it any other way!the ladies in the hair salon have magic fingers to do what they did with my very short hair! so clever they did the bride bridemaid/mum and myself hair and makeup and was brilliant! again nit picking after talking with wedding party, the emails before and after and up to the holiday about wedding plans for the day were a bit loss of communcation! i think there might be a few follow ups on that score, but the wedding was pretty perfect despite teething probs. we had the sunset that only happens a few times a year at the wedding which was just as good as seing aurora thing!!! it was again amazing!! we saw turtles hatch on the beach near our room, block 12! which we couldnt have paid to see as we did, magical.staff were fab, polite happy and brilliant, only one bar tender around pool was a bit grumpy but could put up with that! the choices of food in the buffet grill were fantastic every kind of pallette was catered for, the restaraunts amazing! all in all i ould go back like a shot and stay again longer if i could!!! our group of 18 gelled so much, not a huge amount for children, but there is a kids activity centre, ours just wanted the sea and pool/pool tables and table tennis, they were fine with that! bussing to town oranjestead was so easy or taxis, $9 both ways was fair, $2.30 bus and was quite happy to give change! loved the bar senor frogs, even us old timers had a huge laugh in there, I know i have rambled but can't think fast enough waht to cover an amazing holiday all round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i did just think of another thing rooms didnt have the right sort of lighting, rubbush to do your hair makeup, not that i did too much of that, but very dark, still it didnt ruin things!

We just came back from Aruba and we had so much fun there. The resort itself is not the best one we have stayed at, and it is on the older side, but the beach is just beautiful. We stayed at the very end of the resort ( building 2400), and there were almost no people at the beach or in the water, it was like having a private long stretch of white powdery sand and turquoise water. Stunning view! Since we love the beach, we were swimming for hours and it was great fun. But it is probably the only beautiful thing about this place. The rest is only average. We expected it by reading the reviews, and I really wanted to visit Aruba since I have never been there before. Although we had fun, I will not be coming back to Aruba. There are trade winds daily, but on some days wind is really strong and the sand feels like needles sticking your body. It was difficult to even take a walk on those days. The pools are average, food is ok ( you will not be hungry), everything feels old and dingy. At the very end of the resort, where we stayed at, chairs and palapas were plentiful, no need to reserve. Water was cool, not extremely warm, like we are used to in Miami, but still very nice. There are lots of rocks on the bottom and I hurt my foot one day, but we found that at one spot across building 2300 there are absolutely no rocks, just nice soft sand. The restaurants that require reservations are nice, one piece of advise though( and we did not know that) for booking Red Parrot, if you want to sit outside request it specifically when making reservations. By judging from the other reviews I expect a lot of people will disagree with me, but despite the average resort the reason why I would not come back is Aruba itself. We went on a tour around the island, and to put it nicely it is not a beautiful place by any means. One time was great, but there are more beautiful places in the world that are worth visiting at least once. I am very happy I visited Aruba, but one time is plenty. I would be very happy to answer any questions anyone might have to help with the visit.
